Everything was fine until the left mirror fell off in my partners arms as she tried to swivel it out of the way of a lamp in my driveway when backing up ! I brought it to the attention of Nick who took the mirror..said he would deal with it then didn't ! The next day “Mike” at the store started to grill me about it! I said it's on Nick ! Not only that but I could of gotten into an accident on hwy taking 10'truck back as I didn't have a mirror to look into while night driving on hwy! Not saying it's uhaul fault but check everything including mirrors when people returning trucks and trailers ! Could of been person before me! Just saying lucky the mirror 🪞 didn't giggle off while I was driving on hey and lucky it was while backing up in my driveway ! Just saying

It was a fairly smooth pickup, they forgot the dolly I ordered but I asked to substitute a furniture one and they obliged. But it went quick and they were helpful.

Be more friendly. Show the customer the vehicle - help them locate it! We had to go round into the yard to find it ourselves, then pull it out if it's very tight parking space (between a shed and a private old truck) ourselves to check the vehicle over. When we returned the vehicle the agent was a different guy. He was not very friendly at all. I had a query about the final bill total as it was higher than expected. All he would say was I will print off the reception you can look at it. TBD vehicle itself was excellent though it should have been swept out prior to our picking it up. Also when we picked up the vehicle fuel was just above half but the agent didn't say anything to us about fuel on return. On the whole a little more customer service and friendliness would go a long way!

I reserved a 15 foot truck several weeks before my move. The day prior, I was called by the location and the agent informed me they only had 10 foot trucks. He said that if I wanted a 15 foot one, I would have to go to a different location. Recognizing that I have to pay per KM, I opted to go for the smaller truck. Now I have to go back, borrow a pickup truck and pick up excess furniture that did not fit in the smaller truck. On your website when I reserved, the banner said "your reservation is guaranteed or it's free". I did not get the truck I reserved and believe this location did not fulfill the order that I was promised. I am now out over $80 and have to make an additional trip. I am very unimpressed.

Poor customer service. There was no key drop off for after hours and no instruction on what to do with the key. So the truck didn't get stolen, I locked the key in the vehicle so it'd be safe over night. This location is trying to charge me for the locksmith. It is ridiculous that they don't have a second key or a key return system. Very dissatisfied.

This rental location is virtually the opposite from our pick-up location. The rental vehicles are crammed into a tiny space behind the building, and the rental location itself is cramped, crowded and understaffed - we waited 30 min - 1 hour in the times we have had to visit this location to drop off or rent a vehicle. The people at the desk are knowledgeable and provided us with a small discount for the mileage on drop-off; however, they do not inspect the vehicles after drop-off, so in picking up another U-Haul vehicle later we found it to be very muddy and without the noted gas amount. When we returned the vehicle and explained our experience, it took a great deal of persuasion before they provided us with a discount. We will not likely visit this location again.

My experience at the Goldstream location was excellent. The person who helped us was delightful and very helpful. However, I would like to rate U-Haul in general as my experience with the mistakes made with the booking system and agent on the phone was VERY POOR. I booked a 10 ft. truck online and received confirmation of this booking. On that basis I made a ferry reservation. The next day I was told there was no 10 foot truck at our location. I was sent to a town 40 minutes away to get a 10 foot truck. Upon arriving at that location we discovered there was no 10 foot truck. We had to take a 15 foot truck which changed our ferry status, increased our ferry cost, and resulted in my daughter having to drive a 15 foot truck.

It had snowed recently (two days before my rental) and the truck was in a muddy/slushy un paved yard and had to clean the snow off it.

The staff at Goldstream Market were very good, but your digital system needs serious work. Despite having used U-Haul for years, my phone number was flagged as having issues in the US thereby preventing me from renting after I had already reserved the truck and was all ready to go. Setting aside the confusion over my phone number (which required ages to solve!), what confuses me is why did the system allow me to reserve in the first place if there was a flag on my account. I wasted hours resolving this, it disrupted both where I was moving to and from, and generally added a lot of stress and confusion to my day. You should be able to differentiate between American and Canadian numbers somehow so that this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Location had barely any room to park. Bigger issue was that uhaul changed the drop off location on us, so once we figured that out and changed course to the new drop off location we were late and I was unfairly charged a late fee.

They're a busy store and trying to serve their customers while dealing with a very long process for U-Haul. I find them very helpful and they do the best they can but also try not to upset their regular clients. A little customer respect is important as they have a lot of procedures to ensure that you get what you requested and that it's not going to cost you anything later when damage is discovered. If you're patient with them they're wonderful group of people to deal with. Just make sure you have time and respect their regular customers. I love this location because they're local friendly people.

1. Explain that they will need to man handle the unit to a location that their vehicle can reach. No help available. 2. Make sure you have RV 7 pin to 4 pin adapter available. 3. Bring your own Locks if parking in unsecured location. 4. Measure trailer overall length ahead of time, before booking Ferry. Measurements are not available on line and two locations could not supply that info. That is, no one would go out and measure it. 5. Don't expect a credit for returning early, even if they request an early return to help another customer.

Our battery kept trying to die. When I called about it the said it was gonna take 60 minutes to get a tech out. I had to move today and didn't have 60 mins to wait. We had to leave the vehicle running as to not cause it to die. Which cost us extra gas. When I called to ask about reimbursement they said it was on the puck up location. When returned the pick up location Said it was all through you.... will never use again. I am fuming

Plus easy U Haul online access process for Seniors learning online services such as I and a U Haul business in Western communities is an another great reason why liked being reside in rural areas. I was disappointed that when I tried to call (several times) that it would just ring and then automatically hang up. Then it offered to pre fill all of my information (which I thought would make things easier) and showed a short video on how to pick up my vehicle. That video was not exactly the same process as played. Finally after waiting to be verified by my phone through the website I got the code to the lock box where my key was supposed to be and there wasn't one. So when I clicked on issue it asked me to contact the location but when I tried contacting by phone to inquire as to where it was (again no answer) so I had to call another location to find out what to do as the lock box was in the entrance of a barber shop. I then found out the market actually was in charge. Finally got it figured out 45 mins later and was on my way. When I read the cost it said .99 per km used but my vehicle was actually in miles so I was really charged 1.99 per mile which was $10 more than by km. Luckily now I knew the store was in charge that I was aware to who to give my key to and confirm mileage etc. This was probably my fault for not reading fine print somewhere but if for some reason I need to rent a truck in the future I will use a different location where I could speak or see a representative.

Worst customer experience! The store owner was late to open up and rude when I was in the store. I was scheduled to have the trailer from 9-11. It wasn't hooked up to my truck until 9:30. When I made a comment about potentially being late on my return time due to him being late opening, he was rude and said “DO YOU WANT FOR 24 HOURS!”. Will never use this location again or recommend. Very unprofessional!

I would not recommend U-Haul, especially this location. The booking process was easy and the van itself performed flawlessly. But after returning the van fully refueled and clean, it went downhill from there. I handed in the keys, showed the clerk a photo I had just taken of the odometer which he entered into his computer, and he told me all was good and that I would get a receipt by email. I left the location and the next morning during my work shift, got the email. The receipt showed a charge more than double expected and showed that the van had been returned only an hour ago (ie: a day later) and had higher mileage and had been short on fuel, all of which were charged to me. I called the toll-free number immediately and was told this "error" would be looked after. I was charged an extra day + extra insurance, extra kms, extra fuel, and tax. It took well over a month and a couple of calls before I finally saw a refund. And that refund was for the extra day, but failed to refund the fuel charge and extra kms. At that point, after about 5 or 6 weeks wait, I just wrote off those extras as "lesson learned", never do business with that company again. This was initially a good experience, but in the end was a very stressful and unpleasant experience. Clearly, someone else had used the van after I had turned it in. Whether U-Haul has lax systems in place for keeping track of who has their vehicles, or lax systems to prevent fraudulent charges to customers' credit cards, it doesn't matter to me. I would understand if the overcharge had been an innocent error and was fixed immediately, but the fact this dragged on and that I did not get refunded all the money I was due makes it impossible to trust this company for my next rental needs.

'Mom's Attic' was quite dirty and I needed to use one of the furniture pads to protect my furniture from getting dirty. The cab of the truck was 'just okay' but like other u-hauls I have had in the past, not much attention is being placed on cleanliness. The windshield was cleaner on the outside than the inside and it looked like it had been wiped with a wet rag and then left to dry with a spotty film. Please, please, please encourage more care on this as it is a safety hazard to drive with a dirty windshield, especially in rainy conditions when it is hard to see.

Horrible experience. The company itself has good customer service when calling the main 1800 number, staff is friendly etc. But the nightmare begins once you deal with the merchant. I only had 1 option as I live in Langford BC, and the only merchant is Goldstream Food Market (Merchant ID I have tried calling multiple times as I wanted to verify my time and truck as I was picking up on Sunday. The guy that answered was extremely rude, was not even answering any questions. In his words: if you ordered a truck online it will be here, and then hung up. I called multiple times afterwards, as well as a few days beforehand to make sure everything was in order, and again same guy answered and basically told me to get lost and hung up the phone again. One good thing was that I did get the truck. But again, dealing with that merchant was a nightmare...super rude, he even wanted to charge me an extra 15$ as my gas meter was not at the same level. I even filled up more than what I started with before bringing back. Overall, a very bad experience. Next time if I do rent a uhaul I will suck it up and pick up and drop off at a different location, even though it will cost extra. This merchant should definitely not represent uhaul in my opinion. There was no place to park my car at the u haul location and I was driving from Sooke on my own. I had to find street parking a good two or three blocks away and lug moving blanket etc in the rain to the location. I was drenched and my arms were sore from lugging the stuff. I was given the key and directed to the back to get the van. The trucks were parked so close to each other that I would have had to squeeze my way between them and get my clothes wet and dirty from rubbing against the trucks and then squeeze through the door that had no room to swing open. I had to walk back into the store and tell the employee that I could not access the truck due to inadequate space between them. Another employee got the van out for me and took it around to the parking in front of the store. My time was wasted with all this rigamarole. If they are going to jam the trucks in the back lot like this they should be pulling them out and parking them in front for the reservation time instead of standing around smoking and being innattentive. The van was clean, modern and a pleasure to drive. The gas meter pointed to 1/4 tank at the start but the contract indicated somewhere between that and 1/2. It's on the paperwork. I took a photo of the gas meter and showed it to the employee when I returned the van.
