Unfortunately I had a bad experience at this location! TLDR; I gave 2 stars because the equipment I was given was horrible to drive in given the smell. The seat cover that was on the chair was ripped and gross. The chaos of the experience could have been alleviated with additional staff, or the lockbox system. The online check-in did not line up with the system behind the counter. I did not give 1 star because I appreciated the hard work of the staff that were present. I have previously rented U-Hauls using the online check-in/return system, where I have not needed to go to the front desk. At other locations, I would receive a code to a lockbox and get the corresponding key. Here I was required to go to the checkout desks, and the online check-in method did not match up with the physical system the cashiers were doing. There was a pretty long line and definitely not enough people staffed to keep it moving. When I tried to get my key, the cashier could not find the key for my equipment. I was then assigned a different truck but it was parked in and it did not match the truck I was supposed to check-in on my phone. Eventually I was given the truck I had original been assigned. When I got in it smelled like someone had previously threw up in it! I did not anticipate it would take so long (seriously 45min when it should have taken 10max) and I was running pretty late so I didn't bother asking for a different one. I also did not want to put any more stress onto the staff, who greatly needed more people on the team that day. I want to make clear that the staff who were there were working incredibly hard-- it was not a matter of them "needing to work harder." They were all doing the best they could given the circumstances.

More timing updates. Like an automated text saying when the job is starting and estimated timing. Then if it’s going to be late send an automated update. People have no clue how long this could take so they’re in limbo all day.

Staff was friendly but incompetent at their jobs. I waited an hour to access my UBox and leave the premises despite calling days in advance for notice. The staff could not find the box because it was not properly labeled in their system. Then that afternoon, dropping off my empty container, I was told by two separate employees I was good to go. Until the next week I saw that the box was listed in my possession. I then had to follow up over the course of multiple days to get this resolved. First they changed the status of the box to be in storage, and it took additional effort to ensure the account was closed. I dealt primarily with Wanda, who consistently made excuses instead of owning up to the fact the team was delivering sub-par service. Incredibly disappointing experience altogether. I will never be using this U-Haul location again, and frankly it has put me off using the company as a whole.

I've been renting Uhauls here for the better part of 2 years. As a freelance technical director, I require a rental at least twice a month, nearly every month. For the past two times, I have been given a vehicle that was parked behind other vehicles; the most recent being behind 2 vehicles. Instead of just giving me new keys to a new truck, I waited nearly 45 minutes for them to move two trucks. There seemed to be a huge lack of communication. One employee suggested I go in to get a different truck, while the employees inside recommended I wait for them to find the two keys and move the trucks. Extremely frustrating. I understand that the power was out at this location for my most recent rental, but I've never spent an hour at Uhaul before. Also, it often takes longer to go through the online process than it does in person. Please pay your employees more so it doesnt feel like they absolutely hate being there.

When I arrived for my mobile pick-up at 6:30am, the U-Haul app glitched while I was trying to locate my vehicle and acted as if I had already picked it up without completing any standard pick-up steps like and did not provide me with a vehicle number. As I no longer knew the number to my vehicle, I tried to contact customer service by call and live chat and received no assistance. I then waited at the location until its official opening at 7am for assistance from employees. They then informed me that the truck I originally reserved was blocked in by other trucks. So, even if I had located my truck, I would not be able to leave. They then switched my reserved vehicle to a new one that had only a 1/4 tank of gas. They did not show me to the vehicle, but pointed me in the general direction which was still hard to locate because all painted location indicators were almost entirely faded in the lot. They did not provide any general instruction or requirements for return, so I just guessed.

I would recommend this location to a friend because of the convenience of the location, not at all because the friendliness or competence of the staff, at some point someone took a call while helping me and never answered my question about an access code, I ended up asking a girl who didn’t even work at UHaul to help me with the access codes and she was friendlier than the staff you have at the front desk, your app also gave me a van that was already in use so I had to wait an extra ten minutes to have someone give me a van that was not in use and was not able to skip the line.

I'm not sure who was at fault, but initially it was noted that I was picking up the empty boxes, instead of having them delivered to my Chicago address. This caused an issue but was resolved as best it could have been by the local team. The phone number I was given to call for "scheduling" was basically useless, as I was regularly on hold for long periods of time. This was not acceptable. But when I could get through to the local office, they were great.

All employees need to be customer focused. I say in this location for approximately an hour and 30 mins which was unacceptable. I was there to pickup a double Ubox for a customer and I did not feel any sense of urgency to get the box delivered to the customer in a timely fashion. The customer was very upset. Me being a driver only to deliver the ubox to the customer, I was told by the manager to call the customer and tell him that his credit card had constantly declined. I did not feel that this was appropriate. The manager should have called the customer and rectified that situation as I do not have or want to have anything to do with the customers finance situation. When I went in back to get the double trailer, the associated placed the boxes on the trailer and disappeared. With only 1 way out of the yard, I had to hitch my truck to the trailer and make u-turn with little to no space to do so. The associated should have turned the trailer toward the direction for me to connect and pull straight out. This should be always done. Again 1.5 hours is a complete waste of my time and the customer. The customer had an elevator reserved which cause even more issue by the time I arrived at the customer home.

We arrived after office hours to load things in, assuming that with storage access open until 10, we would have no problems. Unfortunately, the larger sliding load-in doors did not open, and we couldn't get in contact with anyone to sort out what to do. We made it work with the regular single door, but it was definitely an annoying (though small) inconvenience. The zip tie was still left on the locker, which I thought meant it still was not ready for use, and the dimensions of the space were not as expected. Granted, I may be partially to blame for this part, as I thought it would be 10' horizontally, not vertically. The combination of all these smaller things paired with the general stress that comes with moving just made for not the best experience, and I will have to move my items out to a bigger unit.

When we arrived, there was a line of four people with only one person behind the counter helping anyone. The other two were having a conversation about going to the gas station. After waiting in line for 35 minutes, the payment system went down. They had to manually authorize my credit card, and then they gave me an old NC van with a quarter tank of gas, an hour after my reservation. When I went out to the van, it was parked behind another van. I had to go back in to have them move the other van so I could get out of the parking lot.

I believe it was the assistant manager I dealt with. She gave me wrong info on a policy they supposedly had and when I questioned it, she became extremely rude. My friend was right next to me and he witnessed the whole thing. I would definitely not do business there again and would definitely not recommend that location to ANYONE!

Foot traffic was heavy on Saturday, June 15th (and I presume that's the case most weekends). It took 30 minutes to speak with a U-Haul representative and get the keys to our 20' truck, so I would suggest increasing staffing during weekends in the summer in Chicago. Only other complaint is that when I returned the truck @ 3pm, there were no staff available to accept the truck. Myself and six other individuals waited outside, but none of us were helped. After 15 minutes, I opted to return the truck via the mobile app (which I would personally do again if there wasn't someone readily available next time).

Teach your employees how to properly hook up a trailer. I had to completely redo all of the chains on the trailer because the employee was unable to properly connect them to my truck. Staff did not seem like they knew what they were doing inside either.

The truck was filthy inside the box as well as the cab. The padding around the cab door was coming off which made the ride VERY Noisy and rough, EVERY TIME we hit a bump I had to adjust the drivers side mirror. Which meant I literally had to stop ever 20-30 miles to adjust the mirror. I would not recommend this rental location based of this truck. The workers were not motivated and were very slow. There were several of the workers on their phones and would barely respond to customers.

In person, the staff were "helpful and friendly", but they were unreachable by phone, and the former manager was unresponsive to many emails I sent, and unresponsive to after-hours calls I made when 7-9pm after-hrs access didn't always work, causing return trips the next day and hours lost. This past weekend, I had both a locker and a truck rental, and attempted to reach branch staff more than 10 times by phone, and all calls rolled unanswered to the national help line after 5-7 local unanswered "rings". Over 7 months, callls to branch during business hours were answered in-branch less than 5% of the time. My issue this past weekend was with a 15' truck with an undisclosed 3' x 6" open gash in roof hidden by door when retracted, and not visible from outside unless a ladder was used, but which let rain water drain in on contents while driving in Saturday's rain, causing me to pull over in shelter and delay my delivery an extra day. re: storage unit, my rent was just increased after only seven months, so I just chose a less expensive competitor this week.

The person prepping trucks was terrible. After the counter agent told him to load the pads and dollies he didn’t do it. When I went out to the truck and asked where they were he told me to get them myself and get the follies by the door and load four packs of pads. Which I did. The agent saw me doing it and was disgusted the guy told me to do it myself.

The system broke down we came in to rent the storage unit and it took over an hour to finish up the paperwork. This later caused issues with our auto payment - we never received payment reminders via email or text and our payment didn’t go through. when we came to move out, the elevator was broken and we had to move our stuff down the stairs. The manager said he’s busy and will come the next day to figure it out but we already rented everything and made arrangements. Seems like this location has a lot of technical issues from our few experiences there.

It would have been nice to have a few extra hours for after hours access. Also, I know it is almost impossible to control and having them is a courtesy, but the lack of moving dollies stored by the door was an issue. Finally, it’s been a bit of a hassle to deal with the insurance claim from the pipe leak back in December.

I had a very poor move in experience. Customer service and communication were severely lacking. When I made my truck reservation, I saw a message on the site that said you could get a month of storage free with a truck rental. So I did that. I was then very surprised when I arrived at the storage facility, saw even more signs advertising this special, and the full amount was charged to my account anyway. I went to the office to try to straighten this out and get the special I ordered and was given absolutely no help at all. Nearly every response to my questions were "I don't know". The best she said she could do was offer me a free lock. (?) Which I don't need since that already came with the unit and doesn't at all solve the problem. I then had an issue with the access code to the unit. I showed the same employee my access code and asked for assistance since it wasn't working. She again responded with "I don't know" and mentioned something about purchasing extended hours access...which I have no idea why I would need since it was not even close to being after 10pm. Thankfully I was able to get in myself, but I cannot in good conscience recommend this place to someone else after the terrible experience we had. If this issue was resolved, I would raise my rating, but as of right now this place barely earned 1 star.

I had a terrible experience with the associates at the store. I went inside to pick up a rental truck and check-in for my rental unit to provide my renters insurance, redeem my free lock and the free month of storage email that I recieved after renting the truck. I was told I needed to get back in line to handle my rental unit after picking up my vehicle because there was a line. I went to the truck and pulled it up to the entrance and the door was already locked 15 minutes early. I stopped an associate to ask if I can be let in, I was told no and that my lock would be in the storage unit. When I found my unit there was no lock provided, I then pressed the customer service button in the facility and was told to come back to the store. I retrieved the lock but was refused when I tried to discuss the free storage promotion. Once I moved my belongings in, I realized that the latch was stuck and I could not close it to lock it. My husband had to run to a gas station to get WD40 just to get the latch unstuck. Overall, it was a very negative experience.

Space is reasonably priced, well maintained, very clean and good security. The staff is always polite and helpful. I would recommend UHaul storage.

The manager, Charles, was very professional and respectful and he helped me getting my storage unit without any hardship. However my poor rating goes to the first staff I had to encounter after being in line for about 20 minutes. She wasn’t professional and respectful. Upon arriving at the counter, I said I’m here for my storage reservation. She didn’t take the time to look at her screen and check, replying “we do not have any available storage” without asking me what specifically I was looking for. I reminded her about my reservation and that I checked two times over the phone, a few days prior to that day and she showed no concern, referring me to the 800 number even though she has full access to that facility on Kedzie. I said, can you offer me something else since I counted on this space and I just got less attention and care as if she just wanted to skip serving me as a customer. she insisted no one has moved as of today, then no unit were to be available. I had a feeling she wasn’t doing her job. Asking to speak to her manager, Charles, I finally realized that they do have two units available. Charles was very professional and I’m only dissatisfied with the staff poor communication and service. I had put all the efforts to reserve a space, and even double checking by calling the 800 number and the facility itself, and had I not been helped by the manager, who was temporarily outside at the time of this whole encounter, all my moving plans would’ve been ruined. It’s the first time I’ve had to experience such attitude at a uhaul. Thanks!
