Picked up with mobile app, truck was first in line which was not a good thing. Had to drive over curb to get it out of the spot because two trucks were behind it. What’s the point of using the mobile app pick up if you have to go inside to get someone to move trucks. Then once I get to my location I realized they did not load the furniture blankets I paid for. Upon return I then had to go inside to get a refund. The service desk had trouble issuing a return which took a while. This location usually has a long line so I thought this time the mobile app would save me time. There was three staff there, I do not believe it’s their fault for slowness in the process. I believe it’s uhauls procedures that make it difficult to get people in and out. Also the tight jam packed location make it hard to efficiently manage the trucks in the lots. This is the main U-Haul store in the city and offers the worst experience overall. Move the store or open a different prime location and change your processes and procedures to be simple and faster. Also when you signup for a truck or equipment, what’s with all the click through and offering people all this additional things/service. Know your customer, they are already overwhelmed with everything when moving etc. They don’t need additional steps and a lengthy process. You can tell the U-Haul employees also desire more for there job then having to deal with customers waiting lengthy periods of time.

YOUR APP, IT SUCKS. I would rather scratch out my reservation with a hammer and chisel than use your site. It is confusing to say the least and worthless to say the truth. you make one wrong click and you have to start all over. Due to this fact, it took me at least 10 tries to get my reservation put in. Makes me want to pick a different rental company next time. Seriously take a look at it, have your CEO or anyone in management try and use it.

The customer service was really really good and the representative was very polite and knowledgeable. The truck however needed to be retired. It stalled out on me a number of times in the middle of traffic, that kind of freaked me out a little. I tried to call the actual Portage Road location, but I couldn’t get through the three or four times. I tried to call but I do understand that they’re busy and stuff so it didn’t make me mad. I was just concerned, but overall, we rented quite a few times from U-Haul and we will continue to rent from U-Haul. .

This was my third time using this location and I've definitely decided it'll be the LAST. I've only had one good experience and it was when a FEMALE worker helped me, all the male workers are rude, condescending, lack work ethic, and have poor hygiene. This location (1004 portage) has a bad reputation anyway, and for multiple good reasons. The location is poorly set up and maintained. Hard to get in and out of the 3 parking spaces because they have a bunch of garbage, run down Uhaul trucks, and other messes across the lot and they have you driving over the curbs because of not having lanes to drive out the actual entry/exit ways... When entering the store, it's a mess, nothing is set up in a nice display, just thrown in a place they can find. Then you see the guy at the front desk and he's got a big wad of chew in his lip and he's spitting it out in a water bottle while assisting us... F*cking GROSS and extremely unsanitary!!!! Why or how is that even allowed??? I thought Uhaul was implementing "No nicotine" and refusing to hire those who use "any" nicotine products.. That's what it says on your website as dated in 2019. Don't care either way, but make sure your employees are not doing it while helping a customer or inside the workplace. Poor customer service from said chewer. He was very preoccupied in his spitting. Truck (TM 2761 T) was damaged and dirty. I took TONS of photos and videos before leaving the lot to make sure this location did not try to steal from me/ scam me for the poor condition of the truck offered, as they have a bad reputation of shady tactics and blaming previous (already marked) damages on new renters. The truck also needs massive mechanical work, for one, it sounded like someone took the CAT, but the master cylinder is going out. I'm amazed they let it leave the lot at all.. and there was a family getting it right after me.. The back was dirty, unswept. Returning it was a joke, it was before they opened and they had a bunch of returns all over instead of in the return lines, they were sideways, crooked, large gaps, etc. so finding a spot to park was rough.. just all around... Bottom line, there are nicer better set up locations in the immediate area with nicer and cleaner people who actually enjoy doing their job, have customer service skills, and uphold the value of the workplace they've chosen.

There was no room to drop off. The parking lot was very small, they had just closed 10 min prior to our arrival and had several trucks in the equipment drop off. No room to pull a 26ft truck.

The person who gave me the rental was chewing tobacco and spitting it into a pop bottle. Additionally, I was charged extra for the truck upon return. I put gas into it. I don't know what the extra charge was.

Overall, it was a great experience and would certainly use them again. Not a big deal, but I did not receive one of the moving supplies I had ordered online, but didn't realize it was missing until I had already left the store. Shame on me for not verifying. I have requested a refund on that and hopefully I will get it. Other than that it was a great experience.

The customer service reps were friendly and efficient. They stated that the gas tank was 1/2 full and I needed to return it 1/2 full. When I started the truck it was more in between 1/4 and 1/2, but no big deal. I drove it less than 35 miles and put 7.5 gallons in the tank to get it to the 1/2 tank mark, as I didn't want to get charged $10 per gallon for gas. What upsets me is that I literally drove it to Menards to pick up lumber, dropped the lumber off at our house, looked in the truck to decide if it needed to be swept out and figured for good measure I should. So I swept out the truck. Then I see that I was charged a $25 cleaning fee. I called the Portage Road branch and was transferred to the main office, or wherever, and explained my concern. The rep let me know that the local branch would be in contact with me the following day, but I never heard back from them. $25 doesn't break the bank for me, but I just don't understand the reason for the charge and disappointed that there was no follow up.

Drop off was super easy. We dropped our van off earlier than we had anticipated. The staff member at this location greeted me immediately as I pulled into the drop off area and explained the next steps. He also got to work cleaning right away. I would definitely recommend this location.

The installer was very helpful and did a great job getting the correct hitch on my truck. He was the only certified person on duty that day and was very busy helping people. His name was Charles and I think he deserves something extra in his pay voucher. No one should have to work every position.

This is a pretty good place to do buisness as long as you stay in touch with them they are very easy to work with. The only thing that I had an issue with at first was finding the number for the actual Uhaul Service center and Storage Facility that I was working with. I recommend that you ask for their direct number when you are in the facility filling out paperwork so that you do not have to go through the corporate phone tree and answering service which by the way is not very helpful and has proved to be very frustrating compared to working directly with the on site staff members.

We had an outstanding experience with the U-Haul. We were coming from three hours out of town and hit construction which put us behind our scheduled pick up time. During a busy moving season in a college town, the staff was kind enough to move our pickup and return time to ensure we had adequate time for our move. Pick up was smooth, the staff helpful and friendly. There was different staff on duty when we returned the trailer and moved into the storage unit but the service was the same, top notch. Kind, patient, helpful and had a great sense of humor. Would highly recommend U-Haul Moving and Storage of Kalamazoo (1004 Portage Street Kalamazoo, MI).
