Upon my returned within the one day (24hr) period the store was lacking a manager and personnel to attend the public. Upon arrival of one employee I delivered the truck keys within the 24 hrs period and I just received the receipt two days later charging me for two days rental. This is not acceptable nor fair from a major corporation. Request to credit my receipt by one day rental.Alexander C.
The worst experience at uhaul I have ever had. They left a newbie up front who didn't know anything, and laughed when I told him my movers were there waiting and getting paid by the hour. The newbie told us the GM must not be onsite, so we couldn't get anyone to help us. I want y'all to refund my movers, train your new hires, and figure out a system for not keeping dozens of customers waiting with no solutions. Staff should please be careful driving carts around parking lot. One of our cars was nearly hit by a cart. Otherwise, our experience was great and we would rent again when the need arises. I worked with Austin at the local facility. He was fabulous with really great customer service skills. He helped me switch from a smaller unit to larger one. Found a perfect fit for what I needed. The day of the move, i also had help from the general manager (recognize from photo on website). He was also very friendly and helpful. Check the inside to make sure it had been cleaned. I had to sweep it out before loading. Didn't realize I would be charged for mileage even though I put more gas in the tank than I had in it when I picked it up. I was supposed to get $5.95 back from a review of the loaders I hired, and didn't get that. Didn't open on time either - 15 minutes late. When i got the truck back to the appartment i was moving from i found that there was chunks of mud all in the cargo area. I had to go power wash it out and dry it by hand just so i could put my housing goods in it. Also the dolly did not have a seal on it and the latch was broken so the dolly was flying around when the truck was empty. When i returned the truck i told the young lady behind the desk and all she did was blame a different employee. And that was all that was said. Improve communication. It was impossible for both me and your customer service representatives to get a hold of anyone at the Waukee location, including management. It took at least 90 minutes of waiting on hold to still not get in touch with someone. Any time I had to communicate I had to drive to U-haul to speak with someone, since I couldn't manage my order online or get in touch over the phone. Delivery times were never specific, so several times they showed up later than expected. I never want to interact with this location again and might not want to deal with U-Haul at all in the future. This experience have been aggravating and you need to improve communication.Casey G.

The van I used sounded like the engine wanted to cut off when it was idling. Otherwise, the rental was fine. I just kept the truck running! I did note that issue on my online return, to have it looked at. I've been stuck with a broken down UHaul. Moving is enough of a hassle!Marieta P.

Inspect minor equipment prior to rental. The appliance dolly I received had a bent tension handle which stopped it from catching and preventing proper tension on the strap. I made the cashier aware of this when I returned my equipment and no effort was made to make this right.RYON M.

The boys working the desk were so unprofessional. One young man was on a speaker phone talking rudely about how dumb the girl was outside working. The truck I was given sounded terrible. Needed maintenance. My gas tank was just below 3/4 so I filled it up just below 3/4 and I still got charged for gas. I will never go back to this location again. The Hickman U-Haul location in Waukee is by far the best facility, most efficient check in - check out experience I have ever had with U-Haul. I have rented several trailers over the years moving our kids around and other needs and I have usually been caught in delays and long lines. Even with a long line the day I check in, it was a breeze getting in and out and on my way... They have it figured out quite well at the Hickman location....BRUCE H.
The boxes were not all delivered by uhaul but my moving help movers. They could only grab 2 at a time. The uhaul trailer was broken, I guess. The boxes were quite small and my furniture would not fit, not even my bed mattresses! I sent the boxes back without my processions and now am scrambling to get my stuff move on time. I would not recommend uboxes to anyone. Too small!!!Monica R.

Even after doing online checkin and having rented the same equipment a few times this year checkin is still kind of slow. Would like to be able to show a bar code from online checkin and go right to equipment pickup. Note that after hours return through the mobile app is very quick and painless. This location has a very convenient place to drop off. Overall a clean and convenient place to rent. Will do so again.Christopher H.
It's hard to know how to answer the above questions, because there is nothing wrong with this particular location, it is U-Haul's whole system that needs major work. I would recommend this location if someone really wants to rent from U-Haul, but other than the reasonable cost, I would NOT recommend U-Haul. First off, even though I reserved 2 furniture dollies weeks in advance, there was only one available when I arrived, which was a huge inconvenience with the items we needed to move. How hard would it be to have a few extra dollies available?? The horrible practice of reserving trucks or equipment well in advance with absolutely no guarantee that what you reserved will be there for you when you arrive is as absurd as it is awful! This is not the first time I have had a similar experience with U-Haul. I once reserved a truck about 30 miles away because it was the closest place, only to be called a few days before the move and told that one that size would not be available at that location and instead I would need to pick one up TWO hours from home. I live in the very NW corner of Iowa, and there were numerous locations much closer than 2 hours away, in either South Dakota or Minnesota, but when I mentioned that possibility, the worker's reply was. "That's not my territory." Only because I insisted she find a way to look in a different state was she able to find another truck about the same distance away as the original one I had reserved. Great system when the customer can find a closer location than the U-Haul workers can! The other problem is the stupid system were you can't call a local dealer with a simple question or a problem. Even if you call the local number, you get routed to someone far away and put on hold. We had a problem today, and tried to call the dealer a few miles away, only to get the centralized number. I was on hold so long that we were able to get in the car and drive to the local dealer before someone answered at the 800 number. When I told the person I had just arrived back at the dealer and didn't need her help now, she tried to keep me on the line to see if she could help me with something else, like tell me storage rental rates! Again, what kind of customer service is that? Also, the truck we had today was overall in OK shape, but was badly in need of a new muffler. It was louder than anything I've ever driven since the old 1940s John Deere tractor we had 50+ years ago! The cost is reasonable, but an awful lot about U-Haul's huge and cumbersome system leaves so much to be desired that I'll certainly think twice before using them again!!Kathleen S.

returned trailer, same day I picked it up. to small for what I needed it for. Guy told me that he would only charge me for one day. picked up at noon and returned at 4pm. Lady called me tuesday, wanted to know when I was bringing it back. I told her what happened, she said ,it was returned and it had already been rented out, thats why it was not showing there, said I would only be billed one day, got bill , for the whole 7 days, not right. tried to call, 35 min wait not right. Dropped the trailer off on time on a Monday at12:30 - the young kid didn't check it in. Get a call on Tuesday asking where the trailer is! - Headed back to the location in Waukee , Iowa to find out what's going on and get a receipt this time. Young kid says he didn't check us in , but remembers us- another little snot takes over and says he will correct the problem and send me an email. I said I'll wait for a receipt! Didn't know we had to use a certain keypad to sign-in so we kept getting access denied. Was put on a second floor without the elevator working. When we opened our storage it triggered the alarm. Here is a copy of the email I sent while waiting to get my storage unit issue handled. The store in Waukee IA is 0 for 2. First I was charged an extra day on my truck rental. I requested a refund but have not received it yet. Then I rented a storage unit and when I went to use it, the unit had a customer lock and a delinquency lock on it. I waited for more than 30 minutes before I was able to get help. It was after hours but that is not my fault. The guy that was helping sighed the entire time. Again, not my fault. Facility is a mess and manager doesn't care to fix the problems. Manager won't respond to urgent faults at the facility such as unable to access unit on move in day. Alarm kept blaring every 15 minutes on move out day which was obnoxious for a 2 hour move out. Inconsistencies with billing leading to late fees when autopay was never set up correctly. I can't say enough just how grateful I am for the employee who checked us in to our storage unit. We had a rough start to our move- the truck rental location in Cedar Rapids didn't have the truck we reserved, so we had to drive to Iowa City for a truck, and then back to Cedar Rapids to load and move, giving us a late start. After we loaded and were on the road, we hit gridlocked traffic due to a wreck. Altogether, we ended up at the storage location twenty minutes after close. An employee was headed toward his car, but saw us walk up to the door and asked if he could help, even though I'm sure he was off and ready to go home already. We told him what happened and he went out of his way to check us into the storage unit we reserved and get us set up. He was amazingly kind and courtesy. I have been to this uHaul location a couple of times to rent moving trucks. This is the first time I've gone there to rent a storage unit. The staff were really helpful. It took a while to get my unit, but the first person who helped me credited me with one month free for the inconvenience, which I really appreciated. My key card didn't work when I tried it, but someone else helped me change the key card to one that did, and he tested it out before he gave it to me, which was great. Then, when I returned to put things in my unit today, the same person who helped me with my card saw that I was having trouble getting into the loading garage, and he ran over immediately to open the garage door for me. I'm sure it was my own error and I'm grateful for his courtesy going above and beyond to assist me! The storage unit it self was good, but the workers were not helpful, all we heard was, I can't do that, meaning, management has to do that, Justen if even you would of helped, but you wasn't there half the time, we moved out on the May 28th NOT June 1st, so wrong again, we want our money back, you said you weren't charging us the couple days, after May 19th you wrote that on your business card, and we have it, we had to call our bank and contact the fraud Department and your worker told them what was going on, very poor place and workers, VERY POOR, I hope someone else from corporate calls me, but I am sure it's just going to you and will be seen by anyone else. I am not sure why you treated us so poorly, but I feel sorry for the next person. All we wanted was our money YOU promised us and would not close us out. The bay doors don't work. I have been there twice and and had to back up and go to another door before it would open. The front desk manager did a great job and I had no issues with him. There is someone sleeping in the indoor bay. The first night I went there, there was a van parked in there and a guy was sleeping. The second time he had the same van but was not in the front seat. I would not let my wife go there on her own due to this guy hanging out and sleeping. I also drove into the bay and the door to the storage facility opened without me using my card. There were buckets all over the second floor catching water and several empty units had the doors open with buckets catching water. I would encourage you to better train your folks at your front desk with your program. They were nice to me, not so much to each other, but I think they were just frustrated not knowing for sure how to get me or the other customers in our units in a timely fashion. I offered to just go online as there was much confusion on their part and no resource for them to turn to for help. Received excellent direction and assistance the day I did my load out (9-24). Very courteous and professional. My experience for rental and load in was abysmal - took over an hour Just waiting, activating my account/card, and finally unloading. The day prior to renting a storage unit I had rented a small 4×8 cargo trailer and the move was intense and stressful. I was 6 hours out and the store I was going to was going to close the minute I got there. The staff were amazing and stayed 30 minutes after close to insure I was set for this move.
