I may have missed the documentation on how to get in and out, but I was able to figure out to disable the alarm and then check in to access the doorway. Check in/out signage is misleading as trying to check out just said welcome authorized to enter. Enabling the alarm stated something congrats, alarm set, your checked out. So I hope everything I did was ok. Overall great experience. Even reached the general manager by phone last night as the entrance door was started by an individual to be stuck open. I have two recommendations. First, if a customer has cash or a pre-paid debit card I think U-haul should be more upfront with the amount needed for a deposit. Secondly, I went to rent a trailer. It took over an hour to complete the contract and hookup. That seems excessive to me. There was no line, I got right up to the counter and literally stood there for almost an hour while the rep struggled on the computer. Lastly, I rented the 6x12 enclosed trailer. I hooked it up to my Ford Escape. I asked if the vehicle would be too underpowered for the trailer and was told it doesn't matter as long as I have a proper hitch, which I did. So I'm driving back with an empty trailer and started up a nice size hill. a message in my vehicle popped up and stated it was reducing power to avoid overheating. I really don't understand how this size of trailer was able to be hooked up to a car that is not able to handle the weight. The car is okay, but lesson learned.Nathaniel H.

It is bullshit that u haul just guesses at the mileage. I didn't go to any other places than the ones I reported when I rented the truck but I did take my own straighter safer route and got charged for the over mileage. For that reason I will consider other options the next time I need a truck. And I will tell others of my negative experience.Donald R.
Ray is the WORST general manager I have ever dealt with. He thinks he's God of uhaul. My car was broke into while I was there and the cameras were NOT working. Ray didn't see this as an issue because the police caught the guy the next day. He refused to accept my free month certificate stating they were full so at this time not taking them even though it was still posted in store. Then classrooms it was at his discretion. Also due to problem with my daughter who rented a unit there he restricted my access. I then cleaned out my unit and he refused to give me back my month and some of rent I was due. He claimed he didn't kick me out so therefore he didn't have to vibe me any money back. Yet my restricted access only allowed me into the unit for 30 minutes 2 times a day once I signed in. He kicked my daughter out have us limited time to get her stuff out of the unit and told me that I was on a do not rent to list due to my association with my daughter but still wouldn't refund my money for my. unitLynnette A. | Overall Experience

The guy that works at that location cancelled my U-Haul before I got there because I was a little late, he never called or anything to make sure I was still coming. The U-Haul truck itself was dirty in the back, and supposedly the check engine light was for an o2 sensor but it drove rough like something else was wrong, and the windshield wipers were worn to where it didn't really make a differenceLogan K.

Late by 4 days in picking up my loaded container. Then, crossed my order with someone else's. Claimed my u-box was not mine. Thought I would have to get police to show my pictures and inventory lists to prove container was mine, causing more days in storage for which I had to pay. Staff was hard to get on the phone to try to straighten out. Online account did not match company computer system. One day, I waited an hour and 20 minutes on hold. Never again. Was not happy I had to go to this location at all to pick up my Uhaul (40 minutes from where I live in Madison. Was even less happy I was only notified 30 minutes before my pickup time. My moving crew waited an hour and a half for me to return (an hour and a half I paid for). Also not happy I had to pay for all the extra gas this took and the fact that I still got charged for mileage, even though I didn't drive it beyond the exact distance we needed to goMitchel Z.

I only answer with average because I returned my vehicle after hours and tried to call in for help and was on the phone for 25 minutes and still nobody answers. Thankfully I was able to figure out the issue on my phone camera to be able to take a picture of the mileage. No idea how long I might've been on the phone waiting for somebody to answer if I didn't figure it out on my own. This has nothing to do with the location I rented from it's all about customer serviceTodd C.

Everything went smoothly for my rental. I was even notified that the piece of equipment that I was renting was in early and that I could pick it up before my contracted rental time. Upon picking up the equipment, I noticed it wasn't swept out. I took it the way it was. When I returned it, I cleaned it out. The staff at the Baraboo location was great - very easy to work with and would definitely look forward to working with the again! Unfortunately, Kayla in your contact center (scheduling) is a completely different story. I had originally reserved a truck in Madison (back in April) for a 36-hour rental. She called less than 3 days before the rental and informed that they were switching the rental to 6 hours maximum and provided NO REASONABLE ALTERNATIVES to me, given that I needed a truck for 36 hours. I subsequently cancelled and proceed to rebook a trailer with the Baraboo location. Kayla (again) contacted me less than 24 hours before the rental to inform that she was moving the pickup to Reedsburg (15 miles away) - for no particular reason. I went ahead and booked a 2nd reservation with the Baraboo location, called the local store and spoke with Ray to confirm it, and subsequently picked it up with no issues whatsoever. Completely unexplainable why Kayla continued to make this process so difficult. While on the phone with her, she was very unaccommodating and eventually hung up on me for no reason (said I was threatening a lawyer, when I was not - you can review the call recording to confirm). I would avoid Kayla at all costs in the future - VERY POOR CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT SKILLS - NOT A GOOD REPRESENTATIVE FOR U-HAUL!!Ross G.

The self storage was great and the Baraboo personnel were courteous, efficient and professional. Very clean site. The trailer self return process was horrible. I recommend posting the process at the site instead of just saying go to the website. We had an issue with the website and after a long wait time the first person answering couldn't assist and transferred us for another hour wait for a person that was NOT helpful either. We were changed from an in-town pick-up and drop off location to one 50 miles away. U-Haul only reduced the mileage cost by 30 cents. Due to the inconvenience of adding 2 hours of driving to our rental, good customer service would have offered to reduce the mileage cost to account for the unnecessary miles and given us extra time due to the drive. The location for pickup was fine. My only issue, obviously, is that I had to drive to Baraboo to get it when I reserved it for pickup in Madison. But I also understand it was probably the busiest moving weekend of the year because of the college students. I have rented from U-Haul numerous times over the years and I will add that overall, U-Haul does a very good job with rentals.Vincent F.

I spoke to a lady who returned my call and I told her we would beate to get the trailer,, she said that ok we have tons.. I said it would be closer to closing until we got it back and she stated that that would be ok as long as it's before 8pm there is no issue. We got the trailer picked up and a guy who said he was the manager said it has to be there by 730 or there is more fees,, we stated we were just told a little ago tht it has to be back by 8, he said he doesn't care what we were told he said 730 or it's late,, and rudely. Then there wasn't a 4 way flat plug on the truck we used and we were not aware of that, the guy said we have to have one and put a red adapter on there and said when we come back he will just return it since it's going to be so quick. We returned the unit at 729pm and there was a different guy there and he said he would not return the plug, we said the manager earlier said it was ok to and he said he doesn't return things like that so no, but then tried to change the subject by saying, oh nice truck. The guys were not nice and lied so us and I will definitely not suggest this place to anyone, and the bad thing is I do and have done tons of roadside repair for uhaul for my job!!Zachary D.

I only went to this location because my original reservation with the Madison west store was cancelled. I made the reservation months in advance and they called me 3 days before pickup to tell me that they had cancelled my reservation. Uhaul needs a different system where reservations actually mean something. I was satisfied with my experience at the Baraboo store, but THOROUGHLY disatisfied with my uhaul experience as a whole. We used it for only one month so not a lone enough time to give a fair critique........however, at the end the management made a near wrong RIGHT and that was kind of them......I am trusting that in the future, when in emergency situations like ours, that they will be MORE clear so that those NEAR ERRORS can be averted..........We only stored one bed for less than one month by a day and that is where the near problem came in......So, Ray, thank you for caring more for the customer AND THEIR situations and concerns than for the almighty dollar. Check the boxes before sending them out, Do upkeep on the boxes, get more drivers on staff, and keep your deadlines. Our pickups and drop off were delayed several times. Our entire move with U-Haul was an absolute joke and has changed my outlook on the company. Maybe it was just the Baraboo Wisconsin location, but I will never use U-Haul again and advise others who want to use Ubox to find a different company. We received a call confirming a pick up time on our requested pick up day. I called back and was on hold for 30 minutes before I had to hang up. Because I didn't confirm with a person, no one came and picked up our boxes on our requested pick up day. We were told someone would pick up the boxes the following day. When we were waiting for our rescheduled pick up the next day, the only driver available was sick so our boxes were going to be picked up the next day, the last day at our apartment. As we waited for U-Haul to pick up our boxes before we left town, U-Haul called to reschedule our pick up again. We had to extend our permit for the boxes twice and pray nothing would get broken into and that the boxes would actually get picked up on the third reschedule. We were told our boxes would arrive at our new home on July 16th. Around July 10th I received an email saying our boxes would arrive on the 20th. On July 19th I looked at U-Haul.com and my account said the boxes were in a completely different town and that our boxes weren't set to arrive to a U-Haul near me by the 24th. I confirmed the drop off address over the phone and online before our boxes before leaving our old home. After several phone calls and 2 drop off reschedules, our boxes arrived and we were given under 14 hours to unload our boxes before they were getting picked up again. One of our boxes had huge gaps between the floor, the back wall, and the right wall. When the boxes were dropped off there was no walk around or checking out the inside. We had to stuff the gaps and tape the walls to make sure the rain and moisture wouldn't come in from any water on the streets. The boxes were also infested with earwigs. We just unloaded our UBoxes and haven't found any in our stuff, but we did find some spiders. We had to make several calls to U-Haul and each call would average 40 minutes on hold before we could talk to someone about any of the problems we had on the Wisconsin end. I would sometimes get transferred to a different state and then get transferred back because my questions couldn't be answered.alayna L.

Everything was late. Delivery initially was two days late. Pick up to next location was late. Final destination delivery was over a week and a half late when I was moving across the country. I would never ever ever suggest uhaul to anybody. Moving is already stressful and uhaul made it a million times worse. Nothing was on time, I spent probably a total of 20 hours on hold trying to figure out where my box was and what was going on.Nicole F.

I rented my unit online. I went to the Uhaul office and picked up the lock and keys and access card. It was very easy. The building is very clean and easy to access.
