Horrible experience once again. Booked a 15' truck several days in advanced, less than 24hrs before hand I check the site and see my reservation was CHANGED without notifying me. It went from an out of town return to a same town return. What!? With less than 24hrs and NO notice?! My truck was given to someone else and this one can't be returned elsewhere? That's NOT a reservation. Also the pickup location was changed, again zero contact. I had to rent a 6x12 trailer and buy a new hitch hookup to accommodate it. The trailer wasn't nearly big enough, again I was supposed to have a 15' truck. So needless to say this now causes me more trips, more rentals, and can only HOPE that my rental is actually available IF I even ever use uHaul again. Also, this same crap happened a month ago when we reserved a 26' truck. The truck was given to someone else and we had to drive 45mins each way, out of our way, to get a truck that was supposed to have been 2 miles away!! The key was not left in the vehicle. There was no employee on site at the time we arrived. An employee came shortly after and was able to assist us. I feel if he had not showed up we would not have been able to pick up the vehicleDenise R.
This review is reference order numbers 23191342 and 23190979. About 3 weeks ago, I reserved a 26' truck from Plainfield IL for 10-2 at 8am. On Thursday 9-30, I received a voicemail and email stating my reservation had been â€œupdated â€œ for a new pick up location (Streamwood IL) and time (1030am). After receiving this update, I attempted the number associated with changing reservations ( 6304057455 ) only to be left on hold for approximately 15 minutes each time I called (total calls attempted: 6) and automatically being disconnected. Due to the short notice of the location and time change, I was eager to speak with a representative for some kind of resolution but was left unattended after several phone calls. Streamwood is approximately 30 miles from my desired pickup location, but at this point I settled for the change know that moving trucks were in high demand. On the day of my move, however, I received a voicemail from the Plainfield location stating they are waiting for me and that I am going to lose my reservation. I again was unsuccessful in contacting anyone from uhaul in an effort to address this confusion. I ultimately traveled 30 miles to Streamwood to pick up the truck and spoke with â€œKevin â€œ who advised he did not know why I had 2 reservation numbers. Kevin advised I would not be compensated for all the extra gas I spent this day but credited me 30 miles. The credit did not cover the extra gas I spent traveling to Streamwood both in my personal car and the rented vehicle. I would not have this issue if my reservation was left as is for the Plainfield location. My complaint is as follows: Uhaul was unable to address an issue created on their end and has a very poor customer service system in place. Again, while I understand the demand for moving trucks is high, the fact that there was a truck ready for me at my initial preferred location and time is upsetting. This is my first negative experience with Uhaul, but unfortunately will be my last as I have learned that Uhaul has a very poor system in place for issues that seem rather easy to fix.CARLOS T.
Your locations are excellent. The 800 number customer service was unresponsive for over 20 minutes twice and when I spoke to an agent two times they were on the edge of rude. I would not rent from you again if the locations were not so friendly and welcoming. The drop off informations on the forms were unclear. The message said that after hours were not available but when I got to the location there was a 24/7 drop off point. Very disappointing.JUDY F.

We got a check engine line 5 miles from our home; could not get an answer on the phone; your 800 number is always busy and we didn't have an hour to sit and the phone and wait; we had a long trip ahead of us. Your website is difficult to use and it would not let us to get to any immediate help. So we went down the street to the next U-Haul location, Rt. 59, Aurora, IL. They checked it out and said it was safe to drive and keep going.Darrell T.
Great customer service from person whom I returned the equipment. Manager of this location needs more people's skills. At the time of leasing the truck, he just handed over the keys and asked to do everything by ourselves using APP which was difficult to navigate. Check all tires and equipment before having a customer check. We got a flat tire within only 10 minutes of leaving uHaul pick up location, with no incident to cause it. It took a little over 2 hours to actually get help with roadside assistance and being 9 months pregnant, this was very upsetting.Joseph K.

There was no where to park when I picked up my truck. The attendant was over whelmed and very rude. There were 10+ people waiting. I had ride share pick up and was still there for 45 minutes. I barely made it back in time for my return because of the delay. I will never use this location again. There should be a notice when renting that parking is unavailable.Dominic H.

The text link that was sent to me just after check in to report any damage or issues did not work, so I could not report that the rubber door liner on the driver side was almost completely off or that the gas tank was only at 3/8 instead of 1/2 a tank. When I pointed out the gas tank issue to Kevin upon return of the vehicle, he talked to me like I was an idiot, saying I should have reported it in the link that was sent to me. When I pointed out that I couldn't report it because the link was not working, he brushed me off. So even though I got a vehicle that was 3/8 full of gas, I still had to bring it back at 1/2 a tank or face a fine. I did not enjoy this experience, and I don't like that I spent $117 to be talked to like I was an idiot.SCOTT M.

Pick up time 11am. I arrived 11 and waited in lobby to be helped. 11:01 received call and voice mail (phone on do not disturb) and it was Uhaul calling saying the previous renter had not returned the trailer. Was given $50 credit and manager found another trailer nearby that was supposed to be available. I appreciate him helping. It would have been more helpful if Uhaul did not schedule back to back rental. If a customer does not return the item it lets Uhaul contact the next person before they make a drive, which for me was over an hour.RUTH L.

Rafael in Streamwood was very friendly and helpful. Aside from that my pickup experience was infuriating. The 24/7 pick up process was a complete pain in the ass. I arrived at 5:50 for my 6:00 a.m. pick up. Started the process of trying to pick up my equipment. It said to go to the U-Haul website and start the process, so I did. Both the website and the application told me they could not pick up my location so I was forced to stick in the barcode. Neither the website or the app could pick up the barcode. At this point I've been trying to do this for about 20 minutes. I reached out to chat support who then directed me to upload my driver's license (which I already did two days ago) that took another 5 minutes or so. After that, I was asked to provide alternate contact information so I did that and still could not get in. Once that was completed and confirmed, they asked me for yet another alternate contact. Since it was 6:30 a.m. on a Saturday my alternate contact did not pick up and my chat associate let me know that. I told them that it was because of the time of day they were asking me to do that... 630 am on a Saturday and my contact was likely sleeping. Because this whole process was now over 30 minutes, I tried to contact the location manager. I expressed my frustration to that person and they let me know that luckily the building manager was on the way. Once he arrived, I was able to finish the rest of the process.. almost an hour after I got there.. defeating the entire purpose for me picking up early. The only step that I knew to take ahead of time was to upload my license, which I did. Had I known all of the other things needed to be done I would have waited to make sure I could have been helped by a building manager. My suggestion? Make it clear on what needs to be done ahead of time and provide a simple QR Code or a code to a lock box like everyone else does these days. I would have had no trouble doing any of this beforehand. You sent a text for the drivers license upload but didn't care to tell me that 2 alternate contacts, a reupload of a driver's license, and a broken location recognition process would hold me up when I got there. I'm glad that at least Rafael and the equipment were good so that at least made up for some of the frustration. Also.. get a parking lot.Tyler C.

The evening checkin agent should value a customers time. Not spending 25 plus minutes on a vehicle to sanitize it, put air in tires, sweep it, fiddle around with it and disappear in the back parking lot while a line of customers wait all the way out into traffic on lake street. Cleaning and arranging should wait until after customers have left. Then to treat you like a dumbass because you are trying to pull in the lot to safety of traffic is unacceptable. We had to drop trailer in lot without receipt because your agent was incompetent to deal with more than one vechicle every 1/2 hour or so at his convience. Uhaul guaranteed our reservation at another location ended up sending us to 2 more locations driving 25 plus miles outta of the way to get a trailer that wasnt even what we reserved. To top that off we tried to drop trailer at another location in Arlington heights because the trailer was not towing properly swaying all over . Checked online for tow rating and saw trailer was to large for my vechicle was reason swaying. General Manager of that Arlington Heights location said we could drop unsafe trailer but would have to pay $164 relocation charge if we did. Ridicilous , no concern for safety just need fee to relocate. Then return to incompetent attendant at Lake Street Streamwood location was icing on the cake. Our Uhaul experience was the worst customer interaction we have had the unfortunate time to endure. We assure you it will be a very long time if ever we will use your non-service company again. Ryder and Hertz have just earned new customers thanks to your Guarantees never seen or offered for the waste of our time this day. Respetfully submitted, Your now former customersSTACY M.

Due to the first of the month the place was very busy and only one person working to assist customers. They had to call another person to verify who you were, no identification asked for at the service desk.Al J.
This was my WORST experience with Uhaul, and l'm really really upset that the BAD service was only the start, returning the equipment was a completely different experience, it ended very well. I made very specific request to make my entire transition a lot less stressful moving from IL to AZ. A small truck for a single bedroom, ramp for my motorcycle and another piece of equipment to tow my car. Rod my motorcycle because it was necessary to load that before the trailer is attached. Once the trailer is attached the ramp is no-longer accessible. The original site didn't have the right equipment NO RAMP. Uhaul directed me to another location, this time 3rd party-site. Arrived to location, the door is locked, found a window knocked for service. I was forced to upgrade sizes from 10ft-15ft truck, DIDN'T NEED THAT MUCH SPACE, but okay. I'm just happy to have equipment at this point, loaded the motorcycle strapped it down, off the get the trailer at a completely different location before it closes due to business hours of operations.MARCUS D.

After returning the truck, the final receipt was emailed to me. I wasn't carrying a phone to check the charges. When I got home, I found that a hand truck was added to my bill by mistake. I called the agent and was told I had to go through customer service to have the charge removed. I tried calling customer service, the recorded message said 20 minutes for the next operator, I hung up after 47 minutes having received no help. I then used the online chat featureâ€¦a little slow to have someone connectâ€¦but it did work and the charge was removed. I would recommend that the agent at the rental office be required to go through the final charges before emailing the receipt if you are not providing a paper copy.ROGER S.
