The self check in through the U-Haul App was good, but it took nearly twenty minutes, so it would be good to let people know that, and also to let them populate information in advance (like Drivers License photo's, etc.) to make the on site experience even better.

The policy of mandatory insurance purchase for a cargo van was disturbing and not mentioned on the website when I made the reservation. If this is a company policy it should be clearly stated or built into the price of the vehicle rental, not sprung on a client at the time of signing the agreement. The facility and the staff in it were otherwise wonderful to deal with.

The reason for the no in maintenance was because when I picked up the van, I discovered that the left rear turn indicator signal was not functioning. I would think this was a part of daily inspection of all the rental fleet. It was reported upon return of the equipment.

Since you charge for gas if returned with less, but take without reimbursement for returning with more gas, you should inform customers of the tank size so we can better estimate how much is needed to fill to equal. My estimates cost me at least $10.

The van's tired were old almost bald "all-seasons" and were NOT able to safely navigate the streets on the rental day. I got stuck on a slanted driveway for and it took OVER AN HOUR to get up the slight slope, and help from a neighbour. The tires should be winter tires during the winter! Or at least not so bald / better maintained.

Biggest complaint overall is that the paperwork takes up a good portion of the time you're paying for. Should be telling people to get there 30 minutes early. And calling a contact IN CASE of an emergency when you haven't even left the building is weird. At least the staff was nice.

Maybe the UHAUL employee could show the client how to control the heating as when I first started up the cube van the heaters were set to full and it got really hot inside. I wasn't able to find the heating control while driving so I had to stop driving in order to find and set it to a cooler setting.

To improve your service, DO NOT recommend a cargo van for anyone moving a queen bed because you can not stand it up and maximise the use of the space. Unfortunately, we had very bad advice from the person on the other end of the phone when we booked. I explained in detail what we had to move and the cargo van was recommended to us.

There was freezing rain when the truck was picked up and I was pleased that the windshield and mirrors were scraped clean. Unfortunately the rear step at the back of the truck was covered in ice and very slippery. I had to put some salt and sand on it to to make it safe.

We have rented from the Britannia location a number of times in the past and never experienced a problem until yesterday. When we arrived at 8 am to pick up our rental van, we were informed that we needed to add an emergency contact number to our file, which would have to called immediately in order to proceed with the transaction. Apparently this is a policy that was implemented a while back, but I was not informed of it when I called to make the reservation two days prior, and it doesn’t appear in an obvious place on the website. I texted the person we tried to contact, but they still had their phone silenced and as a result we were not able to complete the rental. Unfortunately, there are not too many other people we know that will answer a call from a random number. We eventually made arrangements with our emergency contact and returned later in the day to pick up the van, which was still available. When we arrived at the offices, the rental agent was dealing with another customer, so we stood off to the side of the desk area to wait our turn. Within a minute or two, another man entered the offices and walked quickly to the second desk area without looking at us. At this point, the second clerk came out from the back area and he asked her about a key for a storage locker. Although we we were there before him, we assumed he only had a quick question, so we didn’t say anything. It turns out he also had a car rental and we were further delayed while we waited for his transaction to be completed. To be fair to the clerk, she wasn’t in the front office area when we or the other customer arrived, but as a policy she should ask to serve the next customer in line. In the end, we had a good portion of our day taken up in order to rent a van we only needed for a one-hour errand. If an emergency contact number is truly necessary, this requirement should be very clearly communicated at the point of making the reservation. Finally, I made my reservation by phone because whenever I try to reserve online, the Britannia location (closet to us) never shows available vans, yet they always have stock when I call. As the result of this last experience we not likely to use UHaul again.
