Two of the items I reserved were unavailable. The van itself was given to me with 1/8 of a tank. I had to refill almost immediately. Overall, very poor experience. I always try to avoid UHaul, and each time I am forced to rent equipment it reminds me of how poor the service is.John G.
I've always had great service and a great experience at this location. This experience was a little different. The front desk assistant was as helpful and pleasant as always. In fact, all the staff was great. The problem with this visit was the equipment. The van I rented had no lock on the passenger side door. The lock insert was missing. The van was presented to me with "less than 1/4 tank of gas" which was actually less than 1/8th tank of gas (yes, I have the pic of it) and this was annoying as I had to go to get gas immediately upon getting the vehicle resulting in a delay to my destination. This was a major failure in customer service. Given I have had so many good experiences at this location, I will give this a pass, but I will not the next time and will request a different vehicle with a properly filled gas tank.CLIFTON B.

The staff was terrible. The first Uhaul we went to on was so friendly, nice and helpful. This group looked like they HATED every customer and we were bothering them. Zero urgency. In addition, they couldn't answer basic questions and acted like you should be able to just figure out walking around aimlessly around the parking lot on where to find the car, while people beg you to hire them to help you move. In addition, this is NOT in a great area and not having customer parking is and saying "park on the street" and offering 4 metered spots is CRAZY. People are clearly watching you leave your car to get into a truck and obviously, people are switching cars, they need somewhere to leave their current car... this location takes zero pride in what they do and is the epitome of "bare minimum"... get a parking lot for your customers, have somebody acting as a host to help people navigate through your 200 trucks to get yours and get been signage so they can at least give you the truck back.... we walked into a dark garage and just kept yelling until somebody who happened to be leaving to go home offered to take the truck. Worst Uhaul ever. Next time, we'll drive to the one in burbs.Carolyn T.

It was an extremely frustrating experience and took much longer than it needed to, to find a storage unit. For some reason the staff was reluctant to show me available units. So would only show me one at a time. Then I had to come back up and wait for the staff to be available to talk to me (it was a busy day) and then discuss another option. I don't know why they wouldn't just show me a few all at once. I also don't know if I got the best unit for me, as they seemed reluctant to tell me what was available- so I don't know if there were more available that I didn't see.Rachel B. | First Impressions

The building is a confusing maze and honestly is pretty impractical for larger moves. Moving out with a trailer instead of a truck meant having to take the carts to an elevator (which was often in use, adding extra tedium), downstairs, and out to the loading dock. The biggest issue I have is that when I originally reserved, it was for a smaller unit, not up any stairs, and $89/month. When I arrived with my U-Haul truck full of belongings, I was told that there was a glitch in the system and the unit I'd reserved was not available. I had already moved, so I had no other choice but to take a larger space, up a set of stairs, for $209/mo, which was outside of my budget and which I struggled to pay. The person who checked me in that day did not care about the bait-and-switch, but service is generally good here. Shout-out to Gino who is especially helpful and awesome! Friendly and efficient help at the counter. Friendly and efficient help at return. Equipment operated perfectly. I appreciate the fact that my inputs on accurate fuel level and minor vehicle condition issues (the extremely minor body scratch or ding you want to make sure are on the condition report before you leave the lot) were easy to make during my inspection, and entered into contract. For my needs, I wouldn't go anywhere else!FRANK J.

The pickup process requires far too much back and forth for something pre-populated online. For me, my truck was not in the ready area when I arrived- so I had to go inside and ask, where I was directed back outside and up the hill to the parking lot for the truck verification step. After simply confirming the truck is there (why is this a step? Do you often lose trucks?), I have to walk back down the hill and inside to get the key. Then I have to walk back again and up the hill to the truck to check for supplies, which were of course not in the truck. I then had to go back down the hill and inside to ask for supplies, where I was directed back outside to the garage. After walking to the garage I asked for what I was missing, but was given the wrong quantity. So after my 4th trip up the hill, I had to return yet again to get the rest. Now after allllllllllll that walking and back and forth (AFTER completing all my purchase and steps on the app) I'm finally able to drive off with the rented vehicle. Upon return we'd only used 4 of the blankets out of all the supplies- but were asked if we wanted to "fold the blankets or take the cleaning charge?" A cleaning charge for folding the blankets?! Thankfully a woman from the front desk stopped by after we'd started folding and let us know it was okay to not fold the last two- which after all the back-and-forth, was very nice.Chris H.
You need to do your job and verify what and why you charge the customer for. I took the van back with more fuel than when I took it, and still got charged for the gas. 9$/gallon!! Really?? You know, the truck battery was dead and the line was long. When we came in we were the 1st and then we had to come back cuz the battery was dead. The guy at the front. I think he was African American, he didn't originally help us but recognized us and help us ahead of the ppl in line after we told him what happened. It really made moving day go from a possible bad one, to hey you know what? Not that big a deal, I got you. It was really helpful and thoughtful. He's definitely is aware of his surroundings. 1. Could not check in online through website -> had to talk to the counter reps. Was not able to get past the location check even though location services were on and I was at the right place. 2. There was pet hair all over both seats of the van. 3. When returning the van, There was no one to help me or someone who was there before me. I had to wait 5 minutes and walk to the front to find a service rep to check out my van. 4. I did not receive an email receipt or text receipt of my transaction after I returned the van. The guy just told me that my total price was 125$ but I did not receive any breakdown of the costs or receipt.Astro David A.

I called and left a reservation with this location. They told me I would need to bring my credit card in when I picked up the van. When I went to pick up the van, the same woman who made the reservation for me then said I needed to present a number for someone they could call right there on the spot as an â€œalternateâ€. It is rude and disrespectful to require someone to present this information while a line adds up behind me while they call my â€œalternateâ€. First of all, no other service has required me to provide a phone number for the company employee to call right then and there, not even a rental car company with is a similar situation as this - a uhaul vehicle rental. Second, they should have told me this on the phone when I made the reservation. This is totally unnecessary to do anyways. Not one ounce of understanding of my concerns from the customer service woman nor the store manager. Poor business practices and policies.Nathan P.

The staff were very helpful and courteous. Manager Gene Carr was particularly helpful in resolving a billing issue quickly and accurately. Pick up and drop off were both very easy at this location. This is not the fault of the local U-Haul but it is not clear that we are supposed to have had an emergency contact ready. Of the three people in line to pick up vehicles, none of us knew that this was necessary and so we were all unprepared and this made the check-in process go very long. The employees go above and beyond when necessary and are able to deal with very rude customer's with a smile and professionalism. Most employees were friendly and helpful. Some had an attitude. Wasn't that big of a deal, but I noticed it. For instance the day I moved my things out of storage, I went to the counter to let them know and close my account. They did not inform me to make sure I return to the office so that they can do a walk through and make sure the unit is empty and clean. Or if they did, it was not clear to me because of their attitude. What happened was I packed up the truck, removed the truck and then drive out of their, thinking I had already informed them of my leave and was good to go. When I received an email stating I'm late on my storage payment, I was confused. Uhaul also notified my employer who I put down as an emergency contact, so that was embarrassing because he asked me what's going on with Uhaul. I got on the phone to take care of it, expecting some more attitude and hassle. The woman who ultimately closed my account was surprisingly very helpful and courteous, reducing my fee to half which that was above and beyond my expectations and I absolutely appreciate that.Kelsea S. | Overall Experience

After payment my credit card was not returned, stolen and used for fraudulent transactions at Costco and Safeway so my experience this time is ti ted by this unacceptable incidentâ€¦ There is definitely in investigations to do in this branch by HRâ€¦ My bank will investigate, I contacted the management of UHaul at HQ to inform them of the even in this Bryant SF branch and one of the law firms handling the class action lawsuit for breach of privacy ongoing. The back door was open when I received the van, and there was some trash left in the back. It looked like a homeless person had been sleeping in it. I did a mobile checkout on the app, which didn't work in the slightest. After I found the thing, another couple came up with keys to the van I was assigned. I had to go back to the front desk to get a new van, and I wasn't able to submit evidence correctly. Everything ended up working out at checkout, and I had my own pictures of everything, but I was scared the whole time that I was going to be scammed. Absolutely terrible experience. Great customer service. Gene has always been a very professional and smart manager, he knows how to treat customers the right way, like managers are supposed to. The cleaning staff are aways working hard to keep this place clean, and i've seen through all these years how dirty some customers can be, but they make this place look like brand new, everyday. There was a crowd of bystanders standing out front of the Uhaul location that I went to.Men who looked capable of moving my furniture but I felt they were too aggressive. They followed me into the store and looked over my shoulder into my purse. I got nothing that I paid for. After my key disappeared I abandoned my goals of moving into storage. I was approached by a gentleman claiming to be a locksmith who also asked me to go to the bank. The moving helpers that I hired ($205) were inadequate looking and I felt scammed. The area is hot and difficult to load and unload packages. There are only two places to park with no ramp only stairs. It was very difficult to move in. The access door doesn't work properly I have to swipe my card at least 3 times before the door opens. The staff wasn't very friendly either. My storage door kept sending off the alarm and I told the clerk and he said that was normal but it's not! It was very embarrassing and scary! The U-Haul storage facility on Bryant St. in SF was a huge upgrade from from my prior storage rental in SF The U-HAUL's facility's common areas were well lit; well maintained ;and kept very clean. I was also paying a lower rate - so a much better value. My prior storage facility allowed vagrants and people loitering at or near the facility - so there were safety issues in addition to fumes and dirt. I had this unit for more than 8 years, and everytime I've needed help with anything, the staff here have been a delight to work with. Starting with helping me coordinate the shipment of the pods, renting a truck and renting the storage unit, to any subsequent time that I needed a truck or van to shuffle my things around, every transaction was easy and everyone was always friendly. The building and the unit were easy to access and felt secure, and a truck was available each time I needed to rent one. I've been so impressed, and I'm very happy with my experience. - van return process not intuitive: the drop-off instructions require access to the van, but they are displayed in the key box. I only saw the instructions after returning the key - elevators are unintuitive and a major bottleneck - it takes a long time to access the storage unit: there should be shorter routes - there should be more dollies and carts available for dropoff use. Rat fece's we're everywhere I had to request a broom and dust pan and clean the entire area soooooo disgusting! There is no light inside the unit which led to my partner being seriously injured when he slipped on a rat trap inside the unit when we were moving in. The staff was not helpful during that time and refused to extend our truck rental time even though we spent 2 hours in the emergency room before we could use the truck. Since then, however, the staff has been kind. The manager is very friendly and flexible. Although the facility is a little cumbersome to navigate, I was happy with the late hours of operation.
