The truck rental was a great rate. This location is not convenient though due to the lack of parking when returning the vehicle. I would likely find an alternative location to rent from in the future.

Miscommunication, lack of professionalism, location had cats and it stunk like cat's garbage, rude staff, overcharged me without letting me know in advanced. 37-24 13th St Long Island City, NY 11101 should be closed for good. I Booked the Truck online. The website had issues when I tried to check in. One employee told me she couldn't help me until 9am that they were opening. I told her I had only one question. She said she couldn't help me or answer any questions until 9am. After trying to figure out on the phone with a Uhaul employee, they couldn't help me either because I needed to be helped by an employee they suggested me to go to another location in Long Island City, but they didn't know How far was the location And I couldn't look up the address online because I had 3% battery on my phone, since I was more than 1hr trying to do the online check in, sharing location and taking pictures of my face and ID. I decided to relocate my booking to its original location and comeback at 9am. Once I got there the same employee asked me to get the handy car I needed out of the Truck I was supposed to get earlier with the tools I requested because she wanted to give me a different Truck just to clear that parking spot for her convenience. Once inside the location, the place had cats hanging around in the office. The smelled of cat piss and cat excrement was too strong (even wearing a face mask). The same employee was helping me out on the other side of the window while one of the cats was scratching and biting her... and there was lack of comunication since she didn't want to leave the intercome on. So I has to speak louder and still she couldn't hear me or answer me all my questions. She specifically told me that I could do the checkout online or she could do it for me “no problem” she said. The Fuel was not full. When returning the Truck Which the app was not working either. It kept saying “unable to connect” right at the last step when submitting the odometer and fuel pictures even with phone service and internet. So I decided to go inside, but they had locked the door. Then I decides to drop the keys in the “keys drop off box”. Few minutes later I was charge $13.97 without an explanation. Next morning the same employee called me and tells me I was going to get charged $20 for not doing the online check out and because she had to do it, and her supervisor told her so. I explained that there was a miscommunication since the beginning and she kept the intercome off 97% of the time, which she replied “ I did because some customers complained that is too loud” but that was not my case and I was complaining she couldn't hear me and still didn't do anything about it. that she said she could do it if I couldn't but never mentioned any fees for doing it herself. I asked to speak to a manager and she said He couldn't assist me because if they receive customers physically they have to help them (didn't acknowledge I was still a customer). She would talk to him, but he was the one giving those orders. I asked her if she could call me back after talking to her, her response: “I'll try to do it when I have time”... First time trying Uhaul and very disappointed...

Dishonest, charged my card 1 week after for a different called to get the invoice and the manager has no record or receipt of transactions or bill for why there charging my card after I returned and signed of on paperwork for the truck will be calling my bank to dispute chargers and reporting them to the better business beuto

This location relies on the Uhaul app and website for all of its operations. The person in the office, Linda, is very rude and quite racist, and whenever something went wrong, such as the mileage on my paperwork not matching the mileage on my vehicle, she began screaming that only her supervisor, who was not present, could fix it. (In all fairness to her supervisor, Sean, when I reached on the phone he was very helpful.)

Ordered a furniture dolly and when arrived at the site, they had non in stock. VERY big disconnect from what you order online and what is actually available in stores. Had I known this, I would have rented elsewhere.

The woman working the desk was extremely nasty, disrespectful, and unprofessional. There was a problem with the keys and the lock boxes and instead of taking responsibility and understanding that ALL customers were frustrated and delayed because of this, she was nasty and rude with everyone. She talked over all of us and didn't listen to us. She even called the cops on one of the customers bc he was really frustrated with her and she used her privilege as a white woman to weaponize the cops against this customer who was a black man. Disgusting. She should not be working there and I will be telling EVERYONE I know about this. Terrible.

The office staff seemed very unorganized. My online reservation stated a different price than what I was charged. My one way trip was changed to an in town round trip which was highly inconvenient. I would not recommend this location or even use this location again myself.

The woman who works at this rental location is uneducated and unprofessional and not fit to be in customer service! She was outrageously rude and unhelpful from the get go when we were picking up the van. I understand that we are in the middle of a pandemic and everyone needs to practice safety measures. But she was behind a closed glass window and not wearing a mask herself. I was with my uncle who English isn't his first language but he was the one who was operating the Van. So I wanted to be present to translate for him, to make her life easier and we both wore face masks. But she was unaccommodating and insisted there can only be one person in the room at a time. So left my uncle waited outside on the sidewalk. Few minutes later when she couldn't fully understand him, she yelled outside to the street from her window for me to return inside to translate for her. Then I had to switch places with my uncle. She also billed us incorrectly and overcharged by almost $100. The link for the app did not work. Despite me showing her this, she still financially penalized us for it! When we called the next day to bring all of her billing errors to her attention, she impatiently brushed us off. She didn't even attempt to hear us out. She told us she couldn't do anything and that we call Uhaul customer line. Horrendous experience!

The whole process was made slightly unclear by the woman working at the front. She was erratic and not personable at all. As we are in a pandemic (and being someone who works in customer service) a little kindness goes a long way. Also, having to find parking for the uhaul in a limited area is extremely challenging and almost made me miss the deadline time for drop off (I had gotten their over an hour before my scheduled return time for reference). Otherwise, the uhaul did it's job in assisting me on my move.

No one told us you needed approval and you would not be able to get your key without it. Our pick up time was for 10am and after having to figure out on our own we needed an approval code we did not get the truck until 10:40

I cannot understand how U- Haul as a company continues to allow this entity to continue representing them. Subsequent to my renting the truck I went on line and read the past reviews. I should have done that prior.The rental agent in the office was rude, arrogant, insipid and could not care less about customer service. she answered no questions that I posed to her and on the return the following morning was again as rude as the day before. the truck had no working radio, the drivers door handle to lower the window as broken, the truck shifted to the right when braking, rear taillight was hanging out and the truck was not cleaned. I was informed that there is NO PARKING in the area so it will be hard to find a space upon the return. why would U-Haul allow a site to rent without having a proper yard. Insofar as tolls when I asked she said I was on my own. I rented a truck from Ryder and they set me up with tolls by mail, I will never rent from U-Haul again and urge you to cancel your agreement.

I wasn't aware of having to call references upon picking up the truck. I figure that would be a question while I rented it on the phone, the night before. Or at least give me a heads up on the procedure when going to pickup the truck. Other than that, all good.

Worst Uhaul facility and experience of all time. The truck was is terrible shape- graffitied and scratched. Unreported damage that didn't match the last photos. The gas meter was wrong. The owner and his partner seemed to have no idea what they were doing, no idea what was in the inventory of trucks, and took a very long time to do simple things to help me check out. Truck was not clearly marked and I couldn't understand half of what they were telling me about parking. The experience was so bad I would actually like a refund or credit from Uhaul; I rent from you so often I practically keep you guys in business. This facility is garbage- totally.

When retrieving the uhaul, lady behind the glass demanded that I return the uhaul the next day after I told her I wanted to extend my rental. She stated that she had other customers that were booked for the weekend and didn't want to disappoint them. I reminded her that I too am a customer and she was inconveniencing me by telling me to return the uhaul truck the next day. Realizing that I was wasting my time talking to her, I called the 800 number and extended my rental for two extra days.

Linda helped me out and she was incredible. Very kind and informed me well of all the policies. When it comes to location, this one's best if you've got a car and can swap it with the U-Haul. Otherwise, parking could be tough on the returning end.

U-Haul does not seem to update their online system consistently with services offered at different locations. I tried reserving a pickup truck for this location. I was called by the clerk at this location less than 24 hours in advance of my reservation to tell me that 1) They did not have pickup trucks and 2) They were not open on Sunday. After asking if there was any way to rearrange my reservation, she just told me to go to Woodside to see if they had anything there. I called U-Haul to ask for help and I did not receive any assistance, I had to take a day off from work to rearrange a reservation for Monday and to get a 9 feet cargo van. I was extremely disappointed with the service and the incredible lack of consistency between U-Haul's online services and their locations. There should be more coordination between U-Haul and their providers and I believe that what happened to me should not have happened.

The U-Haul feature to take pictures of the rental did not work upon picking up. The pick up in general was confusing and disorganized: it also could've been more contactless. Even when I was dropping off the vehicle, I saw other people trying to pick up who were very confused.

This is my third U-Haul experience and I've never seen one that operates this way. It's almost like a UPS access point. There is no U-Haul establishment or lot. So therefore, once you get inside (which there are no U-Haul signs o the establishment) you have to walk around an industrial rough looking area to go get your truck. Mine was around a six to ten minute walk away. Truck itself was generally fine, but the drivers side window handle kept popping off while driving from bumpy roads or potholes. When bringing the truck back, again there is no lot. So I brought it back to the street where I was told to, and then was told I have to go find parking myself. These streets are packed. It's also where they keep NYC cabs so these streets are bumper to bumper packed. After driving around wasting my own time, I get out, walk aaaaall the way back to this establishment, only to be told that I have to walk back to the truck to close out my contract. So then I walked allll the way back to where I parked it, closed it out, walked alllll the way back to the place and dropped off my key in a little U-Haul mailbox. This was all after...my booking experience. I had booked the Uhaul originally for Thursday July 23rd. In advance I called a few days earlier to have that pushed up and extended so that I could pick it up the 22nd, have it all day the 23rd, and then give it back the 24th. Evidently this never made it to this location and the team there. Instead of a “ok hey let me see what I can do because this is our problem” it seemed to be at first a “well, it's not in my system so what do you want from me” type of deal. I then found my confirmation (thank god I had it) that showed that I in fact made the call and it was confirmed in my Uhaul. So after that, I was able to take out my truck, but the person kept saying “so you want it for 24 hours.” I said “no the confirmation says two days, from the 22nd to the 24th”. Finally the paperwork comes, I receive it, sign my copy and their copy. Then go off on my journey to find my truck. On my way there, I notice that the paperwork says to deliver it in 24 hours. So I call back, the person said “ok I'll fix it on my end”. Then I get a text maybe an hour later saying something like “thanks for renting a uhaul, your order is to be returned in 24 hours”. So the entire time that I had the truck I didn't know the status of whether I was going to be charged some type of late fee, it was just end to end, not a great experience.

This was the worst customer experience I encountered in recent years. I've rented from U-haul for many years and I've usually have no issues. 1. The woman who was at the counter, wasn't professional, nor polite. 2. The office smelled like a dirty cats litter box. 3. The U-haul phone app wasn't working correctly and I had to spend more time, than I wanted to trying to figure out how to reserve the van. You cannot rent it without doing this step, which is terrible. 4. They do not have a parking lot, so in Long Island City, NY Queens, I had to walk around the streets to find the van. The clerk didn't know where the van was parked. In addition to that, I had to find parking on the street and parking spots are a rare commodity in this neighborhood. The clerk told me, that I had to go on UHaul.com return, in order to close my rental. Again, the app wasn't working correctly and I was unable to close my rental out. I ended up calling the manager, who surprisingly answered his phone. I explained to him what my dilemma was and he closed out of the rental for me. I will definitely use another company going forward. This was a totally unnecessary process.

The car is two blocks away from the office. Car's fuel level is not same as written in the contract. Also the car was not cleaned. Lots of glass shards left in the trunk.

The return process was problematic, the link that was sent via text message to my phone did not lead to any check out process just general page. I needed to manually enter an address that was written on the back of the key drop box and walk back to the van in order to finalize the return of the van, if I hadn't been informed by the very helpful gentleman who works at the location I would never of even know about the finalization process. This was extremely frustrating being that the van was parked a few blocks away. The whole process could have been made much easier if the link that was initially sent by text would have automatically lead to the finalization process which includes taking pictures of the odometer and inside of the van.

First, last customer left 2 dollys, blankets and a hand truck in the truck. When I notified the office they had me take out the equipment. Also finding the truck was a pain in the neck. There is no parking lot and I was instructed to look around the block for the correct truck only to have to walk back and retrieve the key. And when returning it was up to me to find proper parking in the area. My last comment is the mileage. I took pics to document it but its off by 1000m. I was charged correctly but could not enter the true mileage. In the beginning or end. My suggestion is to make sure the truck cabs are actually empty before returning the key to the lock box. No need for me to do the extra work from a prior client with no help

the contactless pick up and drop off system is just terrible. It ate up 40 minutes of my rental time. everything about it is terrible and ought to be scrapped and redesigned, preferably with the designers' heads first removed from their rear ends. Also, there's no parking available for the trucks at this location, so when you return the truck you just have to hope and pray for a spot located next to the location, and if there isn't one (because of course there isn't, it's nyc city parking), you have to circle the block endlessly, burning through miles for which you have to pay. I wouldn't recommend anyone use this location. I would recommend UHaul stop working with this location. It's a bad idea executed badly.

The key to the truck I rented was in the wrong box, the key to start the truck gave me lots of trouble. When I went to the office to get help the front desk associate said that I need to try it again because it does work. She explained that it was a copy and if I had issues that I could ask a mechanic from the collision shop next door to help start it. It delayed my whole move because every time I had to start the truck again it was a struggle!

Location has no instructions for where to leave van when trip is complete and in an area with little to no street parking and you dont know where van is until after you get unlock code.... which is after you "verify" the van is there

Confusing pick up process. I asked for mobile, but the location switched to standard check-in; that's fine, but I had to take my own pictures to inspect the vehicle. Give me a break, what's the point? You wasted 30 minutes at pick up. Never this place

When I have a reservation scheduled for 7:30 AM, do not change my pickup location to a location that does not open until 9:00 AM! The new location was a disaster because it was under construction, and there's no clear signage to indicate that it is a U-Haul pickup location. You arrive and wonder "Am I in the right place?"

This should not be an authorized place for uhaul. The office was under construction so we had to stand outside in the cold for 40 minutes to wait our turn and the place doesn't look like it will be finished anytime soon. My biggest complaint is that there is no parking for the trucks and we had to find parking ourselves?!? I have never heard of such a process - we had to circle around the streets of Long Island City to find parking for a 10ft truck - not an easy task. Then you have to write them a note a tell them where you parked it??? It's absurd and I will never rent from here again. We also had the truck until 7 pm but since it was 12/31 they we're closing early at 4 and gave us confusing instructions min how to close out the contract.

I requested furniture pads when making my reservation and they were not in the van when I picked it up. I did get a refund for them though, so it was not a big deal. The biggest issue I had was that almost two days after I returned the van, I got a call from a woman at this location claiming I had not returned the key. I absolutely had put it in the drop box when dropping off the van. I had a friend with me who can confirm that I returned the key as well. The lady told me repeatedly that I was going to get charged $100 for the missing key because she didn't know where it was. Clearly there's an issue with the box or with the key collection process, especially given that this was 2 days after I had returned the van. This was a very poor experience and I would not recommend this location to anyone.

THANK GOODNESS FOR RALPH AT BIG CITY AUTO BODY & TOWING SERVICES!!! I arrived at the location I had chosen to pick up my rental 10 minutes early as indicated by your website. When I get there, I come to learn that someone at UHAUL had changed the rental location without notifying me in advance. Though the attendant at BIG CITY was gone by 1pm, Ralph was kind enough to walk me through the process. He made one of his 10ft trucks available to me. After some trouble navigating the website I was able to take the truck after an hour of going back and forth between people on the phone and the site. Because of the delay caused on your behalf, would you be able to provide some kind of discount for my trouble. Delaying my move added additional expenses to my moving cost. Thank you, Janet Dacal

Inform customers that equipment is parked on the street, and parking can be challenging as a result. On a related note, the 24/7 mobile pickup feature AFTER HOURS may be QUITE challenging at this location, since taking pictures of your face, the license, and the vehicle would be too dark. Overall, the staff is pretty nice and Linda was a doll. Just took a bit to get oriented, as we were expecting a car lot where the vehicle could be picked up from. Looks like the place was under construction, so hoping it is much more improved if we ever return to this location!

The app is laborious. It's too different from how every other modern company runs their software. Also the local uhaul seller was bizarre, slightly weird. Honestly, not a great experience and I will look for competitors, would be willing to pay more, next time. Call me if you want more info. DO NOT send me mail or email.
