Service was great. I did the online checkin so I was in and out fast. The guy at the trailer was efficient and realized I owned a trailer based on the discussion and connecting equipment I had so he talked to me not down to me. Online return was really nice since I got there 5 min after closing. That's a great service.

Very courteous agent help me check in my truck. Drove on I five from Los Angeles to the bay area. The 10 foot truck perform very well with plenty of power. Even enough to pass at 75 miles an hour. I should say that my truck was not particularly full however. Thanks again. Ken

The pricing seems arbitrary. We returned the van in half the time and half the miles than estimated but it cost the same as the estimate. I stood in line with three people passing the counter before I got help.

$122.95 removes from my checking account. No authorization, nor receipt itemizing specifics reason! Receipt s were provided for 8 in pick up truck rental and $57.11 for tow dolly. I have bank statements please return my funds! These young that you have employed are questionable. Provide me with a reason or specifics what was $122.95 for? Everyone I came in contact with, including Friday when I made my reservation, was extremely nice and of good cheer. And this morning when I came to rent my van I was really really happy because there was a place that I could park my car. I only rented the van for about an hour and 15 minutes so I'm very happy with the service I received.

Furniture pads were not provided even though they were selected at booking. The reason provided was that this option is never “ guaranteed” which defeats the purpose of making the option available. Customers would have made alternate plans had they known that something they booked in advance was not available. Check in took 30min even though online check in was completed, and defeating the purpose of online check in. The truck was provided with only a quarter tank of gas which forced me to change my schedule and load up with fuel first.

While it isn't the fault of U-Haul of San Rafael, their phone number is often not answered at that office, but by national corporate employees who put me on hold repeatedly, for as long as a half an hour (until I hung up). They could not arrange for me to pick up my Ubox. I finally was able to call the manager on his cell phone, and if I hadn't gotten that number, it would have been hopeless.

The trailer was not ready upon my reservation. After 40 mins I was told the trailer is coming and wait another 30 mins or so for it to arrive. I asked it I could get a discount for the wait and the "owner / manager" said "what do you want like a dollar off" and laughed. I was not happy. Pretty rude. I waited it out and was on my way. Not a good experience from the owner / manager. The clerk was very nice and no issues with him.

Rented a Uhaul and a trailer to pull our vehicle for an out of state move. Loaded the moving truck. But mich to out disappointment. We could not load the vehicle on to the trailer, as despite providing the information about the specific vehicle both at the time of booking and confirming at pick up, they still managed to provide us with the wrong one. Damaged the vehicle trying to load it. Decided to leave the trailer, as Uhaul was closed. And it did not make sense to tow it without the car. Informed management of our dilemma and frustrations due to their mistake. And were informed BY THE MANAGER that “ It was our problem” and threatened with “ If WE didnt figure out how to tow the trailer back to the SR location from Novato, they would report it stolen ( nevermind that we are out of state at this point” Thankfully Am ex got involved. As the manager of the San Rafael location is probably the most unprofessional individual I have ever had to deal with, and my back ground is in Customer service. Terrible and appalling.

The reservation process was absolutely abysmal and I don't think I will rent again from UHaul based solely on this factor. I had originally reserved a trailer for Thursday December 2, and my reservation was shuffled around the Bay Area locations in the weeks leading up to my reservation date. I spoke to a customer service rep on Tuesday November 30 who told me I'd have to get a dolly because no trailers are available, and she assured me it would be available on Thursday at El Sobrante, and I received an email confirming the pickup location and dolly. When I arrived at El Sobrante on Thursday, they had no reservation for me, and informed me it was moved back to San Rafael. I received no indication neither phone call nor test nor email informing me of the move. This is absolutely unacceptable to me, and luckily I was only moving locally so I was able to rent a trailer from another company for Thursday and made a same day reservation for Sunday. Based on this experience, I don't think I'll be using UHaul again unless I absolutely have to.

I've driven many Uhaul trucks so don't expect a luxury ride but today's rental drove very poorly. Very noisy, apparently some kind of alignment issue with steering wheel pulling to the right all the time, and heavy odor of burning coming from under the cab. The person who handled my return said he would refer it to maintenance. But this location is overall is great. Organized, courteous, knowledgeable and efficient.

San rafael was good. However , I booked online and it said nothing was available in San Rafael and booked me in Sonoma, who I called the day prior to pick-up and they said they did not have a reservation. I then called San Rafael and they had a reservation. Then I get an email that said I had a reservation in Petaluma as well. I had to call them and cancel or I would have been charged. Uhaul online should be scrapped and totally redone.

Most conversations with U-Haul representatives were filled with disinformation, misinformation or were just as unfriendly as possible. I spoke to three different representatives to confirm the dimensions of the boxes and got 3 different answers. I told the first two where I would like them placed before discovering that they would not fit and could not be placed where I intended regardless of whether they would fit or not. I ended up having to rent a truck and loading my belongings into it then driving to the U-Haul site to load the boxes. The employees there couldn't locate the boxes and were incredulous to this and the fact that I had to hire people to assist me with this labor, ad I am only one person. All of this extra work took from 7:00am to 10:00 pm. The additional labor cost me $800 and renting the truck put me at $1000 over budget. At least I was able to convince U-Haul employees to let me keep loading the boxes past closing. Scheduling the drop off of the boxes was met with similar disinformation and push back from U-Haul employees. I was told that their truck wouldn't fit into the “alley” where I needed the boxes dropped off. I told them several times that it was a full street with a loading are and dock that I reserved for this. They said that they wouldn't drop them off. I called back and spoke to someone else who said that U-Haul reps that I discussed this with earlier couldn't say whether it could be dropped off or not, only the driver could. The driver called and I had to go through all of this with them for the third time. I was told that the truck couldn't park in the loading zone to drop off the boxes or on the street. I begged them to try and was told that if they came and couldn't deliver, I would still be charged for the delivery. I outlined that I couldn't use the dock until noon on the 15th. This was quite a discussion as well was was left understanding that after 12:00 would be ok. I got confirmation from U-Haul the next day that they would be dropped off at 10:00 am. I called and spoke to someone who could not have sounded more irritated that I needed the boxes after noon and not at 10:00. They begrudgingly shouted over their shoulder to someone else several times before agreeing to my time requirement and abruptly ending the call. The boxes came the next day on time and the driver parked and unloaded as requested without any issues. I still don't understand Why everything that I needed was met with a “NO” rather than outlining what they could do. Most everyone was so focused on saying no and what they couldn't do rather than what they could do. Awful, frustrating and frankly disrespectful service all around. For almost $7000 and more in labor that I had to spend on my end, you would think that people would be at least a little helpful. Really awful and I hope that I NEVER have to go through something like this again. I would go out of my way to use a different company's service in the future.

Excellent customer service at this San Rafael location. Equipment was clean but, even though only 30,000 miles, was extremely unsteady compared to previous Uhaul box trucks driven. Terrible shocks.
