Bad service from the second day of moving in Somerville. No one was available to move our U Box with forklift (apparently he was out for the afternoon) and no one wants to help us. We move it by hands and transpallet. I have picture if you need it. The U Box was shipped but I wasn't able to have info about it cause in my account online it doesn't show up.. The U Box was late 5 days in Los Angeles. 4 effective days plus one in which they book took the appointment in order to move it (even though I called at 9am. After this experience I claimed my refund ($200 / $50 per day) and instead give it to me I discovered I was charged. I spent other hours at the phone and now the issue seams fixed and I'm waiting the refund. Very tremendous month with U Haul.. and so many hours spent at the phoneRiccardo G.
Truck was in excellent condition. Very clean. Easy to navigate. Although, even with both sets of mirrors adjusted, there is a blind spot as you pull out to the left. We were very cautious. The capacity of the 15 foot truck was perfect. Easy to rent AND to return on line. Thanks for making this move smooth and flawless and for reassurance and checks all along the way. There are two basic things a moving company needs to do to hit the minimum standards of service; get there on time and get the box to the right place. It has been an ongoing nightmare for both of these things. To add insult to injury, after calling multiple times to try and resolve the issues, I was sasses for this like it was my fault. 0/0 stars and you have lost a customer for life.Michael D.

At the time of a multiday rental, your salesperson said that I can return unused boxes no questions asked. The salesperson said I did not need a receipt. After I returned the van, a different salesperson wanted a receipt. Now I am stuck with unused boxes. The van was not clean. I cleaned it myself. Sommerville, MA used to be a very good franchise. I had good experiences interacting with the phone staff both for this location and U-haul across the board. But I noted that the computer system/infrastructure often was slow or was not working on their end, and then I experienced technical issues on the U-haul site after making my order over the phone. I chose to insure my U-box, and it never went through online. I did not catch it until I got my receipt and by then it was too late, my movers had arrived for the job and somewhere in the process my brand new TV was damaged, with U-haul having no electronic record of my insurance selection. The online system is faulty and outdated, and I did not have the capacity to be on hold with U-haul during their busiest time of year in order to do it all over the phone. So overall I'm really disappointed with my broader U-haul experience, but the people I talked to on the phone for this location were great. I'm not sure I would use U-haul again, but if I do, I will do things differently in order to have better outcomes.ANNA P.
WHAT A RIDICULOUS EXPERIENCE. Our UBoxes were supposed to arrive on 8/30, and didn't until 9/10. We called dozens of times in between for updates, and received different messages from people. There was no way to know where our stuff was in transit, and no one could get in touch with the drivers? Is this the 21st century still? We were told by one person our stuff arrived on 8/31, made an appointment to pick it up, and it wasn't there. We took multiple days off work, and all of that was wasted because of miscommunication or a complete lack of communication. Horrible experience, will likely never use Uhaul again.Alex H.

More accuracy with gas gauge readout. I find it completely unacceptable that the gauge was read high when I left, and low when I came back. Where I drove 9 miles, and put in almost 1.5 gallons of gas right before checking in and still got charged for gas.ANDREW G.
I am extremely unsatisfied with my rental experience. *waited for about 35 minutes (it was busy, I understood). *Given a truck with the check engine light on. *Given a truck with zero washer fluid, that was fun when I was driving a 26 foot truck and had limited visibility. *I was told I was not allowed to drop the truck elsewhere, even though i moved 5 minutes from a Uhaul i was forced to drive 45 minutes back to drop off the Uhaul after 14 hours of moving. *I was given the truck on less than a quarter, returned very close so that point (its almost empty, why even bother if thats how it is given?) but was still charged a full tank because I did not return at the perfect level it was given to me. This was a horrible experience, at this point I am planning to never use your services again if other locations run like this. I will be sure to pass that word along to everybody in earshot until i forget this nightmare experience in customer service.MICHAEL R.

It was hard to find the employees that work there. Once we found them they worked very slowly and were very unorganized. I was given a truck that was stuck between the building and a large wooden crate. I had to talk to two different employees until one agreed to move the crate so that I could drive the truck off of the lot. One of the employees was complaining to customers about the hours that he worked and that he was late for dinner.Jesse B.

Although the initial person I spoke w/ did not process my return on the date of return, the manager Manny Campos was able to assist and took care of the transaction. Manny called me the next day after my inquiry was submitted by U-Haul customer service. He was very understanding, apologetic for any inconvenience, and processed the return within 5min. He messaged me to ensure I got the receipt. I provided the video of the day we returned the trailer. I appreciated Manny's professionalism, courtesy, and concern. Sometimes mishaps/hiccups happen, but it's how you take care and resolve them matters just as much, if not more to me. And Manny did just that. Hence the reason for my 5 start rating.SIBGHATULLAH S.

The sole worker at the front was great, but it took me waiting nearly an hour in line to get the keys to the rental. When I went up to the desk, I was informed that none of the equipment I had reserved was available including the furniture pads. I was late for the movers and my furniture was scratched and dented during the move. I want to reiterate that the employee was very professional and was as helpful as possible and he is the only reason I am not giving one star.Joseph A.

In the busyness of a move, it was clearly my fault, but it would be nice if the staff were to explain that there is a after hours drop off option. Young people will understand it and see it on their phones and such, but I didn't find it until I was waiting in line to drop off and I laughed at myself. We had a horrific experience at the pick-up U-Haul location in Somerville (151 Linwood St.). Despite the fact they made multiple mistakes, they refused to help us rectify their errors. We attempted to reason with them, but the situation continued to escalate and they behaved extremely aggressively and hostile towards us. Really really excellent service. Friendly, helpful, and efficient staff despite an extremely busy time of year. Only suggestion is to expand on-premise parking for customers renting a van or truck. Or advise customers to take public transit/ride share. 2-hour street parking is difficult to work with for vehicle rental. There was plenty of room at the facility, would require some planning but could greatly enhance value.Christopher B.

We had originally reserved a 5 x 8 trailer at the Brookline facility but had been inconveniently switched by uhaul to the Somerville location. It's a jam packed facility with almost too much business (the line was 11 customers deep!!) which delayed our trip a great deal. The staff there was amazing, friendly & helpful.PAUL B.

There was no one there to meet me when I arrived and it took a while to find an employee. It turns out he had been sitting in the truck I was about to rent with the engine and A/C running, using gas I would have to refill myself. Generally the staff did not seem interested in customer service or being proactively helpful.David R.
My U-boxes were delayed 7 days. I was never notified when the first "guaranteed" date was missed and was promised a new "guaranteed" date three different times. My one question every time I spoke to a rep was 'can you tell me where my boxes are?' and not a single person could answer with any form of confidence. I don't understand how no one has visibility into such a simple question. I also don't understand how Uhaul can provide me with "guaranteed" dates when you claim that you don't know where my boxes are. If I wasn't persistent and took the initiative to contact Uhaul every day myself, I never would have known anything because Uhaul failed to provide me with updates. The $50 a day is not nearly enough compensation to deal with the inconvenience. I was forced to sleep on the floor for a week and had to buy every single meal given all of my cooking appliances were in the U-box. Beyond disappointed with Uhaul and this experience.Katherine D.

There were two major issues with the trailer we were given. The rear lights were not functioning and the tire had a slow leak. The flat tire caused us to loose a day in our move schedule as we had to wait in western mass for a repair, and the rear lights out were pointed out to us by a police officer, so we brought it back to Somerville and traded it for a new trailer. Both conditions were first and foremost dangerous, and both conditions caused significant delays in our move schedule. Absolutely unacceptable.Vanessa H.

After finally locating the office for service, I located a staff member who seemed bored throughout the process. He achieved the task of helping me find an available space--which is hard enough with UHaul--but refused to do provide any service beyond what seemed like a rotely memorized routine. When he asked, "Anything else?" I responded, "Could you please help me move this item into my unit?" He then said, "We don't do that here. We don't move things in." And left it at that. I then struggled for the next few minutes to lift my hefty suitcase into an upper-level compartment with only a spindly step ladder on wheels to assist me. It was dangerous. I could have fallen backward. My final struggle was with the lock, but I was able to find a second staff member at that time who was much friendlier and professional. It may not have been in his job description, but he took time to step away from his desk and resolve the lock issue for me. Our overall experience was good, but Edgar went above and beyond and made our move-in SO easy and pleasant on an otherwise stressful day. He was helpful, informative, and seemed genuinely invested in making things run as smoothly as possible. Side note, he was unexpectedly alone at the beginning of the shift on Sunday with a line of people outside, and he handled it with grace and calm. He's an absolute gem, and whatever you're paying him isn't enough. ;) Thank you, Edgar! Our unit was highly trafficked by mice. We had some belongings destroyed by mice and were reimbursed by Uhaul. Hi! my name is Justino. I went in to Somerville Uhaul office yesterday after reservation online. I made the reservation to move in on Sunday 9/27/20. When I got there, I saw a girl at the office, instead of helping she asked her coworker Edgar Lopez who just walked in from outside to take over and help me because she wanted to use the restroom, Edgar was in the middle of doing something outside but came over and started helping when she popped out of the so called bathroom she claimed she went. Edgar almost finished with the contract and was telling me the amount to pay to move in when I was explaining to him that I was supposed to have one month free according to my reservation and I have a proof of it. That was when the girl jumped in saying "no that's not true because I was here last time when you came in and my boss told you you need to rent a truck one way before getting one month free. I told her that's right but this is the proof that I'm qualified for one month free according to my reservation. she didn't want to hear it. Then I pulled my phone out and trying to provide the picture evidence I have, she said:"even if you have a picture to prove it we're not going to do it". However Mr Lopez Edgar took his time and listened to me and saw the evidence I showed him then advised me to come back the next day and see his manager because he's the only person who can approve the one month free rent. I got out of the office and decided to contact the manager because I'm used to that office and I know the former manager George and the current one manny. I sent a text message to Manny and told him the story of the girl been too harsh. Manny took his time to document everything and then recommended me to JUAN BAUTISTA and asked me to go back there and see him for the contract. I went back to the office and Juan took care of the issue and resolved it and assigned me the unit that I reserved which happened to be at the upper level. I told him it's too high for me to load heavy things up there and he reassured me that if anything becomes available at the lower lever I can switch to that lower level unit. I was so happy with the excellent customer service provided by Manny the manager, Juan B. and Edgar Lopez. All a customer needs sometimes is attention and be listened to and be advised when the service he or she is requesting cannot be provided. That's what Edgar Lopez did. And Manny as a team leader proved his leadership by asking a talented team member JUAN BAUTISTA to care of the issue which he resolved with an excellent level of service which brights my day.Justino A. | First Impressions
While the staff was helpful, the design of the storage units are horrendous. Why are there overhead storage units? This defeats the convenience in paying for storage units. Nowhere on the online booking tool was o warned there were overhead units at lower cost and floor units were $40 more! Arriving at the facility with my fully loaded for check in, My hand was forced to go with the slightly bigger, floor unit.
