Asked if any trailers with ramps were available. Clerk said no. Went online, found a trailer with a ramp at this location, and reserved it. Went back in and waited half an hour for clerk to be free to help me again. Told him I had a reservation and he got the trailer for me - the one he said he didn't have. Pretty terrible customer service.

doug H.My experience was great and fast, and the man behind the counter was really fast and efficient with my reservation, I felt like I was in great hands, and I have always had great service at this UHaul location.. Two different customers arrived while I was there and didn't have reservations, and just expected they would be able to get trucks/trailers though, late on a Friday afternoon, but none were available that weren't already reserved. It's nobody's fault per se, but maybe subtly emphasizing availability may be limited on weekends (like a sign saying "Reserve now for your upcoming moving needs!") would have helped those customers out. Nobody likes to turn away a customer!
Michael B.U-haul corporate should work to improve their systems and processes for their call center, so that a mis-communication, such as what happened on my trailer-hitch installation doesn't happen to other customers. When I called the call-center, we discussed having the largest capacity trailer hitch (for which the car is rated) installed on my car, but the message never made it to the U-haul installation facility, and the wrong (smaller) hitch was installed. Now I will have to be without my car for 2 days while I have the work re-done. Also, it's possible the installation facility will need to charge me for the re-work, which doesn't seem fair.
Todd V.I had a few frustrations yesterday. First of all, the app was not working. It kept restarting from the beginning and I spent about 10 minutes trying to get it to work. Finally, I went into the lobby to get my truck. Then his computer was slow. He specifically told me the gas tank was FULL and highlighted the guage on the sheet all the way full. Then he said I needed to return the truck FULL or I would be charged. When I got in I checked the guage out of curiosity and the needle was right at the “F.†Before I returned, I filled the truck and it took over over $30 to fill. I had not driven that far, so I was shocked that it took so much to fill the tank. When I got back in the truck and looked at the guage it was about 1/8" past the “F,†so, clearly, the truck WAS NOT full as he had indicated. When I did the mileage calculation, the mileage would have been .35 miles per gallon. VERY FRUSTRATED THAT HE SPECIFICALLY TOLD ME THE TRUCK WAS FULL WHEN IT CLEARLY WAS NOT AND DEMANDED THAT I RETURN THE TRUCK FULL! Had someone explained that the tank MAY NOT be full, I would have known and wouldn't have spent MY MONEY filling the tank with fuel I DID NOT USE. This is the first time I have rented a UHAUL truck, and I trusted your representative to be honest with me about the status of the fuel level. I am starting a new business and will likely rent a truck regularly. With that, I am not sure UHAUL will be my choice in the future.

He got people checked in for their rental smoothly and expeditiously. Very professional and polite; he was very patient when helping an older gentleman who wasn't technologically savvy, and English not his primary language. The clerk helped him in a way that ensured he was treated with dignity and respect. I didn't get his name, but I'm sure you can find out by looking at the schedule for May 6th, st around 9am for this location.

DEBRA J.The second key that came with the circle master security lock that "I HAD" to use and purchased (at the 7425 e Washington st location in Indianapolis) DID NOT WORK. It was too big, and that was the only one I had on me at the time. The employees at that location suggested I call a locksmith because it would be "faster" than the service thru could provide for me meaning NOONE could have assisted me until the next day. I had already reserved the UHAUL so I couldn't be refunded AND I was on a time constraint anyway because I had to be in Michigan the next day. So I spent $170 on a locksmith which should not have been the case. And then once the locksmith got there, he needed an outlet to plug in the tools he needed to use to get the job done. EVERY SINGLE outlet in that building was not working, so we had to use MULTIPLE very long extension cords just to be able to reach the main entrance to the locksmiths car, because he had a power connector on deck in his car. I was thankful that one of the employees could provide some extra extension cords to do so. So once I finally get into my unit, I loaded up my truck but then of course I didn't have a lock to secure it so I had to buy another one from your establishment immediately. I finally get on the road to head to my drop off location where they told me I had a free storage unit for a month and when I got to that location (the one on 2345 Alpine Ave NW Grand Rapids, MI 49544 United States) they didn't have a storage unit. This location then referred me to the next closest UHAUL which was on 500 Cesar E Chavez Ave Grand Rapids, MI 49503 United States This place did not have any storage available. So then I went to 3815 28th St SE Grand Rapids, MI 49512 United States Who thankfully had a storage unit available (the free one that came with my reservation). When I went to go lock it with the same high security disc lock that I then again HAD to have (not my own), did not align with the hinges on my unit. I brought it to the managers attention and he hammered the hinges together so then they were aligned, however the disc lock that I "had" to use still wouldn't fit. So I used my own little master lock that I normally use for work, which is not secure enough in my opinion. Not to mention, my 6ft $5,000 couch did not fit in there and that was the first thing I tried to put in there. Well I wasn't going to just leave the couch so I had to take it out of my way to make sure it was safe. I think the least the man could have done was put one of the master disc locks on my locker vs my little one which is a huge risk factor for my stuff getting stolen. In conclusion, the convenience of this whole situation was totally not ideal and I think I need to be credited at least for the locksmith, the risk of having to use my own lock (that I use at work but didn't have) which is 100% not fully secure on my current storage unit, & the extra fuel it took me to go back and fourth (which probably put me over my miles). I have used UHAUL before and never had anything like this happen to me.

We loaded it before 10:00 a.m. It took a while to get roadside assistance, after trying to charge the battery for 20 minutes. I sat on hold for another 15 minutes after that call, trying to get ahold of the center, again 1.5 miles away. You wasted over two hours of my time and cost me two movers who had to leave. This created a domino effect, which has impacted me on more than one level. I do not appreciate the behavior of a staff member dispatched after I had driven to the center during the fiasco. I have requested a call from the manager to address their personnel issue. Regardless, I am livid at how much harder you made this move for me. Shame on you.

Jennifer S.First, it took nearly 20 minutes for me to find a human employee at this location. I "hello"ed a few times, waved at secutiy cameras, knocked on doors - inside and outside - before calling the store and being directed to corporate customer service, where a very helpful and friendly (and increasingly confused, lol) associate called the store and the cell phones of every employee and manager who was allegedly there, with no response from anyone. At this point someone (KaZya Murphy) wandered out, and got the process going, although that was also extremely lengthy. I was on time for my reservation, and it took over 45 minutes to get the equipment I had booked. So to answer your question, maybe remind people not to blaze up in the self storage units when a customer has a reservation.

I should have received compensation for my time and gas because I had to return to rental location to pick up dolly in personal vehicle because the agent “forgot†to put it in rental vehicle.

The gas gage still showed 1/8 pf a tank. Called your service number for help and they wanted $300 to send someone out with a gas can. After waiting an hour, my wife brought one out. I put $40 of gas in the truck in order too get a $20 credit from UHAUL. All this for a total of 47 miles round trip.

We rent U-Hauls often for our business and if there was a more convenient location, I would 100% change locations.

It said that I was supposed to scan a barcode and I could not find a barcode to scan, and when I tried to load the scanner it said scanner could not load. I ended up dropping the truck off putting the keys in the box taking a picture of the location and the clock so they knew I returned it to the right place shortly after they closed.

Giovana B.I needed a hitch receiver installed on my 2014 Subaru Crosstrek to be able to transport my new ebike which is too heavy for my existing bike carrier. Now, I can haul a utility trailer if ever need to. The install took about an hour and a half due to the one before me ran longer than expected. which was not bad at all considering I was told it could take up to 3 hrs. It would've been awesome if they had a small sitting/waiting area. I dropped my vehicle off and walked over to a restaurant and had lunch. It wasn't too long after I got back that it was finished. Still waiting on the bike carrier to arrive to utilize it. I needed a hitch receiver and they installed one. I got the wiring package, as well. The employees were courteous and I have no complaints. My experience was a good one.

While I do understand that short-staffing is an ongoing issue recently, I have experienced this same type of treatment from this location on other occasions (prior to COVID) as well.

Why did she tell me my storage was canceled, and I find out the next day that it never was, couldn't call to cancel it myself because she changed the name on the account without me asking or telling her to (so "legally" it wasn't my account), had to wait over 1 week for the manager to approve my online move out request that should've already been canceled like the lady said it was. I don't care to say much more outside of my entire experience being below poor. I would never use the uhaul on Eastbrook, and training should be a main priority for the new staff there and any prospective new staff! The staff was friendly but not helpful. My experience would've went with ease if they were helpful. Train the new hire(s)!

Diane D. | First ImpressionsTo begin we were guaranteed a 20ft truck (the only size that would work for moving to a new state) at a specific location nearby. The day before pick-up we were contacted and told that truck size doesn't exist at the guaranteed location and we could drive to a further location for a 15 ft truck (way too small!) They should've delivered the truck to our location instead of making us drive 3 hours round trip, taking 3 hours out of a workday and losing us that part of a days paycheck and wasting our time and stress. Once we got the truck unloaded and headed to the storage unit we'd pre-registered and that was included free with our one way truck rental, the trouble and headaches kept coming. We were originally given a 10x5 at another facility, but when we got to the unit, it's actual measurements were 5x5, even the worker said that happens, that U-Haul's dimension of storage spaces don't always match the dimensions they advertise them as, he measured it for us for confirmation. We had to call customer service (plus 15 minutes of in hold time) to locate another facility with the size we needed because the store was unable to look it up or call them. We had no way of double-checking with the new facility whether they actually had the unit available in that size, and the worker at the one we were at wasn't able to for us (ridiculous they can't call another store locally to check!). We had to blindly drive to the new facility. Upon arrival, check-in was smoothish. The young man wasn't thorough and missed some things we had to correct for him. Then he sent us to our unit and forgot to come unlock our unit for us so we had to go remind them we were there 30 minutes later to which the guy said he'd forgotten we were there. He didn't warn us of the sticky trap on the floor of the unit or point it out at all so I accidentally stepped on it moving something into the unit and ruined the bottoms of good running shoes. All of this made us late for our rented truck drop off time, and lower on fuel for drop off than we were supposed to be, we wouldn't have been if this hadn't all been wrong. Not only was this a drain on finite fossil fuel resources, it was a waste if our time, adding an additional hour of driving around for U-Haul's mistake. This all also made us so late that we missed a ticketed event and were unable to get a refund. Very dissatisfied with the company and the customer service as a whole for wasting at least 5 hours of our time, energy, and emotions.
