Didn't know we had to use a certain keypad to sign-in so we kept getting access denied. Was put on a second floor without the elevator working. When we opened our storage it triggered the alarm. We didn't have a lock as stated a free one was to be provided. First off if the customer requests to pickup at one location, like 4001 SE 14th St. Des Moines, IA 50320, don't put the truck on the other side of the city. Second, if the customer is driving from Iowa to North Carolina don't give them a truck with just 3/8 tank of gas and no cruise control.Aaron H.

I will never recommend UHaul to anyone. We had a breakdown and had to change our contract. I could not get anyone to talk to me on the phone. They said I had to go on line. Once online there was nowhere to change the drop off site. Back to trying to get a human on the phone once I did they told me I had to call back when scheduling was opened the next day! Let's just say customer service was not very helpful, felt like I was in the 7th circle of hell spinning my wheels.Eugene M.

Your mobile check-in process is a disaster. Further, once I was finally ready for the keys, there was no one in the office to get them for me--zero employees in evidence. The only part of this that went smoothly was returning the truck; the guy who helped me return it was great.Jonathan C.
The 6' x 12' trailer I was supposed to have never showed up and I was given a different one that was just dropped off and wasn't cleaned out. I waited for an hour and a half before the trailer showed up. Since a trailer for me to rent showed up late I asked the U haul employee that was helping me when I needed it back by. I was supposed to have it for 24 hours, but that would have me bringing it back after 5:00 pm on Sunday and they would be closed. He told me to just leave it at the drop-off point if I would be after 5:00 and I wouldn't be charged a late fee. I did as he asked but could not get the U haul app to check in the trailer. I called U haul and told them what had happened. The U-haul employee on the call said she would put notes down on when I dropped it off. I received an email receipt today from U-Haul and I was charged for an extra day. Why the late fee U-Haul when I called and told the rep what had happened. I am very disappointed in my service this time.Michael L.

I had reserved a truck for 7-9am and when I got there at 7 the doors were locked. There was only one worker so it took 20 minutes for me to get the truck and I still had to have to truck back at 9.MADISON B.

Here is a copy of the email I sent while waiting to get my storage unit issue handled. The store in Waukee IA is 0 for 2. First I was charged an extra day on my truck rental. I requested a refund but have not received it yet. Then I rented a storage unit and when I went to use it, the unit had a customer lock and a delinquency lock on it. I waited for more than 30 minutes before I was able to get help. It was after hours but that is not my fault. The guy that was helping sighed the entire time. Again, not my fault. Our uhaul reservation indicated a furniture mover in addition to the dolly in the truck and it didn't get put in there. Also the uhaul had a check engine light on. We didn't have any issues with the actual truck.WILLIAM K.

Overall my experience was less than satisfactory. We started by waiting almost 45 minutes on the app to receive confirmation that our truck was ready after arriving at the location. The truck was not cleaned out as we were told and moving supplies covered the inside of the truck and it was not swept at all. Once we got in the truck and pulled away we noticed that the seat belt was broken but had waited so long and therefore we were behind. The ramp did not pull put well and the dolly was giving us a lot of issues throughout the entire move. We filled up to bring it back and placed the gas levels exactly where it was before and were charged because it was not at "full" we spent almost another half hour going back and fixing it to find the next morning that it was not fixed as they had claimed. We had to make yet another trip back and it was supposedly fixed so we will see if it actually goes back in the account.natasha M.

Facility is a mess and manager doesn't care to fix the problems. Manager won't respond to urgent faults at the facility such as unable to access unit on move in day. Alarm kept blaring every 15 minutes on move out day which was obnoxious for a 2 hour move out. Inconsistencies with billing leading to late fees when autopay was never set up correctly. Only one person was working and was overwhelmed by customers. I stood in line for 40 minutes to be helped. At one point, there were 6 people in line behind me. Some eventually left. In my opinion, there should always be two people at this site as it always seems busy when I've been there. Another problem is the technology being used by the team to process a reservation/sale. Do NOT trust the Uhaul reservation system! Call Penske or Ryder now! Moving is a big deal to organize but Uhaul doesn't care - they will email you the day before a move after you reserved two trucks over a month prior to inform you they don't have trucks. Then you'll have to drive 90 miles to pick up a truck - I'll never rent from Uhaul again - learn from my mistake!Paul A.

I can't say enough just how grateful I am for the employee who checked us in to our storage unit. We had a rough start to our move- the truck rental location in Cedar Rapids didn't have the truck we reserved, so we had to drive to Iowa City for a truck, and then back to Cedar Rapids to load and move, giving us a late start. After we loaded and were on the road, we hit gridlocked traffic due to a wreck. Altogether, we ended up at the storage location twenty minutes after close. An employee was headed toward his car, but saw us walk up to the door and asked if he could help, even though I'm sure he was off and ready to go home already. We told him what happened and he went out of his way to check us into the storage unit we reserved and get us set up. He was amazingly kind and courtesy. I have been to this uHaul location a couple of times to rent moving trucks. This is the first time I've gone there to rent a storage unit. The staff were really helpful. It took a while to get my unit, but the first person who helped me credited me with one month free for the inconvenience, which I really appreciated. My key card didn't work when I tried it, but someone else helped me change the key card to one that did, and he tested it out before he gave it to me, which was great. Then, when I returned to put things in my unit today, the same person who helped me with my card saw that I was having trouble getting into the loading garage, and he ran over immediately to open the garage door for me. I'm sure it was my own error and I'm grateful for his courtesy going above and beyond to assist me! The storage unit it self was good, but the workers were not helpful, all we heard was, I can't do that, meaning, management has to do that, Justen if even you would of helped, but you wasn't there half the time, we moved out on the May 28th NOT June 1st, so wrong again, we want our money back, you said you weren't charging us the couple days, after May 19th you wrote that on your business card, and we have it, we had to call our bank and contact the fraud Department and your worker told them what was going on, very poor place and workers, VERY POOR, I hope someone else from corporate calls me, but I am sure it's just going to you and will be seen by anyone else. I am not sure why you treated us so poorly, but I feel sorry for the next person. All we wanted was our money YOU promised us and would not close us out. The bay doors don't work. I have been there twice and and had to back up and go to another door before it would open. The front desk manager did a great job and I had no issues with him. There is someone sleeping in the indoor bay. The first night I went there, there was a van parked in there and a guy was sleeping. The second time he had the same van but was not in the front seat. I would not let my wife go there on her own due to this guy hanging out and sleeping. I also drove into the bay and the door to the storage facility opened without me using my card. There were buckets all over the second floor catching water and several empty units had the doors open with buckets catching water. We reserved a 15 x 10 Unit on the first floor knowing that we had a lot of heavy items. We arrived at the appropriate time to move into a rental unit and we were told they did not have any 15 x 10 units available at all they only had 10 x 10 units and they had none available on the first floor. They had a 10 x 10 available on the second floor we would have to bring all of our items up a set of stairs And then down a long hallway. When I asked about why we made the reservation she said that it was policy that they just give the units to people as they arrive so it was first come first serve. When I inquired why do I make a reservation at all then she did not know why this was the policy. Very unhappy did not choose to rent a unit there after all. If I had known the only way to access the second floor is by a single stair case, I would have chose a different facility. I have to move my stuff from the car to a cart, wheel it inside, carry everything up the stairs and load it into a second cart, and then push it to the far end of the second floor, where there is another staircase that can't be used?
