We rented one of the smaller trucks and faild to inform us there was no third seat so we had to upgrade at an extra cost. When i questioned what im going to do with my second son wellnyou can get the bigger truck we didnt need but we have toncharge you an extra fee. The first girl told us they never had them then the second girl working the desk told us the company removed them. The staff could not even be bothered to show us to the truck. The truck looked like it had been sitting for a while. The staff didn't compleat a pre trip or even a wipe down of the truck. After we got under way after having our time wasted waiting for the staff to do there pre trip that was never completed we found the cab of the truck was full of ants in the cab and in the back of the truck. My two sons and I spent a portion of the trip having ants falling on us and getting bit. We had to stop at a friend's to get a leaf blower to Clear out the truck from the ants. The cab had a funny smell to it and we had to find a spot to put the cardbord window rent me sign. And the coffee spils and sticky stuff in the cup holder. We told the girl about the mechanical problems and she seemed to not even care. Every time we hit the brakes it had a hard pull to the left and the transmission had a hard clunk. I have used uhaul several times before but this will be the last time I use this store what a joke.Jason U.

Both on pickup and drop off the service was friendly, helpful,and organized. The lady who booked me in went well above expectations to find me a truck. Only wish i have is that the rental plastic nesting boxes i rented would have also been available to purchase. Maybe one day they will be. Thank you for the great experience.michael A.

i brought a truck back with more than half a tank of gas which I was ok with . I forget there was an empty skid in the truck which could of easily been disposed of but the gentleman charged me a fee of $20. I said to him the gas for the skid and were even and he didn't budge !!! Great service ... NOT !!!Claudio L.

I booked to pick up at another location but apparently they don't handle anything larger than a van, yet the online reservation appeared to have been successful. Had to track down where my reserved vehicle was. An email said a rep would contact me by April 16 to confirm the reservation. That didn't happen. Some employees are poorly trained. U-Haul charged me a service fee for return after hours that I was not explained by the employee (although it is written in the contract). After talking to a senior emploee at the location (perhaps the manager) I got a refund for the service fee.Nilson M.

In previous years, U-Haul trucks were always picked up with full gas tanks and all your had to do was fill up just before you returned the truck. It took the guess work out of how much gas to put in. Can you go back to that more user friendly option?gloria B.

I rented a 10 foot truck, dolly, (I thought the appliance one), 6 moving blankets, and 2 boxes. I picked up the truck at scheduled time then had to drive to another location to get the other supplies. The truck was 1/2 full of gas. I filled it at rental locaton before leaving there. I left more gas in it when finished than I started with. No credit however. Wipers didn't work. Almost got stuck in virtually no snow. Needed to rent another dolly at Vine St location. They couldn't exchange one dolly for the other. Had two dollies to move 1 item. Didn't get on the road until 11:115. Lucky to get back on time. Drop 1 dolly at Vine St. rest at St. Paul St. location. I was sent to the vine St location after picking up a 20 foot truck only because the engine light was on and it needed to be diagnosed. after a half hour delay I was told the truck was unrentable. the manager brought the truck somewhere to be repaired while I waited in the showroom for 4.5 hours only to be asked by an employee of Uhaul..."have you heard anything". I was very patient up to that point, when I stated it was their job to tell me what the hell was going on and I needed a truck to move 2200 kms. Eventually I was told if I could get to Hamilton there was a truck there I could rent. At that point I had 4 people waiting at my sons house to help load a house we had to empty in 36 hours to accommodate the new owners. So I called my son who lived 45 minutes away to come get me and bring me to Hamilton to pick up said truck. I then went back to Vine St Uhaul to pick up the 6 x 12 trailer I also requested. Only to point out to the young man who was hooking up the trailer that there was a bearing cap missing and the running lights were not working. Back in to the building we go only to be met with blank stares when the powers that be were told about the issues. Now, at this point I am over 9 hours late and have had enough. I simply left and stopped at princess auto bought a bearing cap and grease with my own money and fixed the issue in the parking lot. The lights I ignored since the brake and signal lights were working. With any luck i will never have to use another U haul again!ALLAN G.
When dealing with the staff they were not knowledgeable about the storage facility. The maintenance guy had no idea where the storage units were... We explained our machines and such and they scheduled us on the second floor which wouodnt work and had to reschedule us on the first floor. They directed us to the wrong side of the building and we had to make our way to the other side. It was like dealing with people who didnt even work there...Adam H.

Your equipment needs to get fixed for the 2 months that I was there the bays door are out of service when I specifically got my unit close to them as I have a bad leg !! Used it to move my stuff in and when I have to come back a few time it wasn't working and not working the day I left !!! There is a very bad odor when you go into the hallway from entrance almost like a dead rodent smell as it's a smell one doesn't forget!! I had issues with my swipe card when I register for a second unit when I was paying the mover by the hour I had to walk back in forth instead of uhal workers doing their job !!! Only when I got mad and said I can't keep walking back in forth with my bad leg a uhal worker came out and than finally did something about it !!! So for a half hour I had to deal with that issue !! I increased the rating to average because of the excellent service I received from the girl at the service desk. She took great care of me and was empathetic to my experience. She is a good natured person trying her best to make people happy, you can tell that's just her personality. She gets more than 5 stars! If not for her this would be a poor rating. The email package I received for the access was insufficient. The storage area is huge, and a maze. If you have never been there before you are lost! No appropriate map or location of my storage unit was available. The online link to the map sucks. It opens half the time and when it does it's impossible to navigate on a mobile device.William S. | Online Move In

The self service wasn't working. I provided the requested information and after waiting a length time, then not calling the alternate contact, i went inside to try and sort out. The agent seemed clueless as to why I was there and repeated that i needed to provide more i info. It was only after I paid it to him I don't have the additional information is there anything that he can actually do to help but he said oh well I can do it for you. We every through the entire process once and c it it didn't work so hard to do it all again. Once in the vehicle and doing the check, there was a message related to insurance to go back inside. Went inside and they didn't understand and told me not to complete the check off the vehicle and just go anyways. 40 min later I finally can leave, and that counts towards my 4 hours. Bringing it back, I should have been able to just leave it, but there was a message in their system that I had filed a damage claim and they needed me to go inside. So I went inside, again a lot of computer, they weren't sure what was happening so I had to go back to the vehicle with them to finish the check in. So I went back to the vehicle and then again they couldn't finish it so we had to go back inside to complete the transaction. The process was long and drawn out both picking up and return the vehicle. They did not seem to be anyp sincere empathy for the inconvenience. They just shook shake it off to being problems with their systems and no effort would be taken to report an or fix the problem. No apologies. Will never use Uhaul again. Maybe she had had a bad morning so it could be a one off. It was very unusual for me to encounter that at this location. I have always used my credit card to pay, why would you need someone's contact info that I know who has nothing to do with my credit report ??? This is horrible and without reason. Trucks should be backed into their parking spaces not pulled in forwards. It is safer to pull out forwards then backing out into the parking lane way blind because of the other trucks parked on either side.PETER S.

The truck had 88000 miles, a bit high for my liking and to feel safe, especially during a real cold winter day with temps of -15 C. I've feared it wouldn't start or break down on the highway. It shook a lot. Tires looked newish but the miles very high. I don't think anything with more than 80-100k km should be on the road, especially NOT Diesel or trucks that are rented to carry weight. I tried to go to Hamilton load and come back within 5 hours to unload when usually you can get 24 hours with a truck as he every time they rat a truck for 5 hours they're making more money on the truck and hes stuck and I got into serious medical condition and with no help I struggled I talked to an employee he wrote an email it disappeared and because the truck got locked inside the loading area I got double charge so I would highly never recommend to recommend to use u-haul storage or trucks because They're very fast charging you a lot more They will not refund me the 2nd day of rental plus Brett told plus I brought it back on the same mark plus a bit on the fuel but they charge me fuel tooKENDRA B.
Need to advise customers not to leave four way flashers on moving trucks for extended periods (2+ hrs). I left flashers on while loading the truck, and then it wouldn't start. Had to wait over an hour to get a boost.JOSEPH P.

The Uhaul storage facility was fine and convenient. The problem is the one of the two sisters you have working at front desk. The fat girl is manipulative and dishonest. She is not the right person for that job. I can see she's just pretending to like people to get the day done with for a paycheck. She is a liar and I would not recommend uhaul just because of her. I dont know her name and I don't care to. If i had to use uhaul services as a last option i would let someoneelse do it for me. Just so I dont have to see her lying and conniving face!!! Very disappointed with the information when booking our storage unit and truck. Rep 1st neglected to book the truck. I had to call and speaj w/different locations, who eventually accommodated me. 2nd, when picking up the truck and confirming storage unit. same rep went over quickly the directions to the storage until upon return. Didn't give me the step by step sheet for after hours. 3rd at time of dropping of storage contents couldn't get into storage facility. Called the after hours # and the rep said we had to wait until the location was open the next day, instead of giving me instructions to get into the storage facility, wasting our time, driving the truck home, which cost more. The next day location wouldn't cover the cost of the extra mileage and in process of disputing extra monies paid. Day one I asked for the manager to contact me, and waited 22 days for them. Finally moved out and got a storage unit with the competition. The first 10 days of my rental, my unit couldn't be secured properly due to poor unit upkeep. During my initial sign in of my storage unit, I asked about my lock for the unit. The counter agent advised that I did not have a lock. I was confused because I was under the impression that my unit came with a lock. So, I purchased a lock but when I opened my unit, a lock was in the unit! I went back to the counter, and the agent says "Oh sorry, it's not on your invoice so that's your lock now!" She would not refund me for the lock. Uhual, if a lock is included in the unit, it should be indicated on the invoice, whether it is free or paid for. When I went to return the truck rental on Welland Ave, the Gentleman there called to straighten it out, yet he advised for me to go back to Vine St because it is part of their inventory. He says "Well, you need to go return the lock to Vine Street, even if it's complimentary because you purchased a new lock". Why would I return a lock that came with my unit? Just to give it back to Uhaul for them to sell? Completely unorganized and I should have been refunded for the cost of the lock.Janey L. | First Impressions

I was actually really disappointed with everything I experienced yesterday. The doors of the unit I was given don't close properly so anyone walking by can not only see into my unit but put their whole arm through the crack in the door. That's not private or secure. I asked the staff to put in a service request to fix it and hopefully that happens quickly because my plans to move anything in there are delayed until it does. The biggest concern anyone has about using storage lockers is security. You can't afford to neglect that, ever. I got the other items I ordered with my unit, those items were in good shape. I have no complaints about those items I received. But I do have complaints about the way the facility is maintained. I had to wheel this cart over rough terrain in the broken parking lot, then over grass, then through another area of broken pavement, fighting to keep the cart from tipping over and all my stuff falling on the wet ground. There's a homeless camp right at the side entrance and while I empathize with their situation, the idea of going there at night makes me feel really uncomfortable. There's no staff in the warehouse and no direct line to reach them in the store if you have questions. Also, the unit I got had a rat trap in it which made me feel like I need to use plastic storage containers over cardboard. There was nothing else in it but nothing in the storage warehouse is clean. The floors need to be redone, there's tripping hazards everywhere. The units are dimly lit and There's no where you can run an Extension cord so you can see what you're doing in your unit without leaving the door open to let hallway light in. Again, not very private or secure. The bathrooms were clean atleast. I spoke to the staff about my issue with the door and atleast they offered to refund my payment for the month until my door can be replaced with something that's actually secure. I left there feeling like the people in charge of running this facility just simply don't care about the customer experience. I had my belongings stored there for 11 months. - When I arrived to move in, the unit which I had reserved had been given to someoe else. I ended up having to store my things in two separate lockers. My insurance had been applied to only one of them and I had to purchase a second lock. - At the beginning of this period, there were several mistakes made on my bill. I had to call to discuss these mistakes numerous times. The phone hold time was very long and each time I invariably ended up speaking to someone in Arizona. Each time I was told that I had to speak to directly to someone at the location. The locaton is filthy. - There is debris falling from the ceiling. My belongings were covered with tiny pebbles of something. When I was moving out, it was impossible to keep this debris out of my eyes. It is a very old building. I do not know what that material was but it could very well have been a poisonous subsance which was used in construction many years ago. - The floor inside my units was not level. It was impossible to safely stack boxes. The rows of boxes toppled down because there wss no level ground. - The floor inside my units were rough, dusty, and full of pot holes. Furniture and other items were damaged due to this. Some things are too heavy to lift. They must be pushed. It was impossible to move anything around without it catching on a pothole. I had to try to lift heavy items to get them dislodged from the pot holes. - The freight elevator system is the worst I have ever experienced. When I described it to a woman at the call centre in Arizona, she couldn't believe it. A person who is moving without assistance has to send items down, then run downstairs to catch it at the bottom. - There is no loading dock. Most places have a loading dock so that heavy furniture can be transfered to a truck without having to pick it up from the ground. This is very bad for human backs and can cause much damage. Both storage companies which I have used in the past not only had loading docks but they had covered/interior loading docks to protect against rain and snow. Here, your stuff goes down the elevator and straight into the rain. I have used two other public storage places in the past and I have never seen/experienced anything this bad. U-haul storage, although being the worst I have ever known was also the most expensive. Furthermore, other companies refund any unused portion of rental payment. They prorate the final bill. The code didn't work, and the desk clerk told me to just go there and the instructions for moving in should be in an email on my phone. While there were instructions, they weren't clear and didn't provide the correct way to enter the building with a code. We had to have a random dude let us into the facility. There were very few carts. No instructions on the elevator on how to use it. Since there was only one elevator, others in the unit unpacked all of their belongings in front of the elevator and left it full and unoccupied so others could not use it. The stairs were steep and narrow and I nearly fell down them several times. on my first day, the woman at the front desk explained where my unit was but when i asked if the access code was for after hours, she just said yes. The door was open so I didn't think anything of it. The door was locked on my second visit and I tried my access code on the keypad on the left and it said I was denied. Then I tried the keypad on the right and it greeted me but the door did not unlock. I tried several times to use the intercom on both keypads but got no response. Had to drive back to the main office (unit was in a different building out back) and explained what was going on. She looked puzzled, then reviewed security and THEN explained that I had to use both keypads and in the other order but wasn't very quick to hand me the instructions. I told her that she did not explain any of this to me on my first day and just stared at me. Even the instructions did not explain what I had to do when I was leaving but the sign on the door threatening to deny my entry on my next visit if I didn't do it right was very clear. Your front desk should at least have someone who is going to act professional, they are the "face" of your company! Also, there was a tag on my door stating that it was clean and ready but I couldn't get in until I removed the tag which was VERY difficult without scissors. I have been double charged for a storage unit end of January 2021 and despite contacting the branch on 3 occasions, twice in person the manager was too busy to sort out a refund of $186.00. Contacting g customer service didn't help either. After going over in detail again what happened and a promise they would sort out and me a refund. They did not call back and that was 12 days ago. Further, I vacated my storage unit and advised 3 people I had left. I received a late rent notice and a phone call yesterday asking me to pay again! No I would not recommend this branch at all, 8f 9t was their money out of their chequing account I am sure they would have sorted. You make us buy one of your locks, which I did. Bought a defective one that kept catching. Complained to staff about the problems opening the lock. Had Mitchell come and try it himself. He had both the key & the lock in his hands and deemed the lock defective. The latch seemed to catch on the inside of the casing and took a lot of time and struggle to remove each time. MJ would not let me exchange the lock. She kept saying that "how was she supposed to know that it wasn't my fault." "That I didn't drop it or damage it somehow." Absurd. I was only there for a short time & on this particular day, was moving everything out. Got it all, but 4 bags. Put the lock on and left. Was back yesterday morning to get the last 4 bags. I could not get the lock off and came to the office to try and get help. "Robert" at least acknowledged that if I could get it off, he would exchange the lock. Something that MJ refuses to do many times. I told Robert that my key was bending and i was concerned about not being able to get it off. Went back and kept trying and the key broke off. Went back to the office again and Robert said he'd come over and help. He first went into the office and got MJ who came out again and said that "for security reasons" they couldn't get the lock off for me." She blamed me over and over about the lock stating that I could have dropped it, etc. I am a professional woman in my 50's and didn't appreciate her accusations and lack of help. Not once did she apologize for the situation or offer any type of assistance. I asked about your lock cutting staff and she would not confirm that she would get assistance, and refused to allow "Robert" to help. I left and with a little bit of research, found a manager from another location who I had never dealt with before, who sympathized with my situation. This new manager shared with me how to get the broken piece out of the lock with a Bobbie pin and that I could then try my spare lock. Failing that, this new manager then gave me the number of the Hamilton location where upper management could arrange some help. I Googled that number and drove to Hamilton. "Tom" at this location called MJ for me and complained about their lack of customer service on my behalf. He inquired about a reason why they wouldn't help and they could not provide one for him. He got off the phone and went and talked to "Michelle" who authorized the u-Haul lock cutter, "Eric" to come and help and have me a new lock. While I drove back to St. Catharines and waited, he even called again to let me know when Eric would be there. Eric showed up around 9:30 and was extremely nice. He got the broken piece of key out and wanted to try the spare key himself. He had extreme difficulty getting the lock off with the key, too, ended up hurting himself while doing so and took the lock and keys with him.Judging on how my experience had gone to date, I went into the office to get a move out receipt from Robert before leaving. There is simply no excuse for this experience. MJ checked me into the locker, MJ rented me the van and took my drivers license, and MJ was there during every experience stifling her staff from helping me. I am extremely disappointed and baffled as to why a grown woman would be such a position, if she does not have the problem solving skills, or customer service skills to deal with these types of situations. Perhaps this position is too overwhelming for her and you need to re-examine your staffing at this location. Even a Manager whom I have never dealt with before, was able to offer assistance and direction. I had spent a lot of my time and frustration trying to get some assistance with a lock that U-Haul forces customers to buy and then does not stand behind their product. At least this Manager refuses to. In running my business, I could not even fathom speaking to one of my customers in the way that MJ handled this situation and is certainly not a good look for your company. The Vine street U-Haul has made significant upgrades and I support this friendly business. However, I recently chose the outside unit thinking it would be better for quick access etc (which it was). The unit leaked when it rained and there was evidence of rat feces on the stored boxes and floor. So first off I was told that I would receive a storage unit free for a month if I rented a truck from Niagara Falls and dropped it in St. Catharines which made it so I had to go all the way there considering i was in St. Catharines. The gentleman in Niagara Falls was very helpful and lowered my rate cause I didn't have to do that. So then I get to vine at location to find out that the storage unit I booked was indeed not on the main level which I had requested cause I can't walk stairs. When I called to open I was given the main level at 134.95 and told it was a promotion. When I arrived I was told it was not the main floor and that If I wanted a main floor unit I would have to pay 164.95. The employee was texting the manager and the reply was there's nothing I can do unless I pull up the call. So I said yes do that. Cause I'm not paying 164.95. So I waited. Half hr went by and they pulled a call. Was not my call about ordering. It was a call just inquiring on prices and info then she goes on to tell me that now they can't find the call when I ordered. Very convenient I must say. So needless to say I'm waiting on someone to rectify this issue or my stuff will be coming out of the unit after my 30 days and I will be going to another storage place and going to social media about how much they are unprofessional and lie to you obviously just to make a sale. I've been dealing with U-Haul for probably 25 yrs now and I see they have the money to expand to the factory next door and spend all that money but yet they cannot seem to fix the problem with the lift that was broken 3/4 or more of the time I showed up. And I don't know what is going on with the massive pot holes, and (ponds) of water throughout the parking lot. The parking lot is not exactly car friendly. I had multiple problems with the one employee basically calling me a liar about the lift and said"I don't want to have to get up to go show you how to use it" (quoted and I had someone with me who heard that also). Second time he said he wasn't working but was standing behind the counter and would not assist me. Big guy with a beard, serious issues, even with the woman who was helping me one day.
