Very disappointed!!!!!!! We booked a moving truck months in advance only to be told one day befor pickup that we would have to drive2 hours to another city to get the truck. This took 4 hours off of our cleaning time and increased moving day stress 10 fold. The cost to us... $410 off the damage deposit, estimate $15-20 for gas in the vehicle that deliverd me to the pick up location, that is significant. It could have n=been worse, if we did not have the suite empty by the allotted time we would have paid an additional months rent - we had it empty with 1.5 hours to clean. UHaul should have made arrangements to deliver the vehicle to Nanaimo and saved us the cost and time for this inadequacy of planning on their partDaryl P.
The people I dealt with were great. The young man at the desk when we picked up the truck was super. The previous customer who used the truck did not fill with gas (only 1/4 tank), there were no straps for securing our load. There was no light for inside the cargo area for working into the hours of darkness.mark N.

Had to use road side assistance as one of the tires went flat. Great service but I think the trailers should be equipped with a spare for long trips. If we had gotten the flat along the Coquahala Highway, it would have been a while for someone to show up. Luckily, we had a spare tire and made it to our destination, then roadside assistance came to the house to fix.Karla W.

This is the worst u haul I've ever been to. I drove over 16 hours plus a 2 hour ferry ride to come pick my u haul that I reserved with my credit card. When I got there they said they cancelled the reservation a few days prior. They didn't even send me an email to tell me they were cancelling. After complaining they gave me the only other vehicle they had which I had to pay more for. While trying to pay for my trailer I put two pops on the counter to purchase with my truck. I straight out said Id like to buy these too. After handing me the receipt I turned to leave and the man stopped me and my friend rudely and said "are you going to pay for those" he made us feel like thieves. had to wait a long time for check in since it is in a store and they kept serving customers but what burned me was them charging 2.33 a ltr for gas when the current price is 1.89 they also would not allow us to park there even though we were only making just over an hour move so yes when it comes u=out to 103 for a moved 12 kms away and back it is steepsean M.

This location was well maintained, and the guy running it does a good job. Horrific experience with the online booking though. Ended up costing me an extra $50 between added mileage and gas to drive out to this location for the truck, and took 4 hours longer than expected with the miscommunications and commuting to/from the location! I would have made alternative plans and had a better experience moving if the online reservation system was more clear...Troy S.
I booked the cargo van for 9 AM pick up and didn't got the truck until 10AM and unfortunately I have to return it by 11 as the person i am meeting waited for me and then left for the day as i am late. So my time money n fuel just wasted. And at the end unfortunately I have to return the truck as its of no use. As i missed the opportunity. When i booked the truck they say we have you reservation and online check -in so if we unable to cater we will reimburse you Credit. Hopefully i should get my money back and the inconvenience reimbursements. I usually reserve u haul however this time my experience wasn't great full. Regards' Ritish Thank you.Ritish S.

Truck had only an eighth of gas in the tank and the tires were summer tires knowing full well that we were going north vehicle got stuck in the snow several times no chains were available with the truck the back of the truck was dirty and muddy getting all of our contents dirty and muddy and I was given a fuel credit of like $28 do you say to make up the difference to get to a quarter tank and $28 doesn't even move the needle you should've taken more like 60 bucks to get it up there so I think some money should be coming back to me and the service at the location where I picked up was ridiculous it was one guy working a grocery store kind of a setting and trying to deal with his regular customers and trying to deal with U-Haul rentals took about an hour and a half further for us to finally get a rental and get out of there and like I said for a big 26 foot truck it's actually 33 feet cording to Bc Ferries Cook thank youLanny H.

The previous driver was 3 hrs late but the staff helped me out and also gave me a discount. It was out of their hands. It was stressful but not their fault. The two workers their were very nice.Sheldon H.

The checkout process was terrible. The system did not accept the picture on my driver's license, which was perfectly legitimate. The agent kept saying "sorry I can't rent the truck to you because the system doesn't work". It took about an hour and a lot of persistence for a second agent to finally figure out a way. I needed the truck desperately otherwise I would have walked away. Bad experience.Attila F.

The employees at the Goldstream food market would stop helping me to serve walk in customers buying cigarettes who arrived after me. With the self check in process, the constant interruption of service, my 9am rental wasn't mine to use until 945am, even though I arrived at 0845, and completed all online options 0/10.BRYAN M.

This is not a 1 star review for the Goldstream Market location. They were fantastic and understanding. I give them a 5 star review. This is a 1 star review for the Topaz locaton. We reserved a 20' truck a month in advance with the Topaz location to be picked up at 9am on the day of our move.15 minutes before our pickup time on the day of our move U-Haul calls to tell us they don't have our truck, but that there would be a 20' truck available to us at 3:30pm or we could drive out to Langford and pick up a 10' truck right away. Due to time constraints we had no choice but to use the 10' truck. The additional driving and smaller truck that required multiple loads added more time to our move and inconvenienced us greatly. The only compensation the Topaz location could offer us was that they were sorry and would discount our mileage. We were very dissatisfied with this compensation and definitely will not recommend U-Haul to anyone.Evan C.

Discrepancy between website and location. Website states that a Debit/CC and Debit and Cash are accepted for payments along with the same for deposit. Unfortunately, the location stated they only accept Credit Cards. No Debit credit. They also stated that the pin pad machine was "taken away" only Credit card. Even for paying they advised they only take credit card when I wanted to pay my bill by cash or debit. Frustrating when the website for uhaul states differently.Heather C.

U-Haul changed my pick up and drop off location 15km away without contacting me. I was sent an email that didn't tell me there was a change. No phone call. No text. We wasted 1.5 hours for pickup because it took 30 minutes to even get to see someone at the original location in the first place. Than an hour to get to the new location and pick up. Next, the back door got jammed because the cable were not rolling.up correctly. Another 45 minutes wasted to figure it out. Called roadside assistance. They took an hour to get back to us. We made the decision to release the cables and prayed we would be able to open the door again. I was paying my laborers 110 per hour so dealing with U-Haul cost me an additional $220 in labour. I will never again rent from U-Haul for truck or car rental because the service and the equipment both failed on a day that is already incredibly stressful. The person at the goldstrean location was very kind and polite and he is the exception. The topaz location is understaffed and they lied about calling and texting us. I have cell phone records that no voicemail was left and no text was received. Apologies for the rant. But it was a terrible experience all around.Frederick B.
So, I reserved a van at the topaz location a week ago, only to be turned away and made to wait an hour well 8+ other people dealt with the same thing. The gold stream location was good, and easy but the topaz Location was a nightmare. You wasted my time, made me drive around the city looking for a option. The truck had not been cleaned and stunk of cigarette smoke. I couldn't give an inspection report of the truck before Ieft because it was online and I didn't have data on my phone. The truck was supposed to have 1/4 tank of gas but I realised when the low fuel warning sounded about a km from pickup that it was only at an eighth. I still had to pay for the extra gas upon return. The truck seemed to have steering issues even empty and was quite concerning. This was my first experience renting from UHaul and it will be the last.Rona C.
Got to topaz location, they didn't have the truck we reserved (how this is possible without a heads up before we got there on moving day is beyond me). Ended up getting sent to another location with a smaller truck (great, now we have to do two loads from Victoria to Comox instead of just the one with the bigger truck). Got the truck, the gentleman who owned this location was very kind. The truck itself was a total mess.. food and cans throughout the cab, the back of the uhaul was covered in drywall and drywall dust that now coats everything we had to put in the truck. To say I'm disappointed in my experience with U-Haul would be an understatement.Thomas U.

I was sent to this location because the Topaz location did not have my reserved truck available. This meant I had to order a cab to get to the Langford location and was late to work due to this delay. The Topaz representative promised a discount, which was not initially applied due to a delay in the computer system on the Langford end. While I ended up getting the truck, this was overall a stressful and unacceptable experience. If I reserve a truck ahead of time, I expect it to be available at the time of pick-up, instead of having to pay for a taxi across the city to fix U-haul's error. I don't fault any individual employees, but am thoroughly unimpressed with u-haul's deliberate overbooking system, as this is not the first time this has happened.Patricia T.

Windshield of Uhaul was completely covered in a layer of ice. I was quite frustrated to realize that no snow brush/scraper was provided in the cab of the truck to remove ice and snow. Instead I was left with no other choice but use a credit card to scrape it off. Uhaul trucks should also be equipped with all season tires that at least have certification for winter driving. With driving conditions being slick and snowy, the truck did not maneuver well. This could be extremely dangerous for others who are not familiar operating a large vehicle, let alone driving in snowy and icy conditions.Gwendolyn T.

There was no clearly identified drop box for the key. At 12:15 AM, I searched for almost 30 mins. When I called uHaul for help it was a wait time of 15-20 mins, which ended up being longer. The online chat experience was not good. I was told to leave the van unlocked with the key inside. It was implied that I would be responsible if anything happened to the van overnight. There was no help to find a drop box. Eventually I had to take they key with me and I was told to return the next day. This would have been a 45 km round trip inconvenience to drop off the key. When uHaul called, I had already driven away. I was put on hold for another 5 mins before I could talk to an agent. Finally I was told where to find a lock box. I drove back to the drop off point and found the lock box but by this time it was almost 1:00 AM. This uHaul location is in terrible shape. It is dirty, disorganized and not clearly marked for keys. It really does a disservice to UHaul's reputation.FABIAN D.
