This location was a breath of fresh air compared to the last two truck rentals from UHaul were a disappointment. Quick customer service and resolved a spontainious issue that came up. Storage facility alarm goes off randomly and without intended effect - just ear piercing annoyance. Additionally, the employee who assigned our storage unit assigned us to someone else's unit. There was already a lock on it. We tried to get in to our unit for the first time after hours. This made quite the frustrating experience. I don't know if the Boise location or the Durham location switched the vinyl covers, but my boxes arrived with different covers, much older and the Velcro didn't work. As a result, water got in one of the boxes and ruined my mattress. Very disappointing.Pete S.

Truck was a last minute replacement for one that was supposed to be available in another city. There were no issues with THIS U-Haul location. The truck was clean, but had a bad vibration at highway speeds. The mechanical condition of the truck that I got and the failure to honor my reservation at the Boone, NC location were less than I expect from U-Haul. I do not fault this Durham location for these failures.Michael M.

My reservation was for 5pm but I had to wait until almost 6pm b/c I was "forgotten" at check-in. Thank goodness Ike was there to help me and hook up my trailer. An improvement would be that staff not be allowed to be on their personal cellphone while checking people in.laurie W.

I originally chose UHaul for my move because its UBox shipping service seemed straightforward and affordable. I learned that it was affordable for a reason. UHaul cuts corners and does not care about its customers. When your belongings are lost or late, UHaul will do nothing to help. I ordered one UBox. I paid $1980 for shipping from California to Durham, North Carolina with the guarantee that the UBox would arrive by July 22. I received a notification the box shipped on July 15, and I got no updates on the box's location after that. When I went to check the location of my UBox on the UHaul website, the status was listed as "in storage" in California. This status stayed the same even after the box had shipped, so there was no way for me to track where the box was. I received no updates after July 15. The box was supposed to be in Durham by July 22. On July 23, after I hadn't heard anything from UHaul, I called the customer service line. The UBox customer service couldn't do anything to help me find my UBox. They redirected me to the North Carolina scheduling center. No one at the North Carolina scheduling center knew where my UBox was either. The best they could do was send an email to the shipping company that was supposed to be shipping my UBox. They told me to call back in a few hours and see if the email got a response. I called back in a few hours, and there was no email response. I was told to just wait it out. On July 24, I called the North Carolina scheduling center again. They still didn't know where my UBox was. The representative I was speaking with tried calling the Durham UHaul location to see if they had received the UBox. The employee at the Durham UHaul location said that they might have it but that he wouldn't step outside to look. The North Carolina scheduling center representative helping me told me that I should call the scheduling center back the next day after 1pm to see if there was an update. By July 25, my UBox had still not been located. All of the UHaul representatives I spoke with did not seem like they were in a hurry to find it. I needed my stuff in that UBox. I needed a mattress to sleep on and a chair to sit in. UHaul had no idea where my UBox was, and they couldn't give me any estimate on when it would arrive. This is absolutely unacceptable given I paid more than $1900 to ship one box of my belongings. I didn't have extra mattresses or chairs to use while I waited around for UHaul to find my UBox. On July 25, I decided to call the Durham UHaul myself. I asked the employee to step outside and look for my UBox. He found it within 2 minutes. How is it that no one at UHaul knew that my UBox had been sitting at the Durham UHaul? Does UHaul not have a tracking system for the items it ships? The only reason why my UBox was found was because I had been actively trying to track it down for days. I will not trust UHaul with any of my belongings again because I am afraid that they'll get lost in UHaul's terrible shipping system. Though the UBox had been found at the Durham Uhaul, I would not be able to access it because there was no working forklift at that UHaul location. The forklift had apparently been out for days. Why did my UBox get delivered there if they knew there was no working forklift? On July 25, I spent two hours on the phone with various UHaul customer representatives trying to figure out how to get access to my UBox. No one could help. I was denied access to my belongings and again told to just wait it out. No one knew when the forklift would arrive. On July 26, I called UBox again to ask if there was something they could do to help with the situation. They inquired around and said that they believed the Durham location had secured a forklift. I asked if they could help me set up movers, and they said that I'd need to be transferred to UHaul Moving Help. The Moving Help line went to voicemail, so I left a message and called again. I was then on hold with Moving Help for 25 minutes before someone answered and told me that I couldn't schedule movers because the â€œservice location addressâ€ attached to my UBox order was incorrect. I'd have to call UBox back to have that resolved. I then called the Durham location to confirm that they had a forklift, and the employee that answered was very unhelpful. He told me that he had just gotten there and didn't have time to check. He said that I'd have to call back in two hours and speak to his manager. By this time, I had been on hold or on the phone with various UHaul representatives for about 2 hours. I called UBox to ask if they could change the service address and confirm again that there was a forklift at the Durham UHaul. The UBox representative helped me change my service address. They again confirmed that there was a forklift. The representative also helped me book movers. I'm not sure why the first UBox representative said I needed to speak with Moving Help to book movers, when the second UBox representative was able to book the movers directly. After ending my call with the UBox representative, I went online to view the UBox reservation that the representative had edited. The reservation said that I would be charged for UBox rent and insurance again (an extra $100+), even though I had already paid for it when I picked up the UBox in California. I called UBox again and waited on hold for an agent to help me resolve this. When an agent answered, she agreed that the charges should not be there and said I'd have to wait 72 hours for the issue to be resolved. On July 27, the movers brought my UBox to my home and I was (finally!) able to access my belongings. It took 5+ hours on hold and speaking with UHaul agents over 4 days to get my UBox. If I didn't have the time to actively advocate for myself, I'm not sure that my UBox would be here. My experience with UHaul was completely unacceptable. No one could tell me where my UBox was or when I could expect to access it. I was transferred between departments and then transferred back again when an agent couldn't answer my question. The information on the UHaul website was not updated or useful. I felt so helpless and frustrated. I will never use UBox again. I will tell my friends to never use UBox. I will warn people about UHaul's poor system for keeping track of its shipments. I would happily pay $1000+ more to use a different company that actually cares about its customers. What can you do to improve for your next customer? First, get a tracking system. Let customers see where their belongings are. Second, if a location does not have a working forklift, do not allow UBoxes to be delivered to that location. Third, update your website. It is outdated and hard to use. It was very difficult for me to get to my UBox reservation after the box had been shipped. List the different customer service phone numbers to different departments on the website so that customers don't all have to go through one central phone line (the 1-800-GO-U-HAUL number). Fourth, train customer service representatives to actively try to resolve problems. To fix my situation, I had to spend hours actively calling different UHaul departments. If I didn't have time to do this (e.g., I had a full time job, I had kids), then no one would find my UBox. UHaul representatives should reach out to customers with new information when it comes in.Kaitlyn R.

Before I left the lot I notified the attendant that the battery sound weak when I started the vehicle. Nothing was said or done about my concern. When I got to the destination to load the van, the van did not start and needed to be jumped. I then went to my offload destination and when it was time to leave that location I needed a jump again. This was very inconvenient for me because I had to waste time to find someone to give me a jump to get down the road again. So, at the end of the day I'm not happy with my rental experience.Dean A.
I used 24/7 mobile for truck pickup, use Android phone and could not get all mobile app functions to work even after log out and reboot, however when I switched to uhaul website version on my phone with Google Chrome everything worked great, so tell people having mobile app trouble to try thatRobert B.

This was a terrible experience. I have never had a bad experience with U-haul before this. Even the movers said this level of incompetence was never observed by them. I had scheduled access to my U-box much in advance but when I hired movers I decided to get the U-box delivered by them too. I called U-haul and the mover called as well to make sure the U-box would be on a trailer for pickup on the day. The movers got to the facility and the U-box was not on a trailer. They asked if someone could put it on a trailer and apparently the one person that could drive a forklift did not come to work that day. Much frustration later, we rescheduled to have the U-box picked up the next morning. The mover was on hold for 2 hrs waiting on the status since they were an hour drive away. I was waiting at home when I really needed to be at work. I ended up getting fed up and driving to the U-haul and picking it up myself. Of course it wasn't on a trailer when I got there and I had to wait for the employees to track one down - which meant taking one from another U-box. I would be a little more sympathetic if it was clear this was only an understaffing issue, which may be part of it, but this goes beyond that.Saad A.

I was given equipment ID TD1401L on my contract it was TD1410L (transposition of digits) The return took over 8 phone calls oh hold for over 1.5 hours and then was charged an extra 14. for returning to the wrong location which was not true. This rating is more for about corporate Uhaul than the location. 1. Work with your customers on pick-up location - I was moved from a location 5 minutes away to one 30 minutes away that was unmanned. When trying to contact dispatch was on hold for 90 minutes when the call was dropped. I never was able to contact dispatch to discuss the situation. 2. My reservation said I could use 24/7 pick-up, but when I arrived at the location and tried to use the Uhaul App to pick-it up it said go to counter, but there was no counter to go to. 3. Calling uhaul for help was useless- put on hold for 45 minutes only to get someone who couldn't help and be put on hold again. Finally made contact with the owner of the location and he helped get the keys. 4. While trying to use the app to document damage and mileage it froze and wouldn't allow me to continue. Fortunately, I had all the pictures saved on my phone, including initial mileage and gas amount. 5. The truck had not be cleaned in the back. 6. The appliance dolly and moving blankets I had reserved were not present. I had to go to another location that was manned to make a new reservation just for the dolly and blankets. This was a Horrible experience and UHaul's customer service is about the worst I have ever experienced.Tim B.

When I arrived at the store, I was told the truck I reserved was not available. I opted for a "comparable" truck, but was not told until it was time to sign that the mileage charge for the comparable truck was more than twice that of the original truck ($1.19 vs. $0.59 per mile). In addition, as the desk staff walked me out to the replacement truck, we actually passed the truck I had originally reserved. When I asked him about it, he indicated that he didn't know where the key was to that truck. Instead of trying to find the key, he simply continued walking to the more expensive truck that I was forced to rent. Unacceptable customer service. All of this should have been thoroughly investigated (locate the missing key) or explained (the much higher price of the replacement truck).Eric T.

I was very disappointed with the U Box delivery service. Our boxes arrived 5 days after our "guaranteed" delivery date, and we struggled to find out any concrete information from the U Haul service representatives. Over the 5 day delay, we spent approximately 10 hours on hold with various U Haul representatives, just to be told repeatedly that they had no information about the status of our boxes. Is words I would describe this facility as WOW. It was the cleanest storage facility I ever used and the people were the most freely that I have ever seen in my last 10 years of using U-Haul. I move yearly for my job (whole house - state to state) and for the last 9 years i have never used a better location. The facility and trucks from this location have been the best ever....comparing to different locations around 9 different states. And this u Haul facility and their truck conditions were the best I have ever seen and experience. The staff work very hard to keep the facility including the bathroom spotless. I would definitely recommend this storage facility and their trucks to be use by anybody in a whole Raleigh Durham area.Matt M. | Overall Experience
I called this morning to ask that my May-June payment be prorated since I checked out yesterday on May 16th. I do understand you might have policies that don't allow this, but I would like to treated like the good customer I am. Just a little more friendly and accommodating. Thank you. Please consider how time efficient and safer it would be if the outdoor access for Ubox access on the premises had a canopy and had direct light shining at the boxes after office hours. By safer I mean being able to ensure you can be seen if you trip on a bus or trip due to the pavement having grooves shaped in it for the path of traffic. It is great getting fresh air and accessing the UmUboxes on your premises, which is set up for this product to be placed and moved upon. Another idea is a small portable chain fence placed around the Uboxes in case a dog or squirrel wonders over or a box rolls out while accessing the unit. I reserved initially online, and didn't realize that the space I got was so small, especially the door. The employee who helped me was able to switch my space to what I needed, and was extremely helpful. However, he did tell me that the first month was supposed to be free, and I got charged - is there a way to rectify this?
