The interior of the vehicle smelled of smoke and the ashtray was full of cigarettes. The cup holders were sticky and the seats had to be wiped off. The truck itself ran great and all ramps and bump bars were operational.

This is about uhaul.com. We ordered a 20' truck and were confirmed at 8pm the previous night via email. At 9pm the previous night, we received a phone call that the 20' truck is not available and we could have a 26' truck at a different location. It turned out fine, but why confirm via email then change an hour later.

Maybe just take a couple of minutes to show where things are (move seat, side mirrors, lights, etc). I had a 9' cargo van with < 5,000 miles - very nice - only thing was that it had manually operated side mirrors - someone came out to adjust while I sat in the van; however, I found that they still needed adjustment and had to keep getting out of the car to adjust until they were just right.

This location was fine, but the overall UHaul experience was disappointing. I had reserved a UHaul truck close to where needed it. But on the day I was supposed to get the truck, I received a text message saying that the location had changed, meaning that the truck was much further away (adding time to move and miles to the truck). When I called the UHaul location where I had reserved the truck, they explained that they didn't have one available. Such last minute changes cause hardships to movers.

The only downsize is that the trailer cannot be guaranteed at the location desired. We can go to three of the locations but not the Mt. Kisco one, too far. But understand it is busy season, just would like more of a window of where and what time more then just day before. My husband is still working and difficult just to pick up to go the a trailer without notice.

Customer service. Years ago i had a truly horrible experience[s]- one that not only inconvenienced me and my family, but was a safety issue as well. Long story short- After years of, understandably, avoiding UHaul- i found myself renting a truck. The initial visit went well [it was the owner] and I was actually impressed that I was given a brand new truck. This was great because I knew that I probably wouldn't break down this time. I came today at 11:55 for my 12:00 drop-off to find a note on the door saying they would "be back @ 1, picking up equipment". I have a picture of it if needed... Sorely disappointed that it's "happened again", I immediately called and left a message so there would at least be some documentation that I had arrived on time. Phil rolled in at about 12:50, lunch drink in hand- wondering if I was dropping off. I told him yes and asked why, if my drop off was to be @12pm why was no one here? At that point he didn't address my question he simply said, "24 hour drop off, man!" and then quickly, "We don't open till one today anyway". I thought that was pretty shady considering what the sign said. So either the sign was lying or good ol' Phil was... Unless of course he wrote it - in which case, he's lying either way. I wasn't told that when I picked up the truck. I wasn't told that there would be wacky hours of oper. on Monday when I dropped off. I wasn't told to use the box and the procedure for checking or not checking the mileage/condition/gas level if no one was there to receive the vehicle. I believe I just said, "not cool". At which Phil pipes, "Well if you wanna sit here till one, you just go right ahead"... then literally without another word, TURNED HIS BACK ON ME, walked to the door of the office, [i actually followed, thinking we were just going to take care of it] unlocked it, entered and then LOCKED IT BEHIND HIM and me, out. It was at that point I knocked and asked his name. He made sure I had his last name too... Benfield. Nonchalant. Not interested. No empathy, concern or remorse for my wasting an hour of valuable time. Or for the miscommunication that caused it. He literally would not be put out for a simple apology - well I suppose that's a high expectation, considering the fact that he didn't even say hello to me or introduce himself. Straight-up Rude.Cocky with the last name thing too. So here I am, played like a sucker by UHaul again. I can honestly say that I have had truly consistent experiences with UHaul- consistently horrible. And look, I'm generally not a complainer. I've been around and know it's a tough racket. Also, I'm not into one-star reviews- the equipment was fine this time... but that's to be expected, right? With the rental industry so thick with competition - not just other joints but other UHauls as well - the actual rental is just a commodity. Which makes customer service the real 'stock in trade'.
