The problems were as follows: U-Haul switched my location to a location roughly 15km away through busy traffic. Driving to pick up the truck and bring it to my house took over an hour. I booked three weeks early but the switch still happened. U-Haul switched my truck to a 20 foot truck which was too big. I didn’t need to drive a huge truck. Too many text messages and emails with various updates, messages, requests, etc. I upload my drivers licence when I booked but had to do it again at the location. At drop off I was informed I had exceeded my mileage limit and had to pay extra. The reason I had exceeded the limit was because I had to drive so far to pick it up! Didn’t matter. I was then supposed to get a discount for all my trouble but that hasn’t happened.

I was in and out within half an hour. What needs to improve is when I do online check in with all my details and get asked about whether I want services like insurance etc...I supoose its confirmation which is less hassle than getting charged for something you didnt want but as a regular renter it grinds my gears a bit. Perhaps a more streamlined system for regular renters?

SARVEN GULThere are more affordable, bigger units, and those with elevator access available at competitors. U-haul storage was not my first choice, but due to limited time to move-in and return the truck I opted for a more expensive, smaller unit, and without elevator access, instead of going to the competitor. If I had more time, I would have opted for another storage facility.

My boxes were damp and right from my first day there I had a terrible time trying to close the locker door (I also had two friends attempt to close it and both struggled as well). Additionally, every time I opened the door or shut it a bunch of sawdust (our what I believe to be sawdust would fall on me). The containers were not in good condition and I was not willing to risk having my stuff in there during the Winter months.

David-Alan Love | Overall ExperienceI was given an all-in price on the phone and I arrived with my own lock which was a high quality lock. When I came in to rent the van body, I was told I was required to purchase and use a Uhaul lock. That lock was junk and did not even secure through all three portions of the van body door fastener (but my own lock did). The staff were rude on several occasions. additionally, I was taken for the first time, on a golf cart, to see the unit, the driver smashed the roof of the cart on the opening garage door and debris flew at me. The ‘gold’ lock that goes on the left side of the unit is also a joke. One swing of a tack hammer would open it. Obviously this is just a means of pressuring people into paying more for 24 hour access in addition to forcing people to buy a crappy uhaul lock. The location is not secure and my unit leaked, damaging a $4000 mechanical massage chair. I have, over the years, rented many, many uhaul trucks, mostly for business purposes, but sometimes for personal use (as I did to fill up my vanbody storage rental). I did not rent from uhaul when I emptied it out. Because of your unfair, gauging policies, rude staff, inadequate facilities and the generally poor service (staff would not even provide me a paper receipt a email only) uhaul has lost my business permanently. Your service is terrible!
