We picked up this truck and were sent on our way to do our errands, we pulled it into our house after one other stop and as my husband pulled away to get gas and return the vehicle, I noticed the truck was slowly leaking some sort of dark fluid all over our driveway. We planned on mentioning this when we dropped it off, feeling thankful we paid for the safe move insurance. He calls me about 30 minutes later as he was attempting to get to the gas station, saying the truck was beginning to stall, and I stayed on the phone as he manuevered into the gas station. He filled the tank and when he turned it on and tried to put it into gear, it continued to stall in first gear and wouldn't move at all. He was now stranded and I had to quickly drive down 20 minutes away and wait for a tow truck with our one year old. Thankfully the tow came quickly and the tow truck driver spoke to U-Haul representatives and told us upon looking at the truck and documenting the mechanical issue he observed that it should've been serviced a while ago. It was a truck with over 125,000 miles on it. I'm upset that we had picked up this vehicle under the premise it was up to date and in working order when in reality it could've broken down in the middle of the road and put us and our child in a dangerous situation, and we got lucky that my husband only got stuck at a gas station and I was able to go pick him up. The maintenance should've been up to date on the truck at the LEAST, or it shouldn't have been rented out at all. On top of everything, we rent, and I now have to explain to my landlord why there is transmission fluid all over our driveway and down our street. We don't plan to rent uhauls from this location anymore if this is the kind of condition the trucks are deemed fit to drive in.
