I reserved a cargo van for the day on behalf of my business (a national corporation, which I have done numerous times all year. I typically do not elect to spend $25 on the collision insurance offered, as we never feel it is necessary. This has never been an issue in the past. However this time when I arrived to pickup the cargo van, the gentleman who was at the desk processing my reservation stated that I had to provide proof of insurance in order to leave with the rental. This has never, ever been requested of me before. The gentleman said they had been requiring this for all cargo van reservations since earlier in the summer, which is not true, as I have rented maybe a dozen vans from this location over the summer, and not once was this asked of me. Furthermore, even though I have personal vehicle insurance, it will not cover a rental car, as will nobody's insurance. How am I supposed to provide insurance to you for something that I don't pay for already? How is anyone supposed to rent a cargo van from this location? I felt very misled with this situation. I placed my reservation online and nothing on the website stated I would need to provide insurance. We have spent thousands of dollars with you over the years, and never have we been denied a reservation due to a policy that was suddenly put in place with zero communication or direction. There was zero communication regarding this policy change. I ended having to pay the $25 fee, and would like it refunded ASAP. Gracias.ROBERT D.

The process was great, this does not directly apply to this location but I had a horrific time working with the scheduling department to get the drop off date/address set up and correct. I spent three days on hold for a collective three hours with the scheduling department to try to get someone who could help me. On the third day I spoke with someone but they gave me a location that was no longer working with Uhaul and the man who owned the location threatened to call the police on me for bringing the truck to him. I would not recommend Uhaul in general. Again this location was fine.madelin H.

The staff who answers the phone is not very efficient, at either location (South Shore or Lincoln Park):/ It's better to speak with them in person, to have their full attention. Though, many customers need great service over the phone, in order to figure out what we need before traveling... The staff is always positive at this location. I did not habe an opportunity to use the van because of the marathon. It took me 1 hour to try to get to my home which I could not and backnto Uhaul. I used $23 in gas trying to get home and back to U-haul. I.just dinated $48 to U-haul.Cynthia T.

Exterior signs were not helpful for Trailer rental return, as opposed to Truck return. Sign only said "Equipment Return" or Customer entrance. Was frustrated to enter the Truck return lot with a trailer, then having to turn around, exit onto a busy street, then go around the block, and into a narrow garage entrance up to the 2nd floor. The windshield of my Uhaul was taped. When I asked specifically why this was and if it would present an issue, the team told me it would not. However, the windshield was not properly secured, causing water to leak into the cab while driving and parked. The unsecured windshield was also concerning and stressful to drive with. I am very disappointed in the service I received and the disregard of the team who provided the vehicle.James S.

We've always had great experiences with U-Haul, but this has us thinking we may not use U-Haul again. We used the self check in that was pretty heavily marketed/pushed after I made the reservation. None of the employees on site had any knowledge of how the lockbox with our keys in it worked, so they switched our truck and we got it 30-40mins after expected time, almost derailing our move all together. The truck we received drove really poorly; if we were making a move that wasn't within the city, the truck never would have made it. It was also filthy and I took pictures to support that. Honestly really disappointed with this experience and paying full price for this service almost feels insulting. I expect a far better experience when I use U-Haul. (Added comment that prior to this U-Haul also cancelled my next day delivery of boxes. Probably won't be using U-Haul again after such a poor experience all around).Scott D.

I was not happy because I chose the N Halsted location to drop off my truck after hours, bur when I got there and tried to return my truck on my phone it said I had to take it to Fullerton location. It was extremely frustrating. I tried to call and I tried to chat with someone at Uhaul to no avail. Not sure I would recommend using Uhaul for a drop off in Chicago. My pick up location and convenience in Waterloo was c=fine though. Just Chicago is a mess for Uhaul. And I wish you didn't have to do everything on your phone to drop off after hours. The only area of improvement that I could suggest would be the check-out process. With having a reservation you are forced to wait with other customers who don't have a reservation or who have general questions. If there was a dedicated or expedited lane for those with reservations that would help reduce the wait time. If able to have one additional staff member at the registers would be helpful.Ken D.

The signage outside of building needs to be easier to understand! Specifically, the only sign outside of this location is â€œEquipment Returnâ€; however, you CANNOT return a trailer there (only trucks and vans), so DO NOT pull into the parking lot unless you want to struggle to turn around or back onto the (very) busy street. Trailer pickups & returns are done via entering the inconspicuous driveway and ramp into the building, which is not signed because â€œCorporate REFUSES to give the location a signâ€; why the location doesn't make a sign, who knows. Really, Corporate needs to give EVERY location 2 signs - one for â€œtrailerâ€ and one for â€œtrucks & vansâ€ pickup/return versus the sole â€œequipment return,â€ where trailers most likely cannot be returned.Stephanie C.

The van smelled and looked like the renter prior transported livestock - I kid you not. The smell was horrid and there was hair everywhere which we had to clean. It was clear an inspection of the vehicle was not done by your party. We needed the van and didn't have time to ask for a new one. While returning the van, the entrance to the lot of Lincoln park U haul storage was blocked by another van. It was after hours so the office was closed. I stayed at the return location for 2 hours to figure out where to park the van. I called the U haul customer service as well but wasn't given appropriate help but they did file a complaint for refund due to the inconvenience caused. The first cashier sold us a storage unit that had a missing key and no way to get in. So we had to find another 3 by 5 unit that was more expensive across the parking lot and move our stuff there. When the second cashier told us that one wasn't working the first guy walked away instead of acknowledging that he sold us the wrong unit. Check-in and return went well.Attendants we're professional and courteous. Our van had just been returned, engine was warm, was still very dirty outside and had damage on fenders that hadn't been documented. We were advised by attendant to photograph the van completely prior to departure to avoid being charged for any damage we were not responsible for. However, the renter in the van behind us could not leave until we completed the dispute procedure and began flashing her brights and honking at us. This made the whole pickup a bit stressful. The vans and trucks are so tightly packed at the Fullerton location. It would have been nice if an attendant would have intervened to ask the renter behind us to calm down.Mary L.

The cost was getting more and more expensive which was becoming a big drawback. And it was often difficult to get a car close enough to easily load and unload things from the unit. The U-Haul facility at 1200 W. Fullerton is beautiful and marvelous. I stored a large number of boxes there for many, many months, and then visited numerous times as I gradually moved these boxes to a more permanent location. It was always a great pleasure to visit the facility. Every member of the staff was invariably as kind, courteous and helpful as can be. Every area of the building is neat, clean and tidy, and the security system always functioned perfectly and was very reassuring. Bravo to the management and staff of the Fullerton U-Haul. I cannot be any more pleased and satisfied to have been a customer there, and I'm delighted to have this opportunity to most highly recommend the 1200 W. Fullerton U-Haul storage facility. The trucks are parked all over the place in no organized manner, in the lot. There is no separate entry way for customers wanting to move in. Access to the units is not convenient. The loading/unloading area is in an inconvenient alley. The building loading entrance is several feet above ground level. It would be very difficult or impossible to get large items from a truck into the building. I had a 15' truck and had to park outside the building with no street parking. The recommended alley was occupied by another truck. CSR was great but dragging my furniture up a long drive way/ramp was not something I was planning to do. Both the alley and driveway were not pedestrian friendly.
