The review is of my U-Haul experience, not necessarily the people who work at this location. First I reserved a truck at another location that had availability online. U-Haul changed locations on me when there actually was no availability (adding more mileage to the rental). When I showed for my rental, they told me that the rental time changed (I did not get any notification) as there was no truck available. The available truck ended up 3 hours late. I had no option, I needed a specific truck for 6 hours for that date (I lost time and money due to the delay). Then it became my problem with the store manager because they wouldn't have a truck for another customer later that day because of the 3 hour delay (either pay full price for the rental or don't rent - no compensation for time and money lost). U-Haul is in the service industry but they serve their own interests first. The correct solution should have been to get another truck to that location, but that comes out of their pocket. I probably won't rent another U-Haul, but I won't have high expectations or risk my time and money for another complete debacle (live and learn).Matthew A.

Improve scheduling service. I was called by uhaul and they said that my 20 foot truck was no longer available. The system for scheduling should be reconfigured so customers do not have changes to their reservations. Thankfully there was a 15 foot available but I was unable to move all of the stuff I had planned to.mira S.

The unit was great and clean, and the staff was helpful. The problem was access to the unit due to electrical issues and the door not opening. One of my Uhaul boxes was delivered to my driveway damaged. It was tilted, missing an entire footing, door open at bottom, clearly had been reinforced. The orange covering was caught under the center footing so unable to open. It took many phone calls to get someone to fix. Unacceptable. It was an absolute shitshow. Not only did I need to pick up a truck that was 45 minutes away from my house, but I also needed to deliver the truck to a location that was an hour south of where I was going, and I was not notified of this at any point. So I ended up adding almost 4 hours of travel time. When I tried to contact the scheduling department, I was hung up on twice.Joseph M.

One person taking care of customers on a busy weekend morning is just not sufficient. (Eventually, another employee showed up with the coffee and the situation improved, but not before I waited in line for 30 minutes.) I'm afraid the attention to detail was also not great, as I prepaid for a dozen moving blankets to be included in the vehicle. I should have checked before I left! (Fortunately, the folks at the State Street New Haven office were able to help me out, after I called the dispatcher.)Steve H.

Always check the actual gas Guage reading that it matches your contract, BEFORE driving the truck away from your rental location.BRENTON E.
the trucks don't start with a full tank of gas. this means the customer has to gas up before they start their move in a lot of cases AND gas up again at the end of the move. that messes with their schedule. in addition its easy to fill up a gas tank but its difficult to figure how much gas to pump to get a 7/16 of a tank full.Mike N.

I dropped off around 4:30 PM ET on 21 May and was told I would receive a receipt via email in about 20 minutes. It's 22 May around 11:00 Am and I still have not received an email receipt. I checked spam folders and I have been receiving all other emails from Uhaul. They may have just forgotten which is fine but I still need the receipt. I'll try calling the location.Charles B.

I pointed out that the trailer has a wiring problem and blew the fuse for running lights in my truck twice, in the end I trailered for 1300 miles with no running lights, when I returned it they just said they would note it, my guess it will go out that way, and fry someone's else's vehicle.Richard B.

Return video and follow up is silly. I attempted to log on but simply wanted to verify return not watch video of how to trailer after 3 days! I attempted to call and was told 30-40 minute wait. The trailer was back I wanted to be able to prove its condition via photo or video. Not wait close to an hour for an operator. Poor return policyAnndean K.

Garren Keith and other associates were always ready to help when we asked. It appeared that Covid-19 protocols were observed by all staff members each time we visited. We used our storage locker as a temporary holding spot during our move from former to new residences in Guilford. The range of supplies available at the store gave us what we needed to protect belongings during the move. We'd certainly use the Guilford facility again when and if we needed it. We're also glad that UHaul found a way to fully utilize the former automobile dealer facility, thereby avoiding further community and zoning controversy that erupted when initial plans for a multi-story building resulted in local neighborhood resistance. I Didn't answer question number 3 because the facility was under renovation-therefore much activity and noise- all for a good purpose. Overall a good experience with the manager being well informed and helpful. I certainly would recommend your facility to my friends. The one thing I was vexed about was having to provide a backup name that had a different address than mine. I was planning to use my wife as a backup person. I was told that wasn't possible because a couple had done that and they both died at the same time so there was no one to notify ,presumably when the monthly bill was not paid. It seems that the probability of simultaneous or near simultaneous deaths of a renter and his wife is quite low and therefore there shouldn't be that requirement of a different address.William J. | First Impressions
