We were under the impression we would be dropping our U-Haul truck at the same location we had rented it from. I had left both of my numbers with U-Haul, however they only called the house phone and not my cell number of which we weren't home to get that message until we got home of which was a different drop off location then what I was told when we picked up the U-Haul. That was a bit confusing and the facility was open but door locked and it took over 5 or 6 minutes to get the agent to unlock the door.Harriett N.

Uhaul corporate must audit this uhaul franchise in Romeoville. It's a disgrace to your business. I have 2 storage to this facility but I decided to transfer after a month of poor service. Their office always lock even in business hours. You need to call and wait for 10min before the manager opens the door. The guy who cleans the storage is so rude yelling at the customer. He also cover up the manager every time you wait for the door to open. The store also opens late. It's good thing that's there 4 more storage place around the area so we can easily escape to this poor managed storage I'm also putting up a review on yelp to save customer from this storage.Joneph P. | Overall Experience

This is a general complaint about my experience with U-Haul. I reserved a 10 X 10 truck at a location (United Self Storage 21005 Division Street, Crest Hill, Illinois 60403) July 27, 2021 for use on August 1, 2021. U-Haul switched me to a location in the city of Romeoville which was farther away. I called U-Haul customer service and explained I didn't want the truck in Romeoville; I wanted the one in Crest Hill. That was an exercise in futility. I went to Romeoville location three days prior to my move and they assured me.there would be no problem. Sunday morning, August 1, I go to pick up my truck and there was not one available for me. Needless to say I was furious. They had an open trailer available and I luckily had a hitch on my vehicle. So I was able to move my mother's belongings although it took about two hours longer because of the extra trips we had to make. What can U-Haul do to make this right? I got a 10 feet truck. When I got to ny location I realized that the truck was too small to fit all of my stuff so I came right back to get a bugger truck, a 20 feet truck. I only had the truck for 40min and I only did 3-4 miles roughly. I still added gas to the 10 feeter before I return it to get the bigger truck. When I got to the location I was told I still had to pay for it even though I didnt use it at all and I was going to pay for a bigger truck. When asked to speak to the manager, she was very no sympathetic. She acted liked she really didnt care and that I had to pay because â€œthats policyâ€. I was trying to see if there was another option and as I said before she was not even trying to help, it felt as if she just didnt want to do no work. When asked for the customer service number she gave a wrong number. I was waiting for 30 minutes to speak to a representative just to find out it was the wrong number. At the end I had to pay for two trucks even though ones was not even used. It feels that â€œthe policyâ€ its just to take as much money as possible from people.Lorea G.

I arrived at 9am to pick up my 9am scheduled uhaul. Upon arrival no one was present. It was listed that this location opens at 9am on Sunday. A staff member arrived around 9:20. Due to tardiness and the line of customers awaiting the opening of the store we were not fully checked in until almost 10am. When asked what time the store closed we were told 5pm. When we returned around 4:45 pm I was told our key would need to be dropped in the drop box as the staff member had already closed for the day. However when leaving another customer walked in and handed their keys directly to this staff member. I am highly dissatisfied with the service received at this store as I would have appreciated my rented uhaul be looked over and checked in while I was present considering I received my vehicle late due to tardiness and I made sure to return prior to the scheduled closing time.Joshua L.

When I returned the truck, I had the same amount of gas that was in there as I took a picture of the gauge before I left the lot. They still charged me for 6 gallons of gas on return and I have the proof that I put gas in it first.Christopher C.

Staff at this location is extremely helpful. I read plenty of reviews that indicated this would not be a positive experience. Those were INACCURATE! I have used this location several times this passed month with great service each time. The gentleman working the front was my go to for all questions and he made the experience worthwhile for me. My code never worked, there was hardly ever anyone there when I needed them to fix my code. There was multiple times I could just not access my unit. Also I was told when we first rented that there was rodent control in this facility and that was untrue. 90% percent of my things were destroyed by water and or rodents inside the unit. We reserved a 5x8 trailer months in advance to pick up in Alsip, IL (a few blocks from our house). When it came time to actually pick it up, we had to drive to Romeoville, IL (40 miles from our house). We arrived to pick it up and as we are finalizing the paperwork, the rep informs us that someone else at UHaul had just cancelled our reservation and gave the trailer to someone else! She was able to correct it, (she was great!) but the whole experience was pretty disappointing.Michael C.

Person didn't show up to open up until 9:20a.m. Cab of truck was dirty, there was actually water inside the door pocket. The dolly in the back didn't have a band seal on it & even though we didn't use the dolly we were charged for it anyways. I lost the key to my uhaul lock which was purchased at U-Haul at this site. The huge employee told me they would not be able to remove the lock for me and I would need to call a locksmith. I already rented a U-Haul truck and was committed to a 100 mile drive and had to wait 4 hours for a locksmith in 100 degree temps to get me into my storage facility because the man at the office refused to help me and said they no longer remove locks. Turned out to be a miserable 100 degree day. I would never rent from U-Haul again after this. Wasted over 1 hour trying to access & locate the actual storage unit. When asked for assistance the guy working the desk became upset with me when I asked him for help. The customer service is extremely poor at this location & it gets worse when you ask for help. They act like it's a huge burden for them to actually get off their chair to come & help. Instead they get angry with you & you get an attitude instead of help. I'm specifically referring to the young fellow who was working at the desk. It seemed like he was new cause the lady it seemed was training him when we arrived but she wasn't there at the time I asked for help. I don't appreciate getting yelled at for asking for help especially as I'm a paying customer & by the way I don't have a photographic memory. You know the process since you work there & I'm a new customer there & so this was totally unprofessional the way your staff member guy treated us. I'm being kind by rating you 2 stars because I really want to rate you 0 stars. The only good thing about this location was the number of trucks/vans available. But I was told to pull the van out myself and it was. Blocked in with no way to get out. So the employee had to come out and move the truck in front of me but that took awhile because he was busy checking in someone else. I had a tight 4 hour window to get the truck back but between the slow check in and being blocked in I didn't leave the lot until 45 minutes after my reservation started. I'll chalk it up to them. We've rented several trucks and two storage units from this location. Pretty much every time we came to our unit, we'd have to go into the office as our gate entry code would stop working. Even if we visited multiple times per weekend, it didn't seem to matter. The staff did their best to help but this was very frustrating. The last few truck rentals we had were also a challenge. We arrived for our reservation but the office was empty and no one was answering the phone. We waited 30 minutes before someone was finally able to assist us. We cleaned out our storage unit on 2/2, but I was still sent a bill with a late fee on 2/22. We had informed the office three separate times that our unit had been cleared, well before the next payment was due. I had to spend another half hour on the phone with customer service trying to resolve the situation. Overall, we appreciated the staff and their efforts but will probably not use this location again.Jennifer B. | Overall Experience

This place stole out of my storage and blamed me for not locking my storage door which was completely false Things was stolen out my storage. I couldn't get in or out of my storage because their system was always down so I couldn't use my code to get in and of the gate. No one was never there to help the customers. Romeoville location never answers their phones. They left me a vague voicemail about my unit (during a day with high winds) which made me believe my unit got damaged, my husband and i spent all our time calling them while at work, and on the drive to the unit. All of my boxes were wet/damp and falling apart when I moved out. We only had our stuff in there for 3 months. Anything fabric has a mildew smell and I had to remove mold from several pieces of furniture. I would hate to have lost everything if I had to keep it in there longer. Not sure this is normal or not for storage. But it did add extra hassle, work, time and money onto our move that I wasn't expecting.
