I reserved a UBox here for an emergency move due to a death in my family. When I arrived, the guy at the counter was insistent that “he didn’t mess with UBox” and sent me to the Verona Rd location. To get there I needed to rent a truck, so I did so. The entire time, he was half-paying attention to a personal FaceTime call. When I returned the truck a few hours later, he was in his car with a friend, in U-Haul uniform, smoking weed. He told me to give him the key and I asked him if he was serious. He said yes, and since I’m running around between funeral events I gave it to him. We didn’t receive a receipt and when I checked the app the next morning, the truck was not marked as checked in. So we walked back to the location bright and early at 7am, when they opened. Except the dude wasn’t there. He didn’t get there until 7:20. Once again stoned and rude. Once again on a personal call, this time where he was being profane to a child about the child’s mother. When he finally hung up his personal call, he explained that he’d forgotten the key in his car (where he’d been smoking weed) and that’s why the truck hadn’t been checked in. Thank god it was a 24 hour rental otherwise I probably would’ve been charged late fees. When I said, I need a receipt please, he said “you don’t need to be so pushy.” Also I am a woman but he called me “dude, bro, boss, chief, brother,” basically everything you would not call a woman. This guy is not fit to work in any customer service position and I am telling all of my friends in the Madison area to run far far away from this place. I would sooner BUY a truck then ever deal with this guy again. Do not ever under any circumstances deal with this place. U Haul provides services to people who are in transition between major life events. It is stressful enough to move, period. It is more stressful when it’s for a funeral. I am incredulous at the level of unprofessionalism that we experienced here. I don’t normally say anything like this, but this guy needs to be fired. Or at the very least he needs supervision. It’s absolute madness.

I’m 6’4” and the positioning while I drove was too tight and uncomfortable for me. I was unable to adjust the chair further back, and I wish that there was a better, more comfortable way the seat could’ve been adjusted for someone my height.

I arrived at 8:15am to pick up my trailer rental, and there was only one U-Haul employee at the location. He was pleasant, but stated that the computer system was down, and then hooked up the trailer to my car and told me he would find me in the system when the computer was working. When I returned the trailer at 2:00pm, again, only one U-Haul employee (a different employee) was at the location -- the computer system was working, but he was busy with 2 other customers and told me I could just disconnect the trailer myself (which I did) and that he would check me out later when he had time. Later in the afternoon, I received an email from U-Haul stating that I have not yet picked up the trailer and that if I didn't do so soon, my reservation would be canceled -- so neither U-Haul employee (at pick up or drop off time) had entered any information about my trailer rental. So I called the U-Haul toll-free number, explained the situation, and was told I would be emailed a final receipt within a few hours. I was emailed a final receipt, and it included an additional $8.00 charge for insurance, which I did not consent to/select when I first made the reservation. I called the toll-free number again and requested an $8.00 adjustment/credit on my bill, and was told that I had originally selected the insurance (which I did not), that my refund request would be entered, and that I would be called by U-Haul within 3 business days if they decide not to issue an $8.00 credit.

The gentleman at the location I picked up the truck at (W Washignton Ave) was very kind and courteous. Even though he was extremely busy, as he was working alone, and the system was giving him a hard time. I am disappointed in UHaul though and the gal I spoke to on the phone Friday. I reserved online weeks in advance at a location 3 miles from my old and new apartments (right in the middle). The day before my reservation, I was told they had to switch both the vehicle size AND the location. The gal that I spoke to argued with me about the new location being out of my way, telling me they aren’t far apart. While I acknowledge that the mileage difference wasn’t “a lot” (about 10 miles more), it’s still more of a cost due to miles and gas. Since customers are required to pay mileage, when you change the reservation location due to overbooking your vehicles, you should be discounting mileage or at least the excess mileage.

The manager called me after making my reservation on line and was so friendly and helpful to see if I had questions or concerns. If I ever needed storage space again I would totally go through U-haul!

I am a retired software engineer. I went through the misery of spending two hours with your customer service reps trying to access the code to get my keys for the van I had rented. It turned out that you had switched the reservation numbers with another future rental. The online system for getting keys is awful, the wait time for customer service was awful, the customer service process was awful. I have rented from this location during business hours and the service is good. It is the online key retrieval system that is awful, awful, awful. Actually, I would hope that you would have the decency to refund my entire rental bill as a result of this administrative nightmare.

This is the second time at this location. Both times. No one was around. 7 am and 8 am pick up. I wonder around looking around for someone outside and inside. No other customers there. Ended up calling phone number both times. This time guy came from back room. Never acknowledged me at all. Not a hello or how can I help you. Just walked up to counter and stared at me until I said something. Like he was brother I was there. I got my trailer and went. Then when I dropped off trailer. Got almost same attitude. Why was I there. With a bad tone in his voice. “Just unhook it and leave it where ever, I check it whenever I have time.” One person there ahead of me. No one outside no trailer or truck that look like they were dropped off. I did hear him say to the girl in front of me. I going to be U-Haul fault or something like that. I don’t care because I not going to be working here. He was giving her an attitude. And making you sound bad. It was 4 different people that I dealt with each time. All were not good. All seemed like they didn’t want this job. If U-Haul wasn’t the only place really. Would 100% go somewhere else. Any that ask me. I would tell them to look around.

Rented a 6 x 12 trailer. Pulled up to return area, waited a few minutes, someone finally came out and "Just drop the trailer there and you can go". I'm 65 those trailer tongues are heavy! plus I don't do this everyday - young man never offered to help.

We had originally scheduled a vehicle to be picked up at a more convenient location closer to where we needed to take it to be loaded. The guy checking us in generously added miles to our quoted commitment. The truck was ready to go but we had difficulty finding the truck at the location (of course the last one we found). Your mobile app and after hours pick up were a complete and total disaster. The worst experience I've ever had trying to rent anything anywhere. I am STILL waiting for my refund. I was unable to procure the truck I had rented after about a solid hour of trying, and through NO FAULT OF MY OWN.

We quite literally had to loop in local law enforcement after the interaction we had with one of your employees. This was the worst customer experience both my partner and I have ever had. Please, for the sake of your business but more importantly your customers, keep your employees in check. We will never be using this location or U-Haul services again.

I was given a trick with less than 1/8 tank of gas and told to put gas in it and if I brought it back at 1/4 of a tank I would get a $7.50 credit! What a scam. I was then given a truck with full gas tank after complaining. The last thing I want to do is drive a truck off the lot to find a gas station. And the storage facility was filthy.

The straps on car trailer straps we rented did not work so we were unable to transport the car we intended to. We got the trailer rent refunded, but still had to pay for the truck rental to pull it and gas. Not at all a satisfactory experience. We spent $100 for the truck and $43 for gas and had a thoroughly frustrating experience.

The pickup truck I rented was nearly new. However, it was not washed (looked like the previous customer went 4-wheeling in it--all muddy) and the tires were low on air (I had to add air myself). I do appreciate U-Haul's simple and fast service; renting from you is always easy and quick. And usually the equipment is clean and well-maintained. But sometimes oversights happen. I can understand that. Thanks for all you do!

Workers were courteous. Reserved a unit but none available despite reservation. Offered me a “cage” on the basement and it was horrible. Actually cancelled my reservation and luckily the nice employee understood and refunded me (still awaiting receipt). Wasn’t desperate enough to use that dump and probably would have resulted in trashing all my things.

I payed for a parking spot for my car. You towed my car from the spot I payed for and did not contact me about it. You cost me thousands of dollars and would not answer your phone after calling repeatedly.

Moving day in Madison is so difficult, but the workers at this UHaul made it genuinely so much more manageable. They were consistently helpful and thoughtful, as well as thoroughly professional. They were happy to give advice when I asked and made the process go smoothly. I had a storage unit as well as a van and the storage unit was accessible 24/7 which made it so much easier to work after the heat of the day had subsided. The van was clean and convenient and ready immediately. Thank you, UHaul!

They show pictures of beautiful clean storage units with those bright orange doors. Most of their units are in the "basement" with concrete floors, mouse traps in the units, mold/water damage on the back wall of the unit, all in metal caged fences. When I walked in, the staff were rude to the customer in front of me. Told him "they only thing you can do is 800 Uhaul". I went up next, and was told my unit wasn't ready at 10am. Came back in 2 hours, still wasn't ready. Came back in 1 hour and finally was given my unit. The lady was friendlier by then. Another woman was on the phone with someone she knew and eating chips while customers were waiting. One workers' young daughter was in with a "sitter" hanging around. Then I saw this worker go out the front door and use her dab pen. My suggestion is a rental unit should be booked until the end of the month at 12am! Then the next reservation for the month starts on the 1st when they open! This place needs a little restructuring!

I want to note, the staff that helped me with my on Friday were friendly, helpful and professional. The guy on Saturday was rude, unprofessional, and unhelpful to myself and every other customer. I moved furniture into my storage unit and the elevator doesn’t work, which is something that should’ve been mentioned before I got the unit.

There only 1 MAIN issue I have. There is an old style elevator and its almost never working. Also its a manual type which make it very hard to use. It would be great if it was electric instead, but mainly every time I went there it was NOT working at all.. Especially people tend to move bulky heavy things so an electric one would be a necessity in my opinion.

The basement storage unit that I used for three months over the summer must have had a water leak and so when I went to retrieve my items the ground was covered with mold. I lost all of my furniture.

The basement storage is just how the place is set up. There may be other areas but we’re not available. Did not find the basement appealing Hated the rope elevator. Moved to another Staff was great

The fact that it was even proposed to convert a building with a manual freight elevator into storage space is absurd. If I'd known that particular in advance, I wouldn't have rented the space.
