The truck was not at all equipped with tires to cope with winter conditions. The truck got stuck on three different occasions and we have to tow it out using straps or chains, or have other helpful neighbours and people help us. We tried calling numbers times throughout the evening to get assistance but nobody would pick-up the phone. When calling the physical location we picked up from (1070 Southeast Marine Drive in Vancouver) it sounded as though they would pick the phone up off the hook and put it on hold right away, never actually coming back to answer it. We got to the site at 7:00pm (we would have been there 2 hours earlier if we didn't get stuck) and were told we couldn't drop our dollies and bins that were rented off inside - we didn't want to leave them in the back of an unlocked truck and then be held responsible for them going missing. Overall an extremely frustrating experience with no way to get a hold of anyone to help us.Shivdev G.

The phone system wasn't working or else it was my cellphone because every time I called, someone picked up but no one to talk to? Not sure what happened but in the end, I showed up in person and they were able to accommodate my needs which I completely appreciated it. I am grateful that my vehicle was available; however, one should always make sure when they receive their vehicle that they check the physical body of the rental and especially, the mileage and gas gauge. I overlooked this as I drove off and I took a photo of the mileage and the true amount of the gas gauge. When I explained to this U-Haul Representative, he was good to allow for that because I filled it to the 3/4 tank as the girl at the counter had indicated but in actual fact, the gas was only just pass 1/2. Other than that, the service is excellent and I would not hesitate to use them again!Linda F.

I booked a truck, then was called a day later and told that the truck I had booked was no longer available - it had been given to a different customer on a one way trip elsewhere. (Have you heard about how actually holding the reservation is the most important part of the reservation..?) To resolve the faliure to hold my booking, your agent offered me a smaller truck (15' instead of 20'), at a location significantly further away. Then, your agent suggested that this entire situation was my fault, for having the poor planning to book a move on the last weekend of the month... Perhaps your agents don't understand how leases work, but there's a reason everyone moves at the end of the month... Having snide comments made by your representative was not appreciated. As we approach the day of the move, I kept my eye on your website to see if any larger trucks would become available. Sure enough, one did. So I called again, and booked a new truck, now a 26' truck. When I arrived to pick up the truck, the gas tank was empty. Running on fumes I was able to get to the nearest gas station and fill up the truck. (Note that because I was filling up the truck before having driven it more than a block, there was no way to estimate how much gas the truck would use throughout the day). Upon returning the truck, your agent informed me that you only reimburse $48 for gas, "as a curtesy" when you give a customer an empty truck. Otherwise the customer is expected to manage their gas and return it at the same level as it was received at. This entire experience has left me wanting nothing to do with your company. If any other rental option is available next time I move, I will use them instead. I will not recommend you to anyone, instead I will warn them that working with you is a nightmare. I will tell them that you make a stressfull time significantly worse, and to factor that in when they are tempted by your seemingly cheeper prices. You had several opportunities to provide a pleasant and good service. In all cases your agents (or perhaps your internal polices forced your agents) to pick the worst possible outcome: 1) Holding a booking. This is self explanatory, if you book a truck, you shouldn't rent it out elsewhere. 2) Upon making a mistake and notifying a customer of a lost booking, you should try to resolve the issue, and if you can't then you should provide some form of compensation. Barring that, managing a wait list and notifying me when a truck did become available would have been acceptable. 3) Fill your trucks up! Your SE Marine drive location is 1 block from a gas station. Go fill up your trucks each evening and rent fully gassed up trucks. Driving on fumes should not be the norm. Sending inexperienced drivers in giant trucks straight to a gas station, before they've had any time to get used to the vehicle seems like a hazard, and an accident waiting to happen... 4) Operate your trucks like every other modern rental service. Provide either a gas card, or compensate users for gas that they give back to you. Stealing gas is wildly unacceptable. Alternatively, factor gas into your mileage rates, and pay for all the gas used on the trip.Isaac G.

I wanted to extend one more day, but was told that the cargo van I had was already reserved, and there were absolutely no more vehicles to rent. Then when I mentioned what about a penalty if I keep it one more day? Well, hmm, then she said well we will charge you $150. So that means there were other vehicles or mine was still possible to keep one more day. I hate uhaul more than any company on the planet. I've moved four times in my life, and each time my reservation means nothing. This time I went a day in advance of my move to see if my month-old reservation was good, and sure enough they didn't have a truck. You're a horrible moving truck monopoly that I have the displeasure of being forced to use each time I move, and I hope I stay in this house forever if only so I don't have to every enter one of your stores again.Jeremy L.

Don't give an in-town customer your ONLY one-way trailer when you have MANY in-town trailers on your lot. Then freak out when the customer needs to keep the trailer for an extra day, threaten to charge them a $150 fine, then when they don't like the conversation threaten a $200-$500 fine. The employee was told any unauthorized charge would be immediately disputed. And then proceed to not call me back after saying you would. Then put a $147 unauthorized charge on your customers credit card. I don't know what the employee policy of this company is, but I do not appreciate being threatened. To be fair to the employees I would expect Uhauls software to assign an in town trailer to an in town customer if available at the location. Also, the rental extension function in your app doesn't exist. Links just keep turning you in circles, it says there is an "extension form" but this form doesn't exist.Robert P.

Tried to check in online. Couldn't find the truck. Then it gave me between 10 and 15 more trucks to look for. I couldn't find any of them. Ended up having to go into the office. Something I was hoping not to do as I'd signed up to self check. The lady at the desk was nice. She gave me keys to a truck but told a co-worker she thought there might be a truck in front of mine. He was adamant there wasn't. I had to walk all the way around to the rear of the building only to find my truck wedged between 2 other trucks. Had to go all the way back to the office. After about a 1 - 1.5hrs delay I finally got my truck and got on the road. Was obviously running late with my move so had to organise my new house keys to be left in a lock box for me at the realtors in Princeton. Not great. UHaul had called me on Thurs to let me know that there was a special offer on and that my rental would be a set rate, no limit on mileage and include the 3 days I booked it for. I thought, great. I only needed it for 2.5 days anyway. When I picked up the truck on Fri the lady told me I could drive 1000km. I thought..that's not unlimited, but still well more than I need. I drop the truck back early on Sunday and am told there's an extra charge for the extra kms. Not a lot. But also...I shouldn't have been charged extra when on the phone I was told it'd be unlimited kms, and in the office was told I had 1000km. The guy was nice, but said I could go into the office if I wanted to dispute it. I told him I'd sadly wasted too much time at the start of my trip to waste more at the end, as I had a lot of cleaning up at my old house to do. The ride itself was smooth, the truck was fine. But wow, UHaul needs an overhaul on their online system if they want it to be anyway useful and not put people off using their service. It's ridiculous being sent to look for a truck that wasn't here. Then to be asked to look for 10+ more trucks that weren't there. What would I have done if the office hadn't been opened by the time I finished looking for all these missing trucks. Shoddy shoddy way to run a business. And now I'll need to call to ask why I was charged extra, necessitating losing more time in my busy work day.MARCELLA K.

Include an option on the website to be able to extend a rental period when more time is needed. It would also be better to be able to call the location direct to speak to them about it. I had to call many times, with no one answering and sometimes it goes to some call service in the USA. I'd much rather deal direct with the location and/or extend the reservation directly on the website. Notwithstanding this, the rental and service was good and the vehicle much better than I expected.Helmut J.

It was made aware to me at the desk while picking up, (the trailer) that I required a wiring plug adapter (4 pin to 7 pin), despite me having to enter all information about the towing vehicle. The rep at the counter offered to sell me one for $20, (more than 1/2 the cost of the rental). If this equipment is necessary for safety it should be offered as part of the rental. I offered to pay a deposit and return the adaptor or rent it by the rep was unwilling to entertain a solution and instead feed me lines. Exterior staff were greatBradley R.

I did my online pre check in and entered the info including an estimate of my expected mileage (25K) and as a result was given an estimate of $75 for my total invoice. Upon returning the truck I was told my bill would be $80 and was shown that amount on the attendants phone. I questioned why $5 extra. His reply was that I had driven 16 miles. I used my phone to convert miles to kilometers and it turns out 16 miles is 25 kilometers just like I had estimated. The attendants shows me his phone again which now says $75 and denied saying that my total would be $ 80. I feel this was an attempt to overcharge me and if I hadn't called him on it I would have been charged $80.Fabrizio R.

Would be very helpful if the first time you come, someone would take you from the reception desk to your locker, right from the beginning. Instead I was directed to the wrong entrance, wasn't told how the access system worked, so I had to wait for attendant, who then had to walk me all the way back to the other side of the building that I originally started at. I was a client for like 2-3 yrs at the cost of bout 500$ a month roughly 12,000$ to 18,000$ ipaid in storage fees. I was behind a few times but always paid it. Bout a week or two ago they put my lockers for auction i called and asked to give me couple weeks and id pay in full. On the auctikn site it clearly says that the auction can be canceled at any time before the auction starts or during if the client paid in full before someone won said auction. Your facility said to me even though it clearly says on the site that the auction can be cancelled that it was impossible to give me a couple weeks to pay if i wanted to keep my stuff i had to pay in full before acution. Now i lost approximately 40,000$ to 50,000$ worth of tools and equipement for my work not only that but lost my job cause sonw of the stuff belonged to the company i work for and they think i sold their tools and made up a story. I have a 1yr old daughter and another bb on the way in march. You facility is by far the worst faciltiy there is in the entire storage facility centers the manager and staff are rude and dishonest. Im gonna make it my life long work to inform everyone pozsible threw social media and any other means what happened and why and how uhaul as a whole is by far the worse possible storage facilty in existence. Also says that under certain circumstances that some of the items sold in auction must be returned to the client who was the owner of the locker before auction at the price that items where bought for to not circum to possible court issues. So im hiring a lawyer to exercise this option. I have to retrieve certain items as they did not legally belong to me and in turn should be returned like i lost my job cause they told me they couldnt do anything about giving me a couple weeks to pay which was a lie and basically put my family into poverty.stephane d. | Overall Experience

Worst experience I've ever had when moving. I ordered a container to come to my house on the 28th. They let me wait half the day and after being told it was coming, by 4 pm they advised me it wouldn't be coming due to no drivers showed up for work! I then had to rent a storage unit and a truck and move items myself as fast as possible and then fly to Edmonton in the morning. I needed to ship the container to Edmonton but since that never happened, I had to travel back to Vancouver and move things myself which was very costly and stressful!! Never will I ever use uhaul for moving or storage ever again!! In fact I would like to be compensated for all the costs and stress it created for me. Nobody should ever have to go they that especially someone who has medical conditions. Horrible horrible service. Oh and when I had to book the storage unit, they booked it in the USA and not even at S.E. marine drive so when I arrived they there was a confusion as well and barely had a unit to give. Monday, October 3, 2022 When I sold my home March 2015, yikes,I have stored my belongings at 1070 SE Marine Drive, Vancouver. We were trying to decide if we wanted to buy a second home and move those items then into second home. Work got so busy and I could not make up my mind...hence 7 years has passed. The fees kept rising, inflation, and finally I retired and have sold most of my items. I feel relief and I had to take that long to 'grieve' my sentimental attachments to my belongings as I worked so hard to acquire them. It was much easier to speak in person with the friendly and kind staff at this location instead of being hooked up to some USA telephone operator. Because I was working full-time this was my only option. Definitely I will use this U-Haul Storage location again in the future. No elevators, no punching in a bunch of codes, good parking space, easy to drive to and I love the different ethnicities who work at this location. I have also recommended U-Haul to others. I have had my locker longer than the stuff in it was worth, lol. However, I have always found it extremely clean, safe and the staff from counter personnel, the people that are outside returning trucks and the staff that are responsible for keeping it all clean, to be wonderful to deal with. I have hd a storage unit at the SE Marine Drive location for almost three years. Any time that I have needed customer support, the staff have been unhelpful. Unacceptably difficult to contact them with questions over the phone. Even more difficult to reach a manager. Service in the shop was excruciatingly slow, and the staff could not tell me how to find my unit (among thousands). I was given vague (and ultimately inaccurate) directions to go into a certain part of the building which turned out to be nowhere near my unit; after searching for nearly an hour and pressing the call button multiple times asking for help, someone finally came and lead me to my unit. The morning of my moving date. I was told on the phone that the storage locker was free for the first month. It wa not. Said no recollection of reservation. Charged me $330.00. For the storage locker that had steel structural framing in the middle of the room, east to west, floor to ceiling. The stress, anxiety and process is something we can all do with out. You can not reserve from the website without it crashing, but you implement new features that sont work without fixing basic functionality. You cannot reserve but phone because you're own system doesn't consider height of a storage unit despite this being extremely important. But you aren't told about any of these issues until after you come to put stuff on your unit and address told it's no longer available. You are then given the run around, few employees or call center workers can do anything, and then you have to tell the manager how to do their job. They also can't even hold a unit for you in a neighboring facility because managers can't call each other directly, they have to wait in hold and get hung up on. I had nothing but a bad experience, I reserved a larger unit but to be told it wasn't available on the day I moved items in. The lineups to speak to someone were incredibly long. Trying to call the location was ridiculous, either you couldn't get through or the person would hardly answer the question. I met people on the lineup that had to show up to the location to speak to someone because they had no luck calling. The bathrooms were disgusting on the warehouse. The day I tried to remove/clean out my unit all the bays were blocked but one by workers. I was seeing people having to try and carry items down the street to their cars because there wasn't even enough parking in the lot for them. We were rushed in the one available bay yesterday to remove a mattress, box spring and couch. Just ridiculous when people aren't warned the bays are blocked and have trailers coming from another city. At least warn customers about this ahead of time.Amanda B. | Overall Experience

Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience getting accidentally locked outside the exterior door when my storage locker was still unpadlocked inside (I was going back and forth between it and my car in the loading bay...). As this happened maybe 5 minutes (if that) beyond the usual access hours, I then spent literally *hours* composite on hold with Uhaul call centre employees who knew *nothing* about the hours or security or location where I was / were completely unwilling to facilitate remotely. It is *mind-blowing* to me that a facility that has doors that lock automatically doesn't have a contingency plan put in place for people who might need to go back and check they locked their locker properly or might have left personal belongings inside and allowed the door to lock behind them by accident. (No securtiy guard on call? No way to call to *local* employees of the chain instead of some call centre elsewhere with reps who clearly couldn't have cared less?! Unreal). The experience caused me and my partner a stupid amount of unnecessary stress, and for this reason, I can't imagine I'd ever recommend Uhaul to anyone. It made moving even more exhausting than it needed to be when there should clearly be ways to help help customers in this instance. Unbelievably bad call centre service and failure to provide critical facilitation to a customer who made literally a split second mistake at the exterior door. 0 stars.Alexis Q. | Overall Experience

After 8 years I came in on Sunday to upgrade my unit from my 5x5x8 to a 10x10x8. I wanted to move everything over. I was told I had paid tell April 11 and didn't have to rush. I explained I don't want to pay for 2 units Tony said he couldn't do anything about that since we have already paid. We got charged on Monday the 14 for both units. Dealing with the office staff is a nightmare. The computers often don't work properly so the staff is doubling up. There is always a long wait. It must be company policies but there's a lot of "fine print" which aggravates everyone that walks in there judging by the amount of irate customers who leave. The parking lot has too many u-haul trucks parked in it, not enough customer loading/unloading and very narrow. They built a new wider sliding door to the storage facility but it's always locked from the inside. I was evicted for bringing my very well behaved dog into the facility and it was during the middle of the night when no one else was there. I was a very loyal customer for almost 3 years and had 24 hour access. The manager said he had warned us verbally before but I know nothing about this. In any event he gave me 72 hours to be out, took away my 24 hour access and I had access from 7 am to 7 pm. Well I work so this was not possible and I ended up having to rush my huge locker of stuff out onto the loading dock and was left there to move it all night because it is very difficult to find storage in Vancouver. I asked him for his bosses #, called and was told she was on holidays of course. Left my # to have someone calle and have had not a peep to this day a week and a half later. Your storage facility was quite clean and tidy, if my experience with Uhaul had only involved the storage space I could easily offer a 5 star review; however, on either end of my experience with the storage was an extremely unpleasant experience with beat up, run down trucks, with inaccurate readings on fuel gauges and odometers. On both ends of my trip, fuel gauges AND odometers were not recorded correctly, loaded with 1/4 tank of fuel, and the difference was charged to me unless I had clear evidence showing the difference. Additionally, if you return a vehicle with less than 1/4 tank, they add an additional fee, which leaves the vehicles rented with 1/4 tanks immediately ready to add said surcharge. None of this even starts to address the condition of the rented trucks, which seem like a game of Russian roulette given how loose the steering and suspension were. I mentioned when returning the vehicle that the condition of the vehicle was quite poor, and the inspecting fellow grimaced as though it was a common complaint. Not only will I NOT be back, I will ensure that I share my experience with others. Decidedly the worst rental experience I've ever had.jair S. | Overall Experience
