SCHEDULING NEEDS TO BE AVAILABLE!!! I kept getting transferred to a line that never picked up - for 3 SOLID DAYS!!! As this review is only for that particular location, I'm being lenient as I had very little contact with them. In reality, this whole move with UHaul was the WORST experience ever!! From terrible movers (recommended by UHaul) who didn't call ahead to schedule and then kept complaining about how I didn't reserve the freight elevator (I literally could not because of their negligence), to terrible packing that broke my things, to having my container delivered to the WRONG location (UHaul's fault), then several days of being on hold, being charged and refunded and charged again, transferred on phone lines repeatedly, delivery times constantly changing and inaccurateâ€¦it was a nightmare. I won't be using or recommending UHaul again any time in the near future.Nikki B.

Returning these crates was unnecessarily difficult. I spent 2 hours on the phone being passed between 1-800 representatives, unable to speak to anyone actually present at the store. Additionally, none of the automated prompts mentioned the plastic crates I had rented, so there was no smooth path to an expert in my product. As a result, no one was able to give me a definitive answer to either of my questions: - Could someone return the crates on my behalf - Could I return the crates to a different location Furthermore, one person I spoke to explicitly did say I would be able to return to any other Uhaul Center (with Moving & Storage in the name). However, when I attempted to do so at a location more convenient to my destination address, I was told it was not possible. This wasted valuable hours of my moving time traveling between locations and trying to get a straight answer, ultimately having to return my crates on a separate day than I had planned. To improve for future customers, set up a direct phone number to each store where you can speak to individuals who can provide accurate information. Being passed between contact center representatives, when each location clearly operates so differently, is absolutely infuriating and a waste of everyone's (albeit well-intentioned) time.Marissa H.

Location was hard to find since the address is. on cermak but the office is a block south of that. The direction signs instruct where to go with returning â€œequipmentâ€ why anyone know that includes â€œtrucksâ€ also they only had doly's for appliances and not for furniture the dolly was also rusty looking . Cover for the furniture was just blankets and not the right cover seen on uhaul's website or in storesSharon R.

We ordered boxes which never arrived in time for the move. We tried contacting U-haul for a refund but the wait times were over an hour. We still need our 30$ back. Also, we were charged 30$ for furniture padding which we did not need and did not know we signed up for it.Aniket T.

Once again received less than a half tank of gas, had to refill before even reaching my destination. Of course, I overfilled and returned the van with an extra quarter tank in it, no credit given for that. Lastly, the back of the van had debris in it left over from the previous renter. Better positive customer service. Service already overall is good and Jason the manager is fantastic at resolving issues. Yet today the young man that was there by him self early morning 7 am has a negative attitude and a bit snippy. I asked for his name so my boss can call in the payment and knew who to talk to. When she called. , his answer was â€œ you see I' m the only one hereâ€ it felt like he didn't want to be bothered. And I had to figure out how to go about the situation rather than having the full positive helpfull service I'm used to with uhaul. I love this location otherwise.HECTOR G.

I was given a unit on the 2 floor that wasn't clean and had a fairly large rat trap in it. The uhaul representative was working the front desk alone, so she was unable to show the unit. I received the first month free with my uhaul truck purchase, so she just processed the reservation and gave me directions to get to the unit. After seeing the unit, I immediately wanted to cancel. I went back to the office and she apologized and gave me a unit on the 7th floor. The units were recently renovated and clean so I decided to keep the storage unit.DION H. | First Impressions

The Chicago location was fine, but they would only send 1 container at a time to be loaded. That meant that there was only one mover there to load while the other went to get a container and drop it off once the first was done. These movers were good and recommended by Moving Help. In Cathedral City, CA I was not happy. Again only one container was let go and I received a call from the location asking for my credit card because they needed it to release the second container. I did not want to give this out over the phone to some random person that called me and it took a while to resolve. Apparently, they were not able to close the account properly because I have now been charged for a second month of storage (Feb 12-March11), even though I returned everything on Feb 3. If my experience was like Chicago, I would probably use the services again. My experience in Cathedral City makes it unlikely that I will use a U-Box again. I've used POD twice in the past with no issues and thought I would see how U-Haul was. I'll go back to POD next time, even if it is a bit more money. Both of the moving companies recommended by Moving Help were good. That was the best part of the experience.sara B.

Daniel helped me set up my storage locker, he walked me through all the steps and showed me all my options and prices to store my 1 bed apartment full of items and furniture. The storage facility was newly constructed, well equipped and maintained professionally. The team is very quick to dismiss questions. I asked what storage unit would be best for a full size couch and clothing and a few boxes and was told "step to the right and make your decision" I asked if there was a common unit for someone moving a few items and was told from someone differently. Our storage unit ended up being very easy to get to, and there were carts that helped us get everything efficiently! Only small snag was that the first space we selected was actually a really strange shape (not rectangular) with a support column making an 18" x 18" space in the unit unusable. Supposedly climate controlled on my floor, but it was always super hot - in the 90s at least! (July-August) Even at night, after sunset and it was cool outside. Being there for very long, especially lifting heavy items, was leading to heat exhaustion. Clean, but not well maintained. (Still under construction so there were no lights in my area until the day I moved out, and construction materials every where.) Elevator does not align with floor on my level, so getting carts in/out, especially full/weighted, was nearly impossible at times and items often fell in the attempt to get in/out of the elevator. Carts are badly designed with a weird center wheel that is larger than the others which also made operating them difficult. One cart was even missing a front wheel. Two TV shows film there all the time and have a set in the building (seriously, they do), so access was a constant problem. The street was almost always blocked off by the police, day and night. Even when the police weren't there, all of the crew's big trailers and trucks were. Plus the people and their equipment were usually blocking most of the doors to the loading docks. It took me a week to find a time that worked for me that I could also drive into the loading dock to load my stuff. By then, I didn't have time left so instead of multiple trips in my vehicle, I had to rent a van to move it all in one trip. Also that day, one of the elevators was unavailable, plus the film crew had so much going on (and of course it was my floor they were filming on) that I was constantly waiting for the only elevator the cart could fit in. What took me less than an hour to unload at my destination took nearly 4 hours, in extreme heat, to load at the facility because of the film crew. At first the TV shows filming there was cool, but then it became a major problem for me when it was all the time. Finally, the customer service is horrible! When I moved in, I was driving in from out of state (7 hours), so arrived late in the day. The woman that checked me in said she temporarily gave me 24 hour access so I could get unloaded - I had to drive back the same night (that's a whole other issue relating to multiple Uhaul locations in another state). But come 10pm, when I was only half way done unloading (I was doing so alone, so it took a while) I was suddenly locked out of the elevators! My unit was still wide open and I couldn't even get up there to close it! Clearly the woman didn't actually do what she said she was going to do. Staff follow through is a real issue at this location. I then spent nearly an hour on hold to reach a human being, who then had to try to reach the location manager at home, which took forever (understandably he was asleep at that hour), who then gave me access from home. I was able to finish unloading, but being 2 hours behind and exhausted, I ended up having to stop at a rest stop and sleep in my vehicle on the way back. I was also late getting back home to the people waiting to help me with the next load so I could be out of my apartment by my move out time. (Multiple trips was due to problems at multiple Uhaul locations in that state.) BTW, you can't call any location directly, which is idiotic. When I moved out, I physically gave the key card to someone in the office who said she was going to close the account. The following week I was billed for the next month's rent. I had sit on hold for over 30 minutes to get this corrected, but even then they had to send a message to the facility and have them call me back, which took several hours. It was finally corrected, but it shouldn't have happened at all. Also, the van I rented that last day from this facility, there was an extra $15 charge I also had to have corrected - they are incompetent or something! I've been using Uhaul facilities and vehicles for 20 years (4 states) for all of my storage and moving needs, but this last move was the worst, most complicated, most exhausting and stressful, because of Uhaul as a whole company. I've moved to other continents 4 times, dealing with embassies and visas and shipping necessary belongings by freight ship) and none of those were even remotely as stressful and anxiety riddled as this last move has been. About 85% of the problems I had were related to Uhaul locations and phone service. I know this feedback form is for just the one location and the storage space, but it is difficult to unravel all of these Uhaul pieces from this move.Callie C. | Overall Experience

BETTER THAN THE BEST!!! I have received really good service from other Storage facilities that I rented in the past, but Uhaul on 500 W Cermak deserves the J Powell Award!!! I was over the top impressed by the Genuine Courtesy, Attentive, Professional and overall Care received and the Organized Flow ... I was referred to the 500 W Cermak facility because the Markham IL location did not have the trailer for the time period needed. Upon arrival the entire staff was SUPERB! The Clerk (I believe Ashley) was extremely helpful and she patiently sought to find the appropriate vehicle at the best price for my project, and it kept getting BETTER!! Kevin gave me super instructions on parking and ground details, and next, I truly hit the Lottery, upon returning the van, I needed a Storage unit, the main customer service center was having a challenge locating the Cermak Loop facility and when Iwas able to connect directly, BINGO!!! Fernando located a unit despite customer service saying none were available, Next, Jazmin further helped by locating a unit that I could easily slide my oversized sofa into.... My heart was racing from the intense love felt!! Finally when I was directed to sign out of the van, Daniel was very informative, attentive and kind... I would lovingly Urge anyone needing to rent a moving vehicle/trailer, or needing storage, Please Go to the Uhaul Cermak Loop Location, the Phenomenal Service will justify going out of way, may I add the Prices Are Great!! Had helped a family member with an emergancy move, booked quickly at a nearby location and had zero help until I called the reservation line and they transferred my reservation HERE!! It was not too far from where I was, so I rushed over and drove up to a smooth running operation! My anxiety dropped and I got in line, knowing that I was in the right place. The store was clean, had anything and everything you need to move. I was able to even book the storage locker when I picked up the truck, grabbed some packing tape and the rep had me buy the lock!! I wasn't even thinking about the lock! The space was perfect, unloading made easy by this location's amenities. So grateful that a stressful day turned out just right once we locked the storage locker! I really don't think I can ever use UHaul services again after the experience I had. First of all, the location I rented my truck from - nobody was there when I arrived for my 9am pickup. door locked, nobody answering the phone, I'm standing in the rain and have to Uber to the next location. Whatever. Then comes the storage unit disaster. I rented a large single unit, like 17 x 11 x 8 or something. I go to check in- "Sorry, system error. This unit does not actually exist" ????? Ok...... well all of my belongings are here and they need to go somewhere. wait over an hour for a resolution- finally given the choice of using 3 separate units to split amongst my stuff. At this point I'm furious but happy to have a place to stow stuff. I'm also getting charged double for two units, when what I reserved was half the price. Why am I being charged double for your system screw up? Explain it to me. I can't get that upset with the employees but this was so stressful I will never take the risk of dealing with U Haul again.Brian T. | First Impressions
This facility is always clean and secure. I also like that there is a sign explaining the history of the building and its conversion from a factory to storage units. Great care was put into preserving certain aspects of the building to reflect its history, and that is very unique and appreciated. Over my years as a customer, the staff has been friendly and helpful whenever I've needed to rent a truck or move into a different unit. I never worried that my unit and belongings were unsafe. The only issue I've ever had was with the U-Haul website itself, when I updated my debit card's exp. date, but it didn't automatically update my auto-payment method, resulting in a late fee. Mr. Zamora was understanding and helpful in rectifying that issue for me. I would definitely use this facility again if I need to rent a truck or unit.Andrew W. | Overall Experience
I usually don't do reviews, but your staff is awesome! The girl who was working the counter (can't remeber her name, but she was super cute with the most amazing nails ever) was super knowledgeable, friendly, and was also awesome on the phone when I had questions. Returning my rental van was also a great experience. Again, I can't remeber his name, but the gentleman who helped me was very nice and professional. I had to move out of my apartment tonight. I made it clear that I needed 24 hour access in order to get into my unit tonight. Swipe key wasn't set up properly so i couldn't enter the unit to load my belongings into my storage. I was able to get in & got to my storage to find that the lock was not removed from my unit so that I could open it and put my lock on. The staff was friendly but I am now in a very bad position. The after hours support line went to voicemail and the customer service woman told me I had to call the facility directly in order to get any help.. so now myself & my 4 year old are nearly stranded because we don't have anywhere to park this uhaul.Adia Y. | First Impressions

My unit was in the south part of the facility. There is a large bump to move carts over to get there and with a loaded cart that is difficult. I question the safety of the outermost units as it seems a trip out the window would be too easy especially with all the tripping and bumping hazards. The concrete beams are like 5'4" off the floor, way too easy to bump into. The floors in general are noisy to move carts over making the experience worse. This was my 3rd year storing with U haul. The units are fine (many weirdly shaped so always see it before committing to it) the access routine is nice and makes me feel secure. The only complaint I have is it it almost impossible to get a hold of the office staff by phone if you need something. I called 7 times and the call kept getting sent to a call center because the office staff weren't answering. The call center couldn't help me so they (on 3 different occasions) contacted the office for me and told them to call me back but no one ever did. I was finally told by the call center that I would have to go into the office personally to resolve my issue but I live out of state so that was not possible.Jill B. | Overall Experience

the floors are the main problem, they are very uneven and rough. things on carts bounce around and it's hard to control. boxes on carts are one thing but in reality people move all kinds of stuff. also the VERY low intrusions are a problem, one must be extremely careful. All my stuff were filled with dust. The sanded the floor in the corridors without covering anything and everything was filled with so much sand dust.
