Rolf PaudlerI didn't receive a Rental Contract from the U haul dealer when I picked up the truck. I had called the U Haul dealer around 12:00 PM to reserve the truck, and a few minutes after I got off the phone I received the Order/Reservation at 12:10 PM with the Online Check In which I completed with the dealer when I picked up the truck at 1:00 PM. Before I left with the truck the dealer told me that I would be emailed a Rental Contract but it never arrived. At 3:12 PM I received another email from U Haul; it was an auto-confirm telling me that my U Haul order had been updated. But I still did not receive a Rental Contract. I phoned the U Haul office the next day and spoke to Daniel Belair. While we were talking he emailed me the Rental Contract and told me that I should have had one given to me by the dealer (either a paper copy or emailed one) when I picked up the truck. When I returned the truck I mentioned this to the dealer and he found it very strange that I did not receive one by email from U Haul. He said when he filled out and submitted the Rental Contract information on his computer it should have automatically generated a copy of the Rental Contract to me by email. When I returned the truck and the dealer submitted the return information into his computer I did receive an email of the receipt. Also, when the dealer was filling out the information on his computer when I was there to pick up the truck he asked me how many miles I would be driving. I found it a bit odd that he would ask "miles", because in Canada we use kilometers, but he told me that the distance needed to be in miles because the truck was from the United States. I told him it would be about 60 miles. Later that evening when I looked closer at the Order/Reservation that I had been sent at 12:10 PM I noticed it showed the distance as 60 kilometers (not miles!) at $0.89 per kilometer and the Subtotal on the Order Details was $103.99. However, on my online banking the charge from U Haul on my Visa was for $151.51. When I received the Rental Contract from Daniel Belair the next day the amount was calculated for 60 miles at $1.43 per mile showing the correct Subtotal of $151.51. When I spoke to Daniel about this he said he would like to see the Order/Reservation I was looking at so I emailed him a copy. Daniel said he had no explanation for that discrepancy between the information on the Rental/Reservation (showing 60 kilometers) and the Rental Contract (60 miles) except to say that it's probably because U haul is an American company and their computer system is probably a bit faulty. Also, the inside of the cab of the truck was quite dirty. When I was filling out the Online Check-In with the dealer, and I got to the question asking if the truck was clean, I pointed out to the dealer that the cab of the truck was quite filthy. His response was to say that the question wasn't asking about the cab, it was asking if the box of the truck was clean. There was lots of dried mud and gravel on the floor and pet hair on the seats. It looked like someone allowed a dog with muddy paws to jump around inside the truck because there was muddy paw prints on the seats, on the inside door panels, and on the dash. I had to vacuum the cab and wipe off the seats, door panels, and dash with a damp cloth when I got the truck home. However, when I spoke with Daniel Belair at the U Haul office he offered to refund me $30 to my Visa for my inconvenience. I really appreciated him doing that!
