I had a great experience with U-Haul from Five Star Store It. I'm not sure her name, she was working seemingly alone at this location on Friday afternoon when I picked up the van I rented, but this service-person was incredibly cordial and extremely helpful. She fixed my reservation from 24-hours to 23 hours and 45 minutes to save me $10 on insurance coverage. All in all, she's a gem!

Vehicle wasnt ready, site person called in and left a wall note on the window that it was being operated from another site. I went there Nd was helped very professionally. Came back to first site to get the truck. It wasnt clean and the keys were locked in the building. Had to go to the other site to pick up a manager to come back and get the keys from inside. Took me 45 min to pick up my truck. Recommend: fire the manager at site 1. Get site 2 manager a raise and a car. I would have been happy to go to site 2 from the start if I had just gotten an email. Had to figure it out myself... not good customer service.

The person responsible for examining the truck failed to notice that one tire was in poor condition. The tire went totally flat. It was a good thing that I was not on a freeway when that happened. This could have resulted in a death.

The interior of the van was a bit dirty
If the contract is changed, make it clear to the customer beforehand. If there are instructions about returning vehicle when no staff is on office, there should be clear isntructions what to do (instead of leaving the customer waiting for online storage facility's help service to figure out what to do and not be able to help because he doesn't even know and can't get ahold of anyone who might know). If the customer is instructed to return the vehicle with "approximately 3/4 of a tank full of gas," then that should be honored, instead of finding a bill for extra gas, because it wasn't "exactly 3/4 full." Staff should be alert (awake !) and ready to assist customers when the facility opens at 9 am, not arrive late and then act as if the whole transaction is a burden.
Probably not due to the operator but more likely the system -- but it took a very long time to enter data on the computer -- he had to enter my credit card three times! And this was despite the fact that I filled out the forms online before even coming to pick up the vehicle.
