No employee anywhere to be seen first 15 minutes in store. Truck was old, very dirty, and felt unsafe. Window air leak very bad. Did not get moving dolly I reserved as one was not available.JANICE S.
We reserved a truck for two o'clock in the afternoon. At ten till two we were called and told our truck was an hour away and we would have to drive there to pick it up as our truck had been rented out to someone else through error. My husband and I figured out a plan and we're able to get the truck at five, which prevented us from packing up and getting finished before dark. We also lost the movers who we had arranged to help us as they were only available in the afternoon. Uhaul error messed up our entire day and moving plan and made things much more difficult. I won't be renting with uhaul again unless I absolutely have no other option.Chelsea T.

Very disappointed in this rental and stated this upon my return. I had rented one 2 days early, was perfect. This one, the gear shift was so loose I thought it was going to fall off. Brakes squeaking very bad and on the way back the check engine light came on. Glad it made it back. Unit shouldn't have went out as it was.Christy M.

The facility installed new locks without consulting the renters first. When the lock that they provided failed, I was told, without apology, to hire and pay for a locksmith to remove the lock I didn't want. I was ultimately forced to arrange for the lock to be removed. I understand that in most cases, storage unit rental is fully transactional. If you are storing at their facility, make sure you get a keyed lock if your unit is outdoors. We moved our daughter across town. Upon driving truck (15') to her departure apartment, I noticed oil light starting flashing on & off (not good!). Got to her apartment (1 mile) and checked dip-stick (which was STUCK in tube, it hadn't be removed for quite a while). The dip-stick was complete DRY! No joke! No level at all. OMG! So, then took daughter's car to Auto-Zone and bought 5 qts of High Mileage STP medium grade conventional oil and a roll of shop towels. Put 2 qts in. Checked dip-stick. Level then came up to the very bottom tip (far below the 'L' mark). Wow again! Put in 1 more. Checked dip-stick. Level came up to slightly below the 'L' mark). So, I knew it could take 1 more qt as span b/w 'L' and 'F' is usually at least 1 qt. Put in 4th qt. Checked dip-stick. Now, just below the 'F' mark. We then proceeded to load truck and move her. When I returned the truck, I gave the Auto-Zone receipt to attendant (different guy) and showed him the 4 used oil jugs, and gave him the 5th unused qt and mostly unused roll of shop towels. He took all the unused stuff, and showed appreciation that I did all this. He said that U-Haul would credit me the $ per the receipt. It was around $25. I expect the truck burns some oil (as it had 125,000 miles on it) and maybe a slow leak too, but to be 4 qts low usually takes at least 3-4,000 miles for that to happen. For no U-Haul person to have spotted this (at least in the last 1000 miles) is NOT good for the sake of maintaining and not needlessly destroying your bread & butter equipment! Your crews at the West Lafayette store (or in this midwest region of shops) must do a pretty poor job checking critical maintenance items. When the oil light is coming on that means the oil pressure is low which means engine parts are not getting adequate oil. That's a sure why to needlessly destroy otherwise good equipment. Getting your crews better trained on key maintenance checks and auditing them that they are actually doing these checks might be a good thing to double-down on. Also, the passenger side front suspension seemed "shot". Whenever hitting the least road bump caused quite a jolt and racket on that side. Also, tires were getting near time to replace. Transmission, battery, brakes, A/C and mirrors were good. Battery looked pretty new. The back hauling quarters and access door were also all good & clean. Thanks for reading my review.Joseph S.

Uhaul was not cleaned at all. Trash left and I could tell it had NOT been wiped out which is unacceptable due to Covid. Wiper fluid had not been filled which is should be after every return or Atleast checked. I am 9 months pregnant and Uhaul truck shook TERRIBLY from Lafayette, In all the way to Sylvania, Oh I made an effort to contact roadside and was on hold for over an hour.Angela W.

I scheduled a date and time to purchase a trailer hitch and have it installed on my van online. I showed up at the location a day early to make sure everything was set for tomorrow. Much to my surprise, my installation had been changed to a day a week in advance. This was not at all clear to me when using the website. If you couldn't honor the date and time I selected I would have hoped for a more prominent notice that the date had to be changed. Since we're moving in a few days I cannot use the future date I was given. Nothing could have been done to honor my request, but had I known this up front, I could have pursued other options. Have a sign or some way to notify customers there is only one employee and may have to wait awhile. I drove the truck to the return area with one other truck in front of the truck I was returning. Nobody employee was around nor any other customer. Went inside the building. No employee or customer inside. Went back outside and waited several minutes. The self check in process is slow and somewhat annoying. It's just quicker to go in and rent a truck at the counter. You must wait for a customer service representative to get the key anyway. Other than the airbag service light being on the entire time, the truck was okay.MICHAEL C.

The staff member who helped us was excellent: well-trained, helpful, courteous, and efficient. The only downside of this facility is that you have to pay extra to use the storage facility after hours. When I booked the reservation, I didn't receive this information, and it would have been nice to know so I could have compared apples to apples when choosing a storage facility.catherine f. | First Impressions
