The auto hauler we rented was to be ready in Boone, Iowa - I WAS TOLD. We drove 373 miles from Illinois to pick up a car, then were told SUNDAY by Montique that the location was to be Grand Junction, 20 miles From the car & OUT OF OUR WAY. No GPS available out there, could not find the place. Would have been worse if CHRIS at Higgins had not helped us. The Motorsports employee at Boone Told me the hauler would be in Boone. It was not. Nobody at Des Moines Regional Office cared (Montique) or contacted anyone at Motorsports to go get the hauler & bring it to Boone for us on Monday morning. THIS ADDED ONE AND ONE HALF HOURS to our trip home, we arrived & had to unload after dark, and my husband had to go to work with very little sleep. BECAUSE THE AUTO HAULER WAS NOT WHERE WE WERE TOLD IT WOULD BE. Pretty sad that we made a trip of over 750 miles in 2 days, and the only piece of the business we took care of that wasn't dependable was U-HAUL. Chris at Grand Junction was the only one there, & had 2 auto haulers. One of the employees from the Boone location could have left Monday morning & went over there to bring one back to the Boone location, which was where our car was located. I mentioned this to Montique on Sunday. I told her we were from out of state and didn't know the area. NO EFFORT WAS MADE TO GET US THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WE NEEDED. Both of us are seniors, and knew it was going to be a challenging trip. The U-Haul fiasco made the project MUCH HARDER. Chris at Higgins, however, was very helpful. ONCE WE GOT THERE. It was not Chris's fault. I blame the Regional Office in DesMoines because even after I explained to Montique what a HARDSHIP it would be to go 20 miles in the opposite direction to pick up the hauler in Grand Junction, there was NO EFFORT MADE for anyone from the Boone location to bring the auto hauler to the location we were told it would be waiting for us, in Boone. And I told Montique that we wouldn't need it until 11:30 AM on Monday. But she wasn't willing to even call the Boone location and ask them to do that. And I KNOW it can be done, and has been done, when we have rented other equipment from U-Haul.

This guy was above and beyond professional. The COMPANY NOT HIM screwed up my split contract. It took me almost 2 hours of my time to get the transporter because nobody at the Iowa office would pick upntheir phone. The Des Moines office split the contract and gave me extra miles to get to the transporter. I had to drive to get the transporter because the dolly that I rented on line wouldn’t work. I only found this out at the truck pick up site after their computer wouldn’t allow me to use the reserved car dolly because it said my car wouldn’t work despite putting in everything correctly on my online reservation. The location that I drove to to pick up the transporter isn’t reachable using GPS. This dealer was more than accommodating and explained how to get to him despite traveling to where the GPS sent me to incorrectly. This dealer finally allowed me to pay cash for the transporter because the computer reservation just wouldn’t work despite him calling and being forwarded to out of state call centers that couldn’t help him because they didn’t do the split reservation. He even had to call his regional Manager who couldn’t do anything to help. He spent and hour of his time even after his official close time to try to make the reservation work. He wrote me out a handwritten reservation and allowed me to pay with exact cash just to get me back on the road. This time cost me valuable time. I was u able to get all of the contents out of my home as I had a strict meeting time with my new landlords. I now have to spend the time and money to travel 4.5 hours to finish retrieving my personal items and I will have to pay for another small uhaul to do it, lose my time and gas money to accomplish what could have been done if the reservation was completed correctly on uhaul’s end. To top all of that frustration( which I wouldn’t have even said a word about), the drop off point charged me for going over mileage by 1.6 miles. The trailer was nicely unhooked from the trailer and parked next to the others as was the truck as a courtesy. So finding a charge for a mere 67 cents on my account prompted me to enlighten your company to the complete hell I went through in this move and the huge added expense of the fuel that I hadn’t planned on for pulling a transporter and the travel and truck rental that will now be needed because I lost well Over 2 valuable hours of time and have to make a return trip to retrieve the remainder of my items. I’ve never had ANY problems with Uhaul and have used you many, many times. This may have just caused me to rethink using your company again in the future.
