The man I spoke to on the phone at Van's to reserve the Uhaul seemed helpful and polite. However, when I went in inperson to confirm the after-hours pick-up, he was rude and dismissive. Needless to say, when the time came to pick-up and return using after-hours....it was a mess. I never received a contract, and had to rely on helpful customer service to assist me. I asked what the total was and he told me and that was it. I didn't even need the uhaul till the 24th. Discuss all charges before adding them to the contract. I was charged for something I thought was optional. We did not discuss the damage protection coverage. I didn't bring it up and the agent did not ask if I wanted it. Would have been appropriate to explain if it was required or to give me the choice.Sandra F.

Customer service could have been better, the guy pretty much just gave us the keys and said â€˜here ya go'. He wasn't rude, but he definitely wasn't super friendly either. I asked to rent a 2bed+ truck, which I assumed would accommodate 2 bedrooms, living room and kitchen. It did not. We would have made two trips with the truck but since we were paying per mile for mileage, we just made several more trips with our own vehicles. If the truck would have been appropriately sized, or if it were suggested that we rent a larger truck, we would have been able to make only one trip as planned. In the end, having a uhaul was helpful, but the whole experience was rather disappointing.allison W.

Went in on Friday to reserve a truck for the following Monday. Needed to pick up the truck at 8:00am Monday. Clerk said they didn't open until 9:00am, but if I had a smart phone all I had to do was call "800 UHaul" and someone would walk me through the process of picking up the truck. I ask where the keys would be located and he said out by their mail box. That whole area is overgrown with shrubs and weeds. I ask if I he needed my driver's license or my credit card and was told no, you are all set. Decided to investigate how to obtain the truck before Monday morning. Discovered I had to set up an account. Did that but not without much difficulty because it continued to say I needed a code to verify the account and it would never accept the code I entered. Finally backed out of the account and logged back in and the account was already set up. Decided to call the 800 number 800-Go-UHaul to find out what I needed to do to pick up the truck on Monday morning. Made 4 phone calls and after waiting at least 15 minutes on each call to be connected to a service rep. I hung up. Watched a You Tube Video of how to obtain the truck. The independent You Tube Video was very helpful. All U-Haul clerks should watch it so they will know the procedure or better yet all clerks should be required obtain a truck through their smart phone. Since I had to reserve the truck on line I began to worry I had two reserved since the clerk said I was all set on Friday. Made another call to 800-Go-UHaul. Waited 20 minutes for someone to finally answer. They were very helpful and sent me a link to click on when I showed up to get the truck on Monday morning. Arrived Monday morning, clicked the link. Had to go to the Key boxes and scan the bar code for the location (You Tube Video nor U-Haul rep. on phone said anything about this). Scanned location barcode, took a selfie, took a picture of my driver's license, Then it would not scan the back of my license. Began to chat, but finally got the back of license scanned. Next instruction was to find the location of the truck (thy only had 3 trucks there). You Tube Video showed truck number on the left front fender. Could not find the number anywhere on any of the trucks. Finally clicked on located truck and it gave me the key box number and combination code. As soon as I opened the door I noticed the driver's seat was ripped. Had to check off on exterior condition, fuel level and mileage, but was not offered the opportunity to check off interior condition. Started the truck and began loading a few things into it from my car. Got a call from my office (by the way no one said anything about verifying who I was with a an alternate phone number and/or a listing my business) my office person said she just received a call from the other U-Haul dealer in town and he told her my truck had been transferred to his location and I should go down there and pick it up. I told here to call him back and tell him I was sitting in a truck and it was running and I was not going to his location to pick up a truck. After 20 minutes of jumping through all the hoops I headed down the road immediately noticed a tire noise. A tire either has a slipped belt or a knot on it. Told the clerk when I returned the truck. While on the one day trip I noticed the truck number on the driver's side at the very back and top of the box. Apparently there lacks consistency as to where the truck number is located and no where in the instructions does it say where to locate the truck number. And as to the Contract Terms & Conditions/Agreement - 14 pages and 6,333 words. I understand the need to protect your company and its equipment, but really - who would take time to read all of that. You need to streamline that document so someone might actually read it.Tom D.

The pick up and drop off was fine, however one of the loading ramps on the trailer I rented was bent. It could not be seen through visual inspection until the ramp was extended, then you could see the noticeable â€œuâ€ shape. The ramp was fine for loading, but the bent ramp would not latch into the trailer for highway use without the use of a pry. Also the left rear tire on the trailer was bald in the middle 2/3 of the tire.Scott S.

Go over all the fees with the customer. I got hit for $71 for 100 miles of driving when I only drove 33 miles. How is this legal? My initial charge was $70 - suddenly, it became $168, then nearly $400. I doubt I'll use U-Haul again.Marc G.

This questioner is hard to answer correctly. I had no problem what so ever with my Massachusetts u haul. They did their job and got my containers to Hannibal. This was at a cost of $2400. This I thought was fair. Now the u haul price from Hannibal to Shelbina was $818. Shelbina is only 55 minutes away from Hannibal. How is that a fair rate? My three containers were brought to me on a trailer being pulled by a Chevy truck. They were left on the trailer for us to empty. When finished, they were taken away. I have no problem with the staff. They were very courteous and helpful. I guess I just don't see how u haul can justify that price for such a short distance. Where as the $2400. from Massachusetts to Missouri was fair. That is why I had a tough time answering the first question. Since this is the first time I ever moved, I have nothing to compare it with. With all that said I would have to rate u haul average.Janette F.

The final bill was $60 but charged my credit card $178. I'm waiting for it to post final on my account. Then my bank will reimburse me the money STOLEN from me. The bank will most likely start an investigation on this bullshit. The guy at uhaul told me the bank was holding my money. My bank said that was wrong. So I'm covered but I gotta wait for money that was intended to pay my mortgage. I'm hard working and live pay check to pay check. The staff were always curious and respectful when I called with questions. I was always given a contact number, at times a personal cell phone number, and staff worked with me to ensure I was provided the service and time needed to get my items to the correct location. I even had the driver who was dropping off the u-boxes, in Connecticut, call me to make sure he was putting he boxes in the correct location in the driveway. It was apparent that customer service is important and that was a refreshing.David W.
