Several complaints: First, I was required to travel an extra 25 miles to pick up my trailer vs. the location where I had made my reservation about a week before. Second, and this is for the San Rafael location, the check out process was way too slow--evidently the computer system is too complex for your employees--it took them forever to figure out how to complete the screens--also required (yes, absolutely INSISTED) us to provide a second phone number, even though we don't have one--so we made one up! Third, also for San Rafael, I purchased a tarp the day before and attempted to return for a different size--they couldn't do an exchange because I didn't bring my receipt--even though I had been there the day before and they knew who I was--very frustrating--had to take a store credit instead--I will probably never use (by the way, the tarp disintegrated within 5 miles on my trip--totally worthless purchase).

Thank God that Area Manager, Sean, was around to do service recovery for my reservation. It was a total disaster. I cannot believe that a company as large as uHaul has such a TERRIBLE reservation system. So I reserve a 26' truck online a week prior to the rental. I go pick it up at the scheduled date, and the lady at McMullen glass tells me she doesn't have a truck for me, and that usually I have to confirm the reservation the day prior. That's news to me. I call uHaul and they tell me the same thing. The lady on the phone is dumb as dirt and repeats the same thing over and over: "I called you yesterday but you didn't pick up". No voicemail, no email, no text? It's not that hard. Any other trucks in the area? Yes, in San Francisco 22 miles away! The area manager gets called from McMullen glass, and says there's a truck up the street. I go there (Pinole Express) only to have the owner tell me that the 26' truck is ONLY for in town moves. The area manager had to get involved and worked it out so I got the 26' truck, but the battery was dead. He had to get it changed which was another hour of waiting. The caveat to driving away with the only 26' truck in the Bay Area: I had to drive it back to the Bay Area once I was done and bring it to McMullen Glass.

When I returned the truck the individual who was a part time employee was not well versed in the return procedures and spoke very poor English. He was difficult to understand and to communicate with.

I was told that the price was $19.95 a day and that the truck had to be returned with 1/4 tank of gas. (That's all that was in it when I picked it up!) I was not told that there was a large per mile fee. The mileage fee was never mentioned. Instead of $19.95 my card was charged $77.27. I don't understand. I think I was tricked. I'm through with U-Haul!

My original reservation at the U Haul near my home on 23rd in Richmond was a complete disaster. I made the reservation well in advance, checked on things on Friday March 2 and when I came to pick up the truck on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. as arranged the truck had been vandalized and was not usable. I then had to drive to an alternate location 20 minutes away at the gas station where all the while the paperwork was being completed Raj was interrupted by gas customers and therefore the process took a long time. In the meanwhile I was paying moving guys by the hour to do nothing. Once I got the truck and it was loaded and off to Sacramento everything was fine.

The door on the driver side will not open from the outside we told the gentleman there that it went and he said you could just came in from the passenger side and it’s you couldn’t open it so it was a danger and a threat to anybody who got in the car. He said you can just get in on the passenger side and it would be OK but it wasn’t. I got sick so I wasn’t able to return it on time they didn’t compensate me some but I was really deathly ill and I couldn’t get them U-Haul back and my daughter called and explain to them but they didn’t care so I had to pay $700 to keep it it was my mistake that should’ve been compensated for that door did not open that you had to crawl into the Passenger side to get to the drivers side and safe very unsafe.

The operator at the Pinole location where I picked up and dropped off the truck was extremely friendly and quick. He attended to me the minute I walked into the gas station where the uhaul truck is situated and he gave me excellent service. I've rented trucks in the past and I have to say that the Pinole location is by far the most pleasant experience ever. I will rent from him again.
