My only complaint is that even with an advanced reservation my pickup location could not be guaranteed! With two locations in my home town I was forced to pickup 10 miles away because it was a one way trip. However they did allow us to pickup a day in advance at no charge.

Truck was filled with dog hair from previous customer. Allergy to dogs made experience intolerable. Had to place sheets on seats to cover up hair. Otherwise staff at location very helpful.

I arrived at 2pm at the Uhaul dealer on Railroad Ave in Greenwich, CT to pick up the van I had reserved for 1:30pm. There was no one there who could do the rental, which I found highly unusual, but I waited for 15 or 20 minutes until the guy (John?) returned from getting lunch. He apologized and since by the time he had finished the paperwork it was almost 2:40, he said he would update the rental time in the computer for me to say 3pm, in order to better reflect the current time. He said I could return it the next day up until 3pm without being charged for a second day. There were items from the previous renter - including an EZ Pass - in the cupholder of the van. This should have been my first clue that no one had checked over the van. When I began driving it, I noticed right away that it was jolting forward and back, even with my foot steady on the gas. At first I thought this was just the way it drove, and proceeded to the gas station to fill it up with gas. The van had only a a little over a quarter of a tank, but I had to take it to Brooklyn and back. I then continued to our home, where we loaded up the van and then started our trip. We were working on a deadline and running nearly an hour behind, as it had taken 40 minutes to pick up the van and another 10 to stop for gas. As I began driving, I became nervous about the jolting of the van. I pulled over when the red dash light came up indicating, "0% oil life remaining". I pulled into the closest gas station and called the hardware store on Railroad Ave in Greenwich for help. It was after 5pm, and they were closed. We then called Uhaul customer support and sat on hold for nearly half an hour before, with a different phone, I tried calling number from which a woman from Uhaul had called me to confirm my reservation the day before. I was able to get through to that number quite quickly, but the woman who answered did not know what to do and put me on hold for awhile. In the meantime, I went into the gas station where the kids at the register had no idea how to add oil to a van. (Not many kids do these days. I'm an adult woman and I had no idea either.) Deciding to be resourceful in a time crunch, I popped the hood and located the dipstick. I pulled it out, wiped it, reinserted it, and checked the oil. There was less than 1/2 inch of the stick wet. I don't know much, but I know that means it needs oil! I had no intention of taking risks driving on the highway to Brooklyn and back the next day. When the woman came back on the line, she suggested that the only Uhaul open at that hour (now after 6 I believe) would be for us to backtrack. I asked her to find out what type of oil I should put into the tank. I'd buy it myself. She didn't know and put me on hold for awhile again. She finally returned and asked if the van as a GMC and I confirmed that it was before being put back on hold. In the meantime, I took a good look around under the hood. Pickup location was changed the day before. Then when I get there the day of, the size truck I reserved weeks prior was not available. I was forced to take a smaller truck and half of my belongings to move to another state did not fit. Now I have to make a trip back to NY and rent another truck, pay gas and tolls and pay movers to load and unload again. This is unacceptable and extremely inconvenient.

Trey is great but scheduling needs to be better. The pickup location changed twice. The pickup was delayed 4 hours.

Do not allow people to book locations that don’t have availability. Changing a day/2 prior to renting was an inconvenience and to top it off, on the day of pick up the new location didn’t have my truck available either. I wasn’t credited but given 20 extra mile as if that made a difference. I dropped my truck off a day earlier and customer service called to get ratings, how were they not aware of the early drop off?

Truck was not at the location. so i had to drive to Portchester to pick up the vehicle. need to email or text renter about changes.

The gas mileage on the small van was at best 10 mpg. I find this unacceptable.

Overall, experience was good beside the real final cost of the rental. The $19.95 rental rate is attractive, but the $.99/ mile is quite expensive. I needed the truck for a quick pickup of a package that couldn’t fit in my car, and my trip to Home Depot turned out to be a $70 expense for 1 hour use of the truck.

Van should be cleaner. Gas tank should be full. Location should know what road can be used based on it being a commercial vehicle. Van smelled really bad. Good location for me, so if I needed another uhaul I might use them,but overall a poor experience, especially since it is not inexpensive.

We called into drop off location to confirm and they greeted me by name on phone. Drop off did not take more than three minutes. Email receipt for charges was sent and received. Very impressive online operation by U-Haul.
