I was excited to use the self service app feature, but I had to end up calling customer service both at pick up and drop off due to issues with the app, so in the end it was super frustrating and more time consuming than working with someone in person directly. I was also double charged!! I received my receipt today via email and the timestamp on when I returned the truck said 11:14pm instead of the accurate time of 6:25pm, so I was double charged for every line item in the rental. I then had to call customer service once again today and spend 25 minutes on the phone with them to get the issue resolved. Not a good experience.

It’s expensive to use short term: moving a dresser we just bought - over $50 for less than 2 hours and 23 miles round trip. It was very smooth and easy to use, though.

Accessing the key is not obvious from your app. Your app needs to be improved. The code only appeared when I retrieved the key. The app doesn’t tell you easily where the box is. Upon returning the code wasn’t showing (after 3 hours you forget the number combination). I called customer service and after being on hold the guy didn’t even know how the key is returned. Really bad experience.

To improve this location, please be more up-front about needing a code to get in the gate and when I will receive this code. I apparently just needed to step forward in the pickup process a little bit and the code was give to me. Also, please put a reminder in the app when you are heading back to the location about the gate code and the keycode for the lockbox. Also, please let the consumer know that they will need to have the same amount of gas in the truck when they come back. That way I won't show up to return it and then have to leave to get gas. Other than those things, which required multiple calls to U-Haul's customer support, the process was pretty smooth.

There was nowhere to drop the key despite instructions to the contrary. We had to call and try to have it located. When neither a rep or manager could figure it out, they sent us to a location up the street to drop the keys but told us to leave the van where it was. We got to the new location and they would not take the key without the van, so we had to go back and get it, and then WE were charged for the additional mileage. Very poor instructions and service on an already stressful day. Cannot in good conscience recommend the remote pickup and drop off to anyone.

Give the code to put the key back in the lock box on the vehicle since there is no key drop off box anywhere at this 24hr self checkout location. Called customer service a couple transfers later ended with 'maybe' the right guys turned off phone that had a full voicemailbox. I was 25 minutes late getting to work because of this issue.

The check in process was ok, but whomever had rented the truck prior to me had left the bed of the pickup covered in what appeared to be sheet rock fragments. I reported the issue prior to taking possession of the truck. Thankfully the person I spoke to noted my account. When I returned the truck I indicated that the truck wasn’t clean. I know the system is automated, but it appears as though I will be charged the $25 for being honest and indicating that the truck was dirty, even though it wasn’t my mess. I don’t know if this is a design flaw, but when I checked out online, I wasn’t provided the pin for the lockbox so I could lock the key for the truck (non-manned location), and was instead instructed to drop the keys in a drop box which was nowhere to be found. I had to call customer service and had to work with the customer service agent for about 15 mins before we could get the right code. The agent was unable to assure me that I wouldn’t be charged the $25 cleaning fee, so I will have to call back if I do get charged. Never renting from an un-manned station again.
