When I went to return the truck a day early, the person behind the desk that I could not see very well, asked if I was returning a truck and I said yes, and they said to just leave the keys in the truck. Mr. Sim who helped me return the trailer was far from professional and extremely rude. He went out of his way to make me uncomfortable, spoke to me in a very rude and unprofessional manner, and then even skipped me in the line and took the person behind me first making me wait additional time to complete the return. When I told him I was next in line, he continued his unprofessional and rude vocabulary. I have rented equipment both under my personal name and my business as well as have towing/hitch equipment installed for my company vehicles in the past. Movers in Boston wonderful! My 50 in TV arrived damaged & even though I had insurance & pit in claim they denied it & now I'm out a 50 inch TV! The movers in TX were great too & im not going to file a claim against movers that didn't do anything that I saw. It was during transit damaged. When I reserved my truck it was at the Malden location, after arriving there and waiting in line for 25 minutes the guy working informed me my truck was now in Somerville...not a great time. Overall the experience was not great (2/5 stars) but Somerville location was good at least and the only bright side to the experience. Another thing to mention is after I had to drive from Malden to Somerville to get my truck I lost time on my actual rental and was still expected to have the truck back by the original time. If the pick up location moves then the start time of the rental should move up tooKevin B.

Staff did an outstanding job of processing me when I picked up the van and an equally efficient job of checking me back in the follow day during business hours. I do not have a "smart phone" with which to execute self check in after hours. I am disappointed that the Somerville Uhaul has a policy of charging a $20 fee when the truck is returned after hours and the self return app. is not used.patrick M.

It took over an hour and a half to get our rental after we completed the online sign in process. It seemed like there were not enough employees to run the front desk. It just took way too long to get the rental truck and put us behind schedule for the task we needed to complete.Khalid L.
What you can do to improve: not cancel my 15' truck as I'm going to pick it up from a different location and be forced to rent a 10' truck from this location on short notice. They charge me double for equipments. I got one Dolly but they charged me for two. I got 12 pads, but charged for 24. And also charge for 2 other types of Dolly that I didn't request at all. Also I had reservation for 20 foot truck but I ended up with a 17 foot one. Overall very bad. Especially the U-hal representative was awful, rude, and racist. I went to pick up the truck around 11:00 and after staying in line for 30 minutes because they were very slow in managing people, he told me you need to come back at 12:00, I went back at 12. The manager was not wearing a facemark inside the store. TWICE. I politely and apologetically asked if he would please put one on and he said that the plexiglass shield should be sufficient. I had two problems with my rental: 1. The associate said the tank in my truck was 7/16 full when in fact it was 1/8 full. 2. My final bill was based on mileage that I didn't drive, since the initial odometer reading they were using was lower than actual. As a result of the above, I was charged $170 extra for my rental. I was refunded eventually, but only after 2 calls to customer service and 1 follow-up trip back to the site to explain my issue. Perhaps it was a simple truck mix-up, but I would have hoped that my two calls to customer service would have prevented the extra charges from happening in the first place. I made an 8 am appointment to pick up a truck and the location was switched the day before due to truck availability. I was on a tight timeline to move and I was not able to pick up my truck until 10 am because they were behind schedule. While I was waiting I saw one of the trucks drive into a trailer, and then another one bump mirrors with a different truck while moving around the small parking lot. They were scrambling around to move trucks as the location opened to make sure there was room for customers to drive off the lot. I feel like this should be done before opening so that reservations can be fulfilled on time.Derek A.

Please make sure staff are wearing masks at all times in the rental center and in the vehicles. At least one of the workers removed their mask when there were no patrons indoors and when they were driving. This is not safe COVID19 protocol. The first 3 trucks suggested in the app we're not in the lot. When I did find a truck the keys were not in the lock box. I had to go inside and wait while one employee (despite others being present) assisted all the waiting customers, answered all incoming phone calls, and answer other employees questions. The truck I ended up with was so filthy I had to clean it myself (inside and out). It took over an hour to do a self pick-up, which is incredibly inefficient. Once I started driving the truck it was clear that the alignment was off. The truck should not have been on the road. Rather than extend my rental experience, I dealt with it because I had a deadline to get my things moved and be out of my apartment.Justin Z.

Hi! my name is Justino. I went in to Somerville Uhaul office yesterday after reservation online. I made the reservation to move in on Sunday 9/27/20. When I got there, I saw a girl at the office, instead of helping she asked her coworker Edgar Lopez who just walked in from outside to take over and help me because she wanted to use the restroom, Edgar was in the middle of doing something outside but came over and started helping when she popped out of the so called bathroom she claimed she went. Edgar almost finished with the contract and was telling me the amount to pay to move in when I was explaining to him that I was supposed to have one month free according to my reservation and I have a proof of it. That was when the girl jumped in saying "no that's not true because I was here last time when you came in and my boss told you you need to rent a truck one way before getting one month free. I told her that's right but this is the proof that I'm qualified for one month free according to my reservation. she didn't want to hear it. Then I pulled my phone out and trying to provide the picture evidence I have, she said:"even if you have a picture to prove it we're not going to do it". However Mr Lopez Edgar took his time and listened to me and saw the evidence I showed him then advised me to come back the next day and see his manager because he's the only person who can approve the one month free rent. I got out of the office and decided to contact the manager because I'm used to that office and I know the former manager George and the current one manny. I sent a text message to Manny and told him the story of the girl been too harsh. Manny took his time to document everything and then recommended me to JUAN BAUTISTA and asked me to go back there and see him for the contract. I went back to the office and Juan took care of the issue and resolved it and assigned me the unit that I reserved which happened to be at the upper level. I told him it's too high for me to load heavy things up there and he reassured me that if anything becomes available at the lower lever I can switch to that lower level unit. I was so happy with the excellent customer service provided by Manny the manager, Juan B. and Edgar Lopez. All a customer needs sometimes is attention and be listened to and be advised when the service he or she is requesting cannot be provided. That's what Edgar Lopez did. And Manny as a team leader proved his leadership by asking a talented team member JUAN BAUTISTA to care of the issue which he resolved with an excellent level of service which brights my day.Justino A. | First Impressions
While the staff was helpful, the design of the storage units are horrendous. Why are there overhead storage units? This defeats the convenience in paying for storage units. Nowhere on the online booking tool was o warned there were overhead units at lower cost and floor units were $40 more!
