I drove from Keeseville, NY to Hartford to pick up a one way rental to move my daughters remaining items from school to Keeseville. When I arrived I waited for 45 minutes to see someone and then was told that the U Haul rental which remained confirmed on my app was not there. The only reason I rate the location as "Average" is because Maria found a last minute solution after I spend 45 minutes asking for the person behind the counter to find a solution. I reserved my vehicle for a 1:00 pm pick with a 5:00 pm return on Sunday, August 28, 2022. I understood that the store closes at 5:00 pm and should I arrive after 5:00 pm, I would have to proceed with self check out. I arrived in the store at 4:55 pm and waited in line behind one other customer. One staff member was attending to the customer in front of me, another was attending to another customer outside, while another female staff was standing looking at a phone and pressing buttons. None of the staff acknowledged me nor did the one standing with the phone offer any assistance. As soon as I got to the desk immediately after the customer in front of me was finished and I told the male staff member that I was there to check out after returning the vehicle he proceeded to tell me they were closed and I needed to self check out. As fore stated I entered the store 5 minutes before closing. I told the male staff member that I had been waiting in line, and of course all 3 staff members knew that because they saw when I entered the store. The male staff then shrugged and with a very nasty attitude told the female who was on the phone to check me out. She walks over with a nasty look on her face and he continued to curse under his breath. The other staff member who was on the outside came in and started cursing as well. This is very unprofessional and distasteful and sends a clear message that UHAUL hires people who obviously hates their job, and have no customer service ethics. That said, I will never use your services again and I will NOT recommend this store to anyone. It is a total disgrace!Tanisha W.

Wait times were very long going in to pick up the truck. I would've done the mobile option if I had known; I just thought it would be easier with a human being. Dropping off went so smoothly (thank you, Nick!), but again I wish I knew we could drop off 24/7. Nowhere in our online booking nor at any point in our pick up did anyone tell us that. The service at the Capitol Ave location is always the best of any U-Haul I use. I am a regular customer.Jason F.
The place is generally fine, and the manager is generally nice, but the person who read the fuel gauge when I returned the 15' truck I rented mis-read it. The tank was 5/16 full when I took out the truck. I traveled a total of 10 miles, and put 3 gallons of gas in before returning the truck (just to be safe; the printout they give you said it only needed 1.7 gallons to return to 5/16). The person who checked in the vehicle said that I was all set and could leave. Back at my office, when the invoice arrived in my email, I had been charged for 2 gallons of gas based on a fuel gauge reading of 1/4 tank. That was clearly wrong based on my own reading before I turned the truck over (which indicated 5/16 or 6/16) as well as the math above. When I called to complain, I wound up on hold for 15 minutes, and eventually drove back to UHaul. The manager eventually gave me a credit when I showed him my credit card charge. (When I said let's go look at the fuel gauge ourselves, the manager said the truck had already been re-rented and was off the lot, which seems unlikely given that I had returned it less than an hour earlier, several hours before it was due.) What really irritated me though was that the manager said it was partially my fault for not sticking around long enough to confirm the fuel gauge reading with the employee -- even though she had specifically told me I could leave. In addition, the employee was there during this transaction, and she was unapologetic and surly. When I told the manager she had mis-read the gauge, she interjected that she was perfectly capable of reading the gauge accurately; when I replied that I wasn't questioning that, only that she had mis-read it this time, she told me not to insult her intelligence. This is obviously not about the negligible sum of money involved, but rather the way I was treated when I complained about a mistake that they had clearly made that caused me inconvenience.Paul C.

The Capitol Ave location in Hartford did not have a storage unit large enough to accommodate my property, so Kevin Skeete made a reservation for me at the Brainard Road location. When I arrived at the 40 Brainard Road location, I was told that the unit was unavailable and it could be days before a dumpster was available to clean it out. I have had bad business dealings with U-Haul in 2018 of over charging me in late fees,and also the last time I gave my card number to pay my storage bill, a young lady CSR back in Jan 2022, someone try to charge two grub hub charges for $64 and change each and they try to do some shopping online for $189 and some change, the only reason I know it was from someone who worked at U-Haul because it was a new càrd and that CSR was the only one I gave that number to. So no I will not be recommending no one to rent storage space because they hire dishonest employees. It just so happens that I have security protection on the card and all three transaction were declined and a hold was placed on my card until I notified the bank.April S. | Overall Experience

When I got to the facility around 9pm, the storage was on the second floor making it impossible to carry up the boxes. I could not use the storage. People are dumping their furniture in front of the main access way. Not only does it make it inconvenient but it also make the storage look like a local dump. Your staff do a great job making it clean but that recycling idea that you guys got have to go because it simply turned into the local dump. 95% of the things that the people left is straight up GARBAGE that can not be salvage.
