Incredibly friendly and helpful staff at this location! After Uhaul CHANGED MY DROP-OFF LOCATION WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT - leading to immense confusion and frustration, the staff at this location helped me get the truck returned. Limited duration for pickup of trailer was involved. Limited contact with UHaul representative, as long as one goes through the pre check-in process before picking up equipment so that there is no time wasted for the customer and UHaul representative. I was double charged and cant get a reply from Uhaul, even though I sent a screenshot of my bank account and the first charge Uhaul tried to bill me for. Unable to pay with two cards, and the representative was unable to get ahold of U-Haul to verify if we could make that happen. In the end, we figured it out, so it wasnt a huge issue. Possibly make that apparent if it isn't to small of a group that needs it? Thank you for your services!Dillon A.

The guys at Salem Shell were very nice and tried to be helpful, but my experience with them as a pick up location for a rental car trailer was poor. First one guy partially completed the registration online before the other pointed out that he had used the wrong form and needed to start over. When we were finally done, the same guy came out to attach the trailer to the hitch of the 15' U-Haul truck I rented, and I noticed the safety chains seemed to be hanging very low. I asked if they could be shortened to avoid dragging on the highway and creating sparks - a wildfire risk - and he looped the chains more carefully. Then he said the taillight connecters didnt match, and I'd need to drive to an electronics or auto parts store to buy an adapter! I was stunned - I rented two standard U-Haul rentals meant to be used together and they were going to make me drive and purchase something to make them work?! Then I pointed out that in fact the two wiring harnesses DID fit perfectly together, and I still had to request that he stand behind the trailer to make sure the brake lights and turn signals worked. Clearly these guys are much more a Shell gas station than they are a proper U-Haul location. If you want an absolutely EXCELLENT U-Haul team, go to U-Haul of South Salem. It's only a few minutes away and everyone there is at the top of their game.Luke M.

I used the truck from 1:30 pm and returned at 5:30. I drove it 15 miles. I'm charged $75. If it takes 3 gallons to go 15 miles, there is something bad wrong with truck. I also have a $40 voucher from Coldwell bankers that the clerk would not accept. He said to go to corporate.Donald P.

The floor of the Uhaul box and the mom's attic was absolutely disgusting. It was clearly not cleaned out well or swept out. You could run your finger across it and have a thick layer of dirt on it. We had to clean the floor with chlorox wipes because it was getting our belongings all dirty. Also, I rented a Uhaul back in November of 2018 and provided feedback about the Uhaul reeking of smoke and I had to drive 36 hours across the country with smoke smell and there were even cigarette ashes in the cup holder which I had taken pictures of when I got it and Uhaul didn't do anything about that situation either. The customer service for Uhaul is very poor and doesn't seem to care when a customer has a bad experience with the rental. If I need to rent a truck in the future it will not be through Uhaul. I've spent thousands of dollars in the past year renting Uhauls and can't even get a response when I give feedback.Eric N.

My reservation was messed up from the very beginning but the woman from the call center in Delaware helped me track down a open trailer in Salem. She was helpful. The guy who runs the gas station uhaul in salem was a nice guy and friendly, the problem was that I told him I wanted to return the trailer that night after hours, we agreed on a location and I went on my way. I finished unpacking and went to drop the trailer off, I checked my GPS and it was sending me to the center on nw quimby in Portland, by the time I arrived and shocked, place was closed and doesn't accept trailer drops after hours. This was way outta my was just to get to this one, it wasn't the place we had even discussed. I then call the help center and had to wait over 10 minutes to talk with someone who had terrible phone reception. It was like I was talking to somebody on Mars. She sent me 20 minutes the opposite way to drop the trailer off. Terrible frustrating. Bummed me out on father's day. Not coolDerek H.
We got held up in traffic and were late for our pick up time but our technician Dan went above and beyond to speed up the check-in process and got us rented and ready to go with 4 minutes to spare before 8 (at which time he would have been locked out of the system and we would have been unable to rent.) This location is at a gas station with a mini market. I waited to speak with the agent and when other patrons arrived (all of them men and buying beer and cigarettes), I was asked to wait...and wait some more. Others just coming in were more important and when the agent finally got to me he was rude and surly. He made me and my sister take the unit off the hitch and roll it to the location because he was incapable of doing it. He didn't appear to have a physical disability and was twice my size! I would never use this location again, even for using the bathroom!!!Athena S.

I called and told The customer representative I spoke with to add another day ...(due back at 10: o'clock AM) was rude! I told her I needed the truck another day because it was too late to unload everything Last night. She then asked how long I would need it, and when would I have it back? I told her it was unclear, because I didn't know exactly how long it would take to get it unloaded. She said she needed to know when I was going to bring it back, or she would have to report it stolen?!? I told her, at that point if I was renting it for another day, I would have it back before the due time. I don't feel I should be threatened with UUMV when I was doing as instructed when I rented the truck, and called if if I needed it longer...Rod I.

This location has a great team, well organized. The problem is the parking lot is too congested to get in and out of especially with a trailer. If there is no other site who can provide a trailer then I would rent from them again, otherwise I would rent elsewhere.KARL W.

Since the rating selections do not include uhaul corporate customer service, I'll rate it here. Buyer beware of their fuel policy! If you encounter the misfortune during refueling as I did, you won't be reimbursed the $30 overage like I was charged. I inadvertently put in a quarter tank over what I intended because the truck's gauge didn't start moving until I pumped over the amount that I needed. Curious that uhaul has their denial of reimbursement in the first sentence of the contract's fine print. This happens a lot and it's gravy for their contractor gas stations. FIND OUT HOW BIG THE TRUCK'S GAS TANK IS BEFORE FILLING! Then do the math, I asked the attendant, but he jut played dumb. I hope this help you.john N.
Just one thing. As I told the check-in lady when I returned the truck in Denver, the left headlight was out. That I discovered the first time I used the lights, but it would have been better had the rental location checked that all lights were in order before renting it out. That said, the rental agents everywhere in Salem were helpful, polite and sympathetic to my predicament of having been allowed to book a van online for a one-way trip. Also, the 1491 Lancaster Shell was very, very busy, so I understand how the headlight got overlooked.Marjorie P.
This is a Mini Mart in a busy gas station. They lost my drop off records. I got a call from U Haul 4 days later asking where is the truck. I drove to the " Mini Mart" to investigate my self. The truck was not where I parked it. I called back U Haul and that is when they told me they found it at another location it had been transfered. Grade (F)Victor W.
Even though I am giving positive star ratings for these exact locations, my overall experience with this rental was abysmal. I am not blaming the franchisees, but UHaul customer service on their website reservation system and phone call customer service. Those are the areas I wouldn't even give one star to. After 3 different reservation switches on the day I was supposed to pick up, I was left feeling furious and beyond stressed. The website that I made my reservation with on July 9 let me rent for 3 days (as needed) for the weekend. Just 6 hours before pick up, I got a phone call telling me my reservation wasn't possible and it "shouldn't have let me rent for that long". Your weekend policy of only allowing customers to rent for 24 hours is absolutely ridiculous. Increase your fleet if you can't keep your promises as your customer service phone message says. The customer service rep who called AFTER my initial "we can't keep your reservation" phone call from South Salem UHaul, was rude, aggressive, and not helpful. Very upsetting to be told that what I thought was available wasn't, and a take it or leave it attitude. "You can drive to a further location for what you want and pick it up". How about UHaul helping with the situation and getting the truck I had reserved to the location I was promised instead of making ME drive further away for what I needed?? I wish I had her name to give to you because it was pretty terrible. Around 10:30am PST. About an hour and a half before our new 4:00 pick up location I got ANOTHER phone call from Shay, a customer service rep offering to upgrade our truck for the inconvenience of the earlier situation. At that point, I don't want any more changes. I don't want a bigger truck due to our property constraints and loading up. Lo and behold, a half hour before we were scheduled to pick up our moving truck, I get a text telling me our reservation - which I did not approve- was scheduled for yet another location, even farther away for us. Yes, the significant discount was nice. But for all the hassle in a matter of hours on the day of moving, it was pretty terrible and unbelievable that I had yet another "reservation" location to pick up at. I seriously do not understand UHaul's policies or customer service. I have spent roughly $3000 over the last 4 years with UHaul. And this is not an isolated incident. I've had similar problems in the past but this was the worst. I think I'll try Penske for awhile until you can get things figured out on your website for a more accurate reservation experience, and have phone customer service reps who listen to your customers.
