We picked up the truck ~1h from our home. Why we could not pick it up at the place just a couple of miles away was never made clear to us. Given the number of people leaving CA, it seems UHAUL has a "take it or leave it" attitude right now. The UHAUL site wasn't; it was a convenience store and gas station. The rental process was constantly interrupted by their regular customers and deliveries. Our hopes to make the drive back to our home to load the truck before 'rush hour' were lost during the inordinate wait. It did not help either that the site's printer was as slow as molasses uphill in a Montana winter. The truck had clearly not been washed. There was mud everywhere, including in the wheel hubs. That was not the worst part. It smelled like a platoon of smokers had camped in it for a week. I had to drive home with the windows down. The next morning, my asthmatic wife wiped the interior with a cleanser to try and get rid of the smell since tobacco smoke makes her wheeze. It persisted. It was not till we got to Tucson, that I figured out that there was a discrete closed ashtray on the engine cover that was packed with cigarette and cigar butts. Emptying it improved the drive home. When we got home, UHAUL refused to let us drop the truck off at the location close to us. We gave up arguing; we dropped it at the location UHAUL demanded. There, it was confirmed that we were being forced to do so for UHAUL's convenience and profit, since there was another reservation there awaiting the truck's arrival. OBTW: the cab at highway speeds is so loud that we had to yell at each other to be heard. That's not a great scenario for efficient navigation. It is not safe. Also, these trucks really should have cruise control. It would be safer and would provide better fuel economy than the 'green light' reminders. We took pictures of the truck and ashtray.
A little more walkthrough would have helped. I didn't understand that each time the engine started the transmission selected Tow/Haul mode. Driving was strange until I understood how this worked.
this is just a place to dump off rentals after you're done with them. I'll probably never use Uhaul again after how you treated us this week.
Would have liked a printed copy of the receipt; but it was apparent, they don't do that. Most people moving dont have easy access to a printer & squinting at an emailed cellphone size copy isn't what I prefer.
Arrived after-hours and had trouble with the app, but the attendant kindly reassured me not to worry; that the manager would review the return in the a.m., and sure enough, I received my receipt the next morning!

Staff was great. Truck was clean. Very satisfied.
We were NOT notified by 6:00 pm the night before as promised. We received a call approximately 8:30 AM on Monday. We were very disappointed and worried that we would need to make other arrangements at the last minute. Someone from Uhaul should have contacted us.
Though I would recommend this location, they did not have they # of blankets that we reserved and paid for. They only had 5 of the dozen we reserved so we had to go to Escondido to get the remaining quantity needed.
Check in and out was very quick. No hassles no fuss.
My daughter showed up to return the flat bed trailer. They wanted to charge $15 or 50% of the rental fee because she hadn't swept the dirt. I said I was on my way to sweep it... 5 min drive. The uhaul guy said no, that I wouldn't be allowed and he was charged the cleaning fee anyhow. He couldn't wait 5 min even though the trailer wasn't due for 2 more hours. He processed the $15 within minutes and didn't allow me to go sweep it. Horrible customer service. Horrible way to treat people. 50% rental fee penalty for sweeping, when I was coming in 5 min to do it. Outrageous.
I purchased the mattress cover online when I reserved the truck for $3.95 plus tax. When I got there the owner said I didn't so he charged me $21.95 for the same item! I was charged for the item through my bank so I don't know what the deal is. I feel ripped off.
Good service. Staff was efficient and did a good job
Truck was extremely dirty and in unsafe condition. Windshield needed to be cleaned before driving due to buildup of dirt and bird poop. Multiple dash lights were illuminated including service engine and ABS light. Front end shook and vibrated violently at various road speeds creating a very unsafe and unpleasant driving experience. Will not be returning to Uhaul for any future business. Extremely disappointed in the cleanliness and unsafe condition. Also, was charged for two days rental and insurance after original contract was for only one day. Uhaul representative contacted me on Saturday 9/20 saying I would not be able to receive truck by time promised on contract and instructed that I should just pick it up the day before. Upon arrival at rental location that day to pickup truck, the dealers computer system was down and it took over 45 minutes to complete pickup. All the while my wife and young child were sitting and waiting. There was no mention of any additional cost until after returning truck to rental location. Very unprofessional customer service.
Clean the vehicle, maybe get an air freshener? The inside of the cab and box smelled like smoke. The outside of the truck was filthy. The gas tank was less than half full, despite the u-haul business being run out of a gas station. The agent was kinda a jerk, wouldn't let me add another driver (easy to do over the phone though), and was generally rude and impatient.
Guys were super easy to deal with and laid back. Got us in and out really quick and intake was the same.
The cashier was extremely kind, and helpful.
Booked this over the phone. On the phone representative informed me to ask for my military discount in person...the person at this location (Authorized retailer) said there was nothing he can do and that I need to speak with the people I return the trailer to.
On 9/9/2020 I rented a 20 ft. U-Haul for a friend to move from Ranchita to Ramona (approx. 80 miles -- no deviations taken per driver and movers). Truck was clean and maintained, working as expected. Truck was returned at 5:44 pm (9/9/20) (Note: I was not present when the truck was returned so I cannot verify discrepancy in mileage) but millage billed appears to have been altered (billed for 104 miles verses the approx. 80 miles used) with the final invoice reflecting 104 miles being eventually billed. Millage to Ranchita from Ramona (round trip) was approx. 80 miles (no deviations taken, travel and unpacking time verify driver usage). U-Haul receipt for use of truck electronically forwarded at 1:54 am (9/10/20) (verses 5:44 pm when truck checked in) and contains no explanation for the deferred billing. (Truck was returned within normal working business hours meaning the receipt should have been electronically forwarded instantaneous.) Because I was not present when truck returned, I am not able to verify millage inconsistency with gas station attendant. (I also filled the tank with 15 gallons of gas before leaving the gas station, so it is unlikely the gas gauge was reportedly correctly for the full stated millage claimed or billed.) I am not happy about the delayed electronic billing receipt forwarded some 8 hours after the truck was returned, NOR am I pleased with the 24 additional miles added to the bill, but the discrepancy is not enough to file a dispute. I will not be using any Ramona based U-Haul service providers when doing business in the future. Please forward this review to the owner of the Chevron station I rented from and U-Haul management/headquarters and I will follow up with a Yelp review. Thank you. Susan Klat
I have used this location before and the service has always been good. This time it was even better.
There where water bottles and flip flops in the truck when I picked it up
The truck had some debris that was minor but annoying. The pickup place should have dealt with this. I moved 2 items that didn't cause a mess. Nevertheless, when I dropped off the truck the agent made me sweep it out. The debris could was very minor but I had to sweep the truck. It took less then 2 minutes but it was humiliating. I've many times with uhaul, you need to treat your customers better.
Place we picked up from did not know how to send us a receipt never got one was not going to ok cause we arrived at 5:30 instead of 5:00 but u haul had given me one city then contacted me same day as pick and was 1 hr from where we were He was very rude complained about us being late never apologized then we found out he put the chains on wrong to hold car in place we rented a tow-dolley
Have the equipment people reserved. Now i have to buy a plane ticket, reserve a truck. take the 1300 mile drive again , just be cause a 26 ft was not available..
