Despite my glowing review I have a HUGE BONE to pick with you, U-Haul. I booked my appointment online and picked the Costa Mesa location. This is near where I was going to use the truck. When I went to pick up the truck, IT WASN'T THERE!!!! They told me it was in Huntington Beach, 7.4 miles away. Why wasn't I told the truck wouldn't be where the email said it was? The confirmation said, "Pickup Location: Costa Mesa (with the address listed that I went to). The Costa Mesa store clerk told me, "Oh, that's just your PREFERRED location. It says so in the fine print." I said, no, I saw no fine print, and nothing on your website or in the confirmation email said this was the PREFERRED Location. It just said, "PICKUP LOCATION:" She was not apologetic and did not offer to make it right in any way. I asked if they could pay for the 15 extra miles I would have to drive in your truck just to get back to where I needed it, and she said no she couldn't do that - maybe they would at the Huntington Beach store, but she didn't know and couldn't promise anything. I am not dinging her so much as saying - this is horrid customer service. This means I got to pay an additional 15.8 miles of mileage round trip, at $0.89/mile, PLUS GAS, PLUS TIME WASTED, PLUS WASTE MY HELPER'S TIME on top of all that!! Do you see the problem here??? Perhaps there was some tiny print somewhere that stated the truck would not necessarily be where I booked it - I looked carefully before reserving it and nothing came up to that effect. I defy you to prove it was there - it wasn't. If this was the case, the fact should have been listed in LARGE PRINT, NOT SMALL PRINT, so the customer knows they are not necessarily picking up the truck where the customer chose. It should, in fact, say, "DESIRED LOCATION (We'll try to make sure your vehicle is there; if not, we'll locate one in a nearby U-Haul." Did your website say that ANYWHERE? No. Did ANYONE call me, text me, or email me before my reservation time to tell me the truck wasn't where the email confirmation said it was? No. So I got to drive to your Huntington Beach store, wasting precious time that I needed to get some things done - when in fact I could have driven directly to the Huntington Beach store directly from my house had I known - what a stupid waste of my time over lack of communication on your part. The only good here, is that the guys at the Huntington Beach location were understanding and comped me the mileage. At least some people have a little grace. But I got to pay for the extra gas on my dime. Please take a look at this carefully. I wasted a lot of time and frustration on this stupid lack of communication on your part. You should not trust in the grace of your employees to make your business run smoothly. Do better. MikeMichael P.

The location employees and manager were excellent. U-Haul corporate should be ashamed of themselves. Worst service ever, first of all, made a reservation with corporate, requested a 26 foot truck for 4 days at the Lake Forest location, received a phone call from corporate that they could not fulfill my request, they told me that if I wanted a 26 foot truck I would have to pick it up in Huntington Beach, however it is 25 miles away, that is an additional 50 miles @ $1.39 a mile. I asked the corporate representative if the Lake Forest location had a 20 foot truck for the 4 days, they stated that a 20 foot was available, the confirmed that reservation. The day prior to the rental reservation time I received a text stating the 20 foot truck will be available in Huntington Beach. I telephoned corporate and they stated that the text was not correct and to pick up the truck in Lake Forest. I arrived at the Lake Forest location to find that they did not have a truck available and if I wanted a truck, I had to go to Huntington Beach, I called corporate and they said they would not waive the additional mileage charge. So now I am out $70.00 in mileage charges due to their mistake and 7 gallons of fuel, $28.00, so I got screwed out of $98.00 and 2.5 hours of my time. Well that is not all, on the last day of rental 4:30 pm, the truck failed to run. I had to borrow a friends truck, unload this truck and rush to my storage unit, during this stressful time of unloading the broken truck, I waited 37 minutes on hold with U-Haul corporate to dispatch road service, they advised me that if I failed to stay with the truck that I would be liable for tow charges. Whatever that meant. The manager even confirmed that. I told them to pound sand and continues to the storage facility to unload my items at the storage unit. Well it took 4 hours for help to arrive, they gave me a broken truck, and wanted me to wait with the legally parked truck for 4 hours. Tow truck arrived, could not get it running and towed it to the repair shop. U-Haul corporate has the worst service ever. The only person sympathetic was the Manager at the Huntington Beach location, U-Haul corporate treated me as a number and bullied me.RANDALL E.

Nothing, the experience was perfect. Installation was efficient and they communicated well with me. They were honest and went over the installation with me. They even worked with me to make sure I had the best equipment for my needs, even though it ended up saving me money. This is exactly what great customer service looks like.William K.

I just want to let you know how great of an experience I had with U-Haul (2 locations). First off, I went to the U-Haul by my house at 2680 Newport Blvd, Costa Mesa, CA to get a truck for the next day. They didn't have any trucks available, so they searched other local U-Hauls for a truck for me. They made me a reservation and I picked up my truck the next day. It was clean and the staff was very friendly. My only small issue would be returning the truck after hours. This was the second time that the link to return after hours gave me an error message. So I had to call the 800 number one time (waited 25 minutes for a live person but then hung up) and do the chat feature. This time I just did the chat feature to let them know I was returning. Great experiences at 2 of your facilities. Thanks. BradBRAD H.

The guys did an excellent job. There were existing issues with my wiring (from another vendor) which they resolved at no additional charge. There was a slight hick-up with a loose wire, but they diagnosed quickly and repaired while I waited. Thanks guys!!!Greg G.

The employees were nice. The process was terrible. Got the truck way back in the corner of the lot and took 30 minutes to move all other trucks that were in the way. Would have been better if the website gave me a truck that was not blocked in. 2nd I got the truck with zero gas in it. Had to go straight to the gas station. Took a picture of the gas level when I picked up the truck thank goodness. When I dropped the truck off they asked me to pay a surcharge for gas. No I gave them back with more gas than I got it with. The process was terrible took too long, and trying to penny pinch me after I gave them more gas than I started with.Jarid A.
