The guy putting the uhaul on did not tighten it completely and the uhaul fell off right before getting to the highway. Good thing we caught it early or there would've been a major car accident

Our original reservation was made for Tomar in Patchogue, NY. I made the reservation online and was sent a confirmation and an email with a start button to start my self-service rental. I got to the location and the truck was locked behind a gate and the business was closed. I clicked start in the email thinking maybe there was some way this work that I didn't know about. The start button did nothing. I had to Haul customer service and wait on hold for quite a while to even speak to someone. Then I was told to go pick up a van at a different location. This location was fine and the people were very nice, but we had to wait every time someone came to the counter for lotto or to buy something. The van had a very strong odor of smoke. It went away after 10 minutes driving with the windows open. But at the second location we were actually able to pick up the van that we needed after wasting an hour trying to straighten out the mess the first location made of our day. If you are in this area, save yourself a lot of trouble and schedule with Beer & Smoke Inc in Eat Patchogue instead of Tomar in Patchogue.

Person at Beer and Smoke was great. He was very helpful and friendly. The reason for the average review is that there is a uhaul location 500ft away that looks like it’s undergoing renovations. Signs on where to drop off the truck were not very clear on the door which caused some confusion.

First off the building had no heat was freezing inside the building where we had to do the paper work. The employee was a great guy. I also notified him at the start of the rental that the driver seat belt is broken and does not work and he’s like oh sorry I’ll ask the manager to give you a discount or something never heard from anyone drove around in the snow today without a seat belt since it was broken and never even called to say sorry or offer a discount

I was overcharged for rental and had to call U-haul customer service to issue a refund. I recommend reviewing carefully contract charges.
