Total nightmare !!! Was offered 1 month free for storage. I called to verify 2 days prior of move and was told everything was OK. And during conversation I ask what the price would be after 30 da6s if we still needed storage unit, the lady I spoke wi5h was very kind and we discussed a bigger unit and one just came available and I took that one. After move we went to unload at storage unit and was informed we had not reserved it , but it showed original reservation for storage unit. Come to find out it was not available. So we had to drive many many miles back to our daughter's home and that cost more gas to put back in uhaul plus car . My opinion about this situation is that this is poor communication and I will not use uhaul again , it cost me extra money that I couldn't afford to use and needless to say I was not able to get storage anywhere on Sunday and had to unload everything in my daughter's yard. The return process (with Regina and another lady, whose name escapes me) was confusing / convoluted - as they were having difficulty confirming the reservation / payment for my storage unit, which I thought was taken care of at check in. My mom, daughter and I were exhausted from loading the truck, so we were anxious to get unloaded and home for a shower - naturally our patience was wearing thin. Regina was unable to activate the card at check-in, so she told me to give her a 4-digit code that I would be able to use instead; however, when I pulled up and tried to use my code - ACCESS DENIED! We were eventually granted access to the gate, only to see a lock on the unit. By this time, its past COB and the store is now closed, so I called the number provided and subsequently ran into the other employee outside, who thankfully removed the lock before she left. Once we were granted access to the unit, my mom injured her finger on 2 EXPOSED screws dangerously jutting out of the door! I have pictures of the injury as well as the screws. I'd like to schedule some time to speak with GM Jessie Eaton to discuss the aforementioned issues and next steps. The online process was easy and user-friendly; however, when I arrived at the Gause location to check the truck out, the process took much longer than expected. I was being patient out of consideration for the desk agent (Regina), who informed me that she was new and had limited experience with the system. When I reserved the truck online, it was communicated that my first month of storage would be free with the truck rental, however Regina disputed that at check-in and was just having a difficult time navigating the check-in process and was getting help / training from her colleague. Other than the confusing check-in experience, the truck rental went pretty smoothly - returned early with less mileage than anticipated, refilled the gas, followed check-in instructions as directed and left the keys in the box. As I was arriving to pick up my truck the representative called to tell me that they couldn't find the keys to my truck. The dispatch team reset me to pick up a truck on Tulane Avenue. This was an unworkable situation as there was a football game at the Superdome and traffic was at a standstill in that area. This was sloppy and unprofessional. The saving grace was the representative at the store in Slidell who came up with an innovative solution.Theodore U.

So, about 2 weeks ago, I rented a U-Haul truck to move some furniture from my house to Abby's. It was a 10' moving truck advertised for $19.95. I even bought the safe move coverage for another $14.00. The contract was explained to me by Lyrae Kinchen as such.... One way from slidell to metairie with an estimated 35 miles or so. Any overage of miles will be charged at $1.00 per mile. We are putting a $100.00 hold on your card. Well, we loaded up the truck, drove straight to Metairie, unloaded it then dropped it off at the foot of the Causeway. I did surpass the mileage by about 9 or 10 miles, so they immediately charged my card. Well, one and a half weeks go by. The $100.00 comes out of the bank. I call U-Haul for my refund. She says give it a couple of more days. Call again if not refunded. I wait, no refund, call again except this time prompt days you have 1 hour wait time before you are answered. I hang up and try later. Same thing. So, I decide to GO to U-Haul and ask. The manager says, oh, one way? The cost of the truck then becomes $73.00. I said for 3 hours and 40 miles? That's ridiculous! I was NOT TOLD THAT when I came in to rent the truck. He then says, well had you driven it back to Slidell to return it, you would have been charged those extra miles, and quite frankly, you paid less by going one way. Oh boy, let's just say the 20something year old Ginger came back to life. Just fair warning, you will NOT pay the price on the truck when you rent from U-Haul. Warn you family and friends. It's a rip-off. Sorry for the long rant...Virginia J.

The door was opened for us by such a nice, young guy. The female clerk was so sweet, helpful and knowledgeable. It was such a smooth transaction with no problems and was very much appreciated. Same thing last year when I had them install a tow hitch for me.Susan P.
Made original reservations online. Called Twice to confirm. My son in law called a few days before he was to pick the truck up and they DID NOT have My reservation!!' This was a big mess and had to rearrange everything! EVERYTHING! Plans had to be changed at both ends of the move. At least I still have my storage unit reservation. Angie at the UHaul in Booneville, Ms. was very gracious, helpful and accommodating and at least in that end things went well. Obviously I am not a happy customer.l, especially having confirmed twice. I feel like I was taken Advantage of, I use the truck for one hour, when I filled up tank I felt like it was not full when I got it. It took me $25 to go 24 miles. Plus I had it for one hour and they charged me 20 something dollars extra because I returned it after hours but they locked the doors in my face. Allow debit cards for rentals of the pickup trucks and small vans. I do not have a credit card. I never buy on credit so I don't need it. Because of your policy I had to rent a truck much larger than needed with the extra expense of gas mileage. Your policy is unnecessary.Terry H.

My 15' truck was not at the Uhaul Dealer as reserved. Instead the system created 2 orders, one at the dealer at 1685 Gause Blvd in Slidell LA and another location farther away. This never happened before. Then neither me or the Dealer could not cancel the 2nd locations order in your crappy reservation system!!!!Mike K.
It was a hit and miss for me. In the beginning it was great and staff was very nice. But after the first couple weeks something changed. Some of the staff was indifferent and not customer friendly. There were over charges and three times they were still trying to charge me for the unit after letting them know that I was moving my washer and dryer out and no longer needing the storage on July 1st. They gave me the wrong truck and made me change before I left the lot. I left my wallet in original truck and was later notified when I was 30 miles away from the facility. Caused me a huge inconvenience for an already stressful day. It all could have been avoided if I would have received the correct truck in the first place. By the way they had me move out of 15' truck into another 15' truck. Given what happened as a result of the mistake a discount of some sort would have been the right thing to do.Jay H.

Didn't get to move in, because they did not have my unit available that I reserved online. Tried to put me in a nonclimate controlled with a broken light and you can see an open space between wall and ceiling. I reserved climate controlled. Then the lady helping me had an attitude first with well I done told you 50, 000 times what she had available and how it works online and what climate controlled and non climate control was. I did a reservation online to secure my climate controlled unit. When I got there, the lady showed me where jy unit was. She said it had a broken light. I am like ok. Then I ask her if it was climate controlled she said yes. And insaid it doesn't feel like it and also the wells a space in the unit that was not closed off, so air, critters, etc can get in. So again I asked about climate controlled. She said we have units with a/c but didn't have any available. Um isn't that what I reserved. So we go back inside. There were 2 small climate controlled units available but not the size I needed. So while she is looking she is again saying I told you like 50,000 times what the unit was and things to that nature. The lady helping me was arguing with me and saying I was condisending. So here it was 4pm on Friday and had to search for a new location. So now I have to wait for my refund. I wish I had known that I had to have a local ID and major card before I got a UHaul. I ended up only being able to rent a huge truck I didn't need and spent way more money than I was planning. Not the customer service reps fault, they were all perfectly fine, it just was an unfortunate experience overall with UHaul. The inside of the van did have a weird orange stain on the passenger side floor though, not sure what that was. Only issue I had with the equipment at all, the rest of it was perfectly fine. Lighting was only from the hallway, but the unit was clean and specious. The climate control was very good, even in the heat of July. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this location. One more thing. There are lots of units that are listed as second floor, but the loading ramp makes them equal to first floor storage. There are carts stationed to wheel your goods to the unit. The ramps are covered and well protected from the frequent rain in this area. Works very well.Errol O. | Overall Experience
By the time I got my truck unloaded and drove it up front, the staff noticed that something was wrong with me. They call d the paramedics, put my contract on hold, and I went to the hospital. Thank God they noticed my illness. I was suffering from heatstroke and my kidneys were shutting down. I spent 3days in the hospital. Thanks to the staff, Heather and Miranda, I am alive today. These girls went above and beyond and I believe that they should be rewarded for their outstanding work ethic and their kindness and caring for another human being. The receptionist was friendly but the information to find our storage unit was bad to horrible. The building was not mapped properly; and we wasted 30+ minutes, after asking and calling the employees the location of our unit and being told it's here then there. Afterwards, we discovered the the facility does NOT have an elevator or ramp but stairs to get to the upper unit. My only complaint was that after I purchased the upstairs storage area, insurance and lock. I had to inquire about the 24 hour access to the storage area. However since my initial payment was already processed, 24 hour access couldn't be added to my account until February. I had an exterior wall unit & the climate control was not adequate in that space. Despite signs that said the building was sprayed for pest control I regularly saw bugs (including cockroaches) around the building. I found termite wings in my unit also. Everytime I went to my unit there was dirt in the loading/unloading area. The lighting was fine in the hallways, but the outdoor & unit lighting is poor and with cameras only on the doors of the buildings, not inside, I believe it is sub-par for security. I moved out of my storage room but yet continued to receive notifications that I owed despite contacting UHAUL 4X.. They went as far as to contact my relative saying that I owed money WHEN I DID NOT OWE because I had already moved out! I waited a total of 30 minutes from the time I got to the U-Haul storage storefront to get into my storage unit. I had to pay the movers for this time because of the poor management at the desk. There was one women there and she was juggle 3 phones calls while trying to check me into my reservation. She was going back and forth to each call helping everyone at the same time(including me) but the problem was that she was only giving each customer a small portion of her time which meant we all had to wait an extra long time. Honestly, I should have been priority because I was physically there and I had a reservation. Having to pay the movers more money for U-Hauls problems made me the most angry. It cost me $35 extra dollars that I paid to the movers. I would like to be refunded this money from U-Haul since it was U-Haul's poor customer service that led to me spending that money. I have been renting from U-Haul for years and have spent $1,000's of dollars here, but this experience makes me want to go elsewhere.Samuel B. | First Impressions

Lyrae was very helpful from the time I pulled up. I have a small unit , she explained the size. I am interested in maybe getting a lager size after she explained that it's possible to upgrade to a larger unit when it becomes available. I misunderstood - thought I was getting one month free with a truck rental but she explained that because the truck was not a one way drop-off it was not qualified.
