I had the van for 49 hours, but since I returned it after uhaul closed, they charged me for 3 days. The others also in order to return the van after hours, I'd have to sign in online, when in reality, I just had to put the keys in a return flap. Instructions should be accurate.

Three months later, I'm still battling this UHAUL site for a refund for a false charge. Head manager has ignored my last few attempts with various forms of communication. My credit card has accrued interest charges...and NO RESOLUTION. Do not do business with the San Rafael location.

I had a phone conversation with the E. Francisco blvd. branch today. It was the most unprofessional, rude the point that I may never rent from U-Haul again......and I have been an extremely loyal customer for over 35 years.. BIG disappointment. Whoever this person is over there.....needs an education in customer relations if he is to stay in that job.

Was overcharged $5.00 for moving pad rentals. When questioned the employee at the location said that was because sometimes the pads are left in the truck. I find that this is a hidden cost and customers need to be made aware.



My truck had a engine light on and I wasn’t sure if we were going to be able to make it back to the office or not. Stress I didn’t need.

Felt ripped off by confusing 19.99 add for van rental. The situation was not explained well. It costed me more than I understood. Got to read the fine print as it's extremely misleading. Feel in so broke after this experience. Should have called Hertz or an auto rental agency. Never again.

Staff person said gas tank half full but when I started driving a few blocks gauge showed it was a breath above empty! Called store,spoke with manager who stated I would receive so $20.00 credit so get gas and leave a quarter tank. I shouldn’t have to go looking for a gas station.I did,put $20.00 in and returned it with almost half a tank.When checking for my credit manager had not noted he told me I would receive so now I was told to come back and get it fixed! Seems like bad customer service and rude besides.

The equipment I rented was great and easy to rent but when I returned at night to return the van I noticed the door to the building was open and flapping in the wind. The motion alarms inside were also going off. I contacted the main uhaul number but was thinking about calling 911. The operator had me hold for a while as she tried to call the manager of the location. She returned to the line and told me that the manager lived on site would be out immediately to take my keys and lock the building door where the key drop off slot is located. I waited in the freezing cold for 20 minutes and no one showed up. I called the main line again and talked to another operator. He also tried to call the manager a few times but there was no answer. He then tried to get advice from one off his managers but he said they were too busy. At this point another group of customers showed up to return their truck. He then instructed us to just leave the keys in the open building and that if anything happened to the vehicles we would not be at fault. We clearly didn't feel comfortable with that and asked him to confirm again. He again was not able to get his managers to respond to his request. Given that it was freezing out and I had been there already for an hour or more trying to return the van I finally complied and left the key inside the open door. The next morning I checked my email and uhaul account to see what the status of the rental was but I still have not heard anything back. No follow up to let me know the vehicle is okay. No apology or restitution for putting us in a bad or potentially dangerous situation. Just silence. The operation seems professional on the surface but clearly the team is not trained to handle these types of situations not to mention that the local manager seems totally unreliable.

A bit of a heavy sell on the U-Haul insurance. To say that damage handled through the customer's own insurance is a "nightmare" is a bit of heavy sell. A more matter-of-fact description and comparison would be ideal. That aside, this location always is clean, proficient and staffed with professionals. It's a pleasure doing business at the San Rafael location.

There is a need for an "Exit Only" sign at the exit of the lot. Not knowing the set up, I entered from the wrong end and caused a bit of confusion and traffic problems. (The staff handled my error very well, though.)
