I selected the self service option because the location didn't open until after my scheduled pick up time. Self service wasn't an option at this location because the lock box wasn't installed on the truck, and I had to wait 35 minutes after my pickup time for the owner to get me set up, including the paperwork, keys to the truck, and loading of the furniture pads. In addition, I didn't get an apology, even though I was on a very tight moving schedule. In addition, the truck didn't seem like it had been well maintained in terms of the engine and overall driving performance, so I didn't feel safe driving the truck. There are clearly many things that can be improved for the next customer. I personally have rented for the last time from Uhaul.

Hi, I’m reaching out because I had a terrible experience with U-Haul. I reserved a 10’ truck at U-haul Mountain View for August 19th, from 11 am to 4 pm. I got to the U-Haul location before 11 am, and it took over 40 minutes to get help from one of the employees. When I was finally helped, the employee told me they did not have the truck for me; they told me they had overbooked the trucks that day. I asked them to help me figure out a possible solution. They offered giving me a pickup truck, but this was not big enough for what I was carrying. I proposed renting one of the bigger trucks, many which were available at the moment. The employees told me they were reserved for other customers who were going to check them out later. I don’t know why I was a lower priority customer. The employees asked me in a condescending manner the date of my reservation. I had reserved the truck a month prior to that day (July 19th, order #28244622), to avoid any issues with my move-out. I had reserved my truck before any of the other customers that day. I then suggested calling other nearby U-Haul stations. The employees were able to find one in Rainer’s Service Station (U-Haul renting location in East Palo Alto, CA). This was about 15 minutes away. They made a reservation for me, from 1 pm to 6 pm. When I got to the East Palo Alto station, the “U-Haul lady” (as referred to by the gas station employees) had left for the day, and she had left one of the gas station employees responsible for helping out with U-Haul stuff. This person did not know how to carry out the contract procedure. So I had to call U-Haul customer service (wait time of 20 minutes) to explain the situation. They told me I had to do self check-in through the online U-Haul portal. I tried to do so, and the website said something like “We can’t do self-check-in in this location. Please talk to the U-Haul representative at the front desk of the local”. This was clearly very frustrating. After some time, the employee from the gas station was able to talk with the "U-Haul lady” on the phone, and she gave him instructions on how to proceed with the contract. I ended up checking out the truck at 1:29 pm, as it can be seen in my contract. And the truck did not have the furniture pads I paid for. This was a terrible experience. My move-out day plans were destroyed by it. The people helping me move had to leave half-way through my moving because of the delay. I know this is not usual on U-Haul, because I’ve used your services in the past and never had an issue. I trust U-haul strives to deliver a good experience. Let me know if you can do anything to remedy the inconveniences caused. Best, Shai M

The app is terrible and should be fixed or removed from the App Store. It would login to my account. It just sat in the login screen without any errors. I eventually used the website.

The service was slow. The contract was written up incorrectly as an in-town rental and I was told I could take the trailer back to any U-Haul location. After taking it back to another location other then where it was rented from, I found out that I was actually going to be charged 5x's the cost if I did take it the location in East Palo Alto where I had rented it. I would never go back to that East Palo Alto location.

The office was not open when it was supposed to be open. Drop-off was difficult as no one was at the location. I spent 15 mins in the sun trying to return the vehicle. Now I am spending time trying to get my money refunded as I was charged for an extra day. Overall, very dissatisfied.

I made the reservation, got the confirmation for pick up at Belmont. I went to Belmont at the exact time and was told that the pick up location was about 20 minutes away. this was Friday before the 4th of July holiday and traffic was very heavy. It added over 1 hour to my pick up and we almost missed the delivery we had scheduled which is why we needed the truck. This was terrible customer service. I also ordered boxes and never received them so I had to make an additional stop. Not sure I will ever use U-haul again, especially when there are other options.
