While customer service was great, the equipment was defective and made the move much harder. The truck I rented has serious transmission problems which eat up a lot of gas and cost costumers more, while also making the truck louder for everyone else. I am referring mainly to the truck's defective transmission which if the driver as much as taps the brakes when going downhill, the truck shifts into a lower gear and revs up a lot. The rpm for me went from 1500 rpm going downhill,to 3500-4000 rpm once I would brake . That is insane, as the truck is not being forced at all - going downhill should be the easiest thing for the truck. There was also a very irritating problem with the light in the loading area. The instructions say the light stays on for 30 minutes. The light on the truck I rented turned off every 2 minutes, and required that I go and open the cabin door and close it again for the light to stay on. I read the notes posted in the cabin and loading area and followed them, but the light always turned off after 2 minutes. Imagine that on a 10 hour move as ours was. I also gave the location fewer stars because there is very little room behind the trucks to back up and fit the truck when returning it. It would make more sense for the parking spots to go parallel or diagonal with the narrow parking lot, not perpendicular. Again, customer service was great and went over everything with me, but even though I've used uhaul many times over the years, the next time I need a moving truck I will look at competitors first, as the equipment might be better maintained.

I spoke to two people when making my reservation via phone and that was one of the worst experiences I ever had. Luckily, I was smart enough to SecureCare and spoke to the Manager there. As always he was extremely polite, professional, apologetic and astute. He was able to accommodate me and make me feel valued as a customer. The two individuals (reservationist and scheduler) that I spoke to her over the phone did not. They are a poor representation of your organization. Why asked me whether I wanted to be contacted via text message phone or email when you're going to call me even though I didn't choose that option? Neither one took any ownership of addressing me as a value customer nor identify my needs when I was explicit regarding my needs. The person that helped us at the location was polite and I have no complaints about him. My problem is with the equipment that was rented to us. The bolts connecting the tongue to the trailer had been sheared off and it looked like it had been in an accident. Unfortunately, we didn't notice this until we had towed the trailer home and loaded a vehicle onto it. The only thing holding the tongue to the trailer was the surge brake. We contacted roadside assistance and after an hour on the phone we found another trailer 30 minutes in the opposite direction of where we were going. This meant we had to unload the vehicle and move the trailer to somewhere out of the way. The location that we picked up the replacement from was a unorganized mess. The had been made aware of our situation and showed no interest in getting us on our way quickly. The manager told us she needed to get some information so my wife stayed in the office so we could start hitching the trailer. The manager went back to her conversation. My wife got tired of waiting and interrupted only to be told that the manager really didn't need anything. The staff that helped us connect the trailer didn't seem to have any idea what they were doing. They didn't even know to cross the safety chains and my wife had to point it out to them. The other problem with the chains was that the didn't loop the chains back to themselves, instead the connected one chain back to itself and the second chain to the first chain. (We didn't see this until we disconnected the trailer the next day.) All of the problems and delays meant we missed visiting with family that we rarely get to see as well as missing the check-in time for our hotel. Sleeping in the car in the Savannah heat for a couple of hours isn't my idea of fun. When we tried to return the trailer we ran into even more problems. When we picked up the replacement trailer we asked where we needed to return the trailer and they told us to bring it to them. This turned out to be wrong. The Manager (same one as before) didn't bother telling us when we went in to ask where to put it that it had to go the the original location. Because of this we got the trailer disconnected in the rain only to have to put it back on a few minutes later. After disconnecting the trailer we went back into the office and she tried to charge us $180 and showed no concern for the many problems that we had already had or the fact that they told us to bring it back to them. After already driving 40 minutes to drive the trailer to them we then had to re-hitch the trailer and drive 30 minutes across town. It took about two hours just to drop off a trailer and get home. This has been the worst experience I have had with any company. Our safety was put at risk. Our cars were put at risk. We had to cancel plans with family and had to sleep in our car.
