I brought truck back after fueling it to the approximate amount the gauge read when I checked it out. We put 18 miles on it. I put 2.996 Gals of fuel in it. When I turned it in they tried to charge me $18.00 for a fuel surcharge. The young man that checked it in said he could fix it on the computer. He printed out the receipt and it still had the $18.00 charge on it. They finally got it fixed. after about 20 minutes. I know it is hard to get employees right now and they are busy but if there was a Ryder store in town I would try them. Staff doesn't seem very friendly except for Jerrod.RAYMOND M.

We continued to reserve a 20' truck. All reservations did not meet my requirements. I had to rent a 26', which was way to big. But, it was the only truck available. Paid 500 more, for a truck that was too big. I had no choice. Tried to pled with the company, to try to reduce the rate. They would not budge. Probably not going to use U-Haul any further... Cotter pin on shank of drop hitch, bought and installed at RC U-Haul, either broke or came out on interstate. Clearly either an installation or materials deficiency. Almost lost the trailer as shank was out of one side and pinned diagonally by tongue pressure. Fortunately a couple of Good Samaritans helped and got the hitch reset and provided a real cotter pin.MICHAEL W.

We were told that location had a car tow dolly to rent, we went to pick it up the next morning and we're told they weren't available because it was only for one way and had to use a tow trailer. It was not what we needed, my husband hurt his back had to use a hand winch to load the car up the ramp because the car didn't start. It would have been no problem if we had the tow dolly as promised. When we returned the tow trailer guess what two were still sitting there. We will not rent be renting from Uhaul.CHARLES S.

The UHaul app is mostly useless. 1. I can pre-check in, only to have to check in completely at the counter. 2. I tried to complete a moblie booking, only to have to check in at the counter, and the moblie booking tried to reserve a one-way vehicle for an in-town order. 3. Tried to do a mobile return after hours, but the app would not accept any of the 15 pictures of the odometer. Equipment good. Location good. System/technology/app - poor (F).RICHARD C.
I reserved a pickup truck in June for 12 days in August. I work the sturgis bike rally and travel from Florida to sturgis with an rv pulling an equipment trailer. When I get to sturgis I set up the rv to live in and use the pickup truck to pull the trailer around to various gigs in sturgis. I have to have a pickup and nothing larger to navigate small alleys at the event. A box truck would be too big and has a molded in 2" hitch ball. My hitch is 2 5/16 and trailer would not hookup to box truck anyway. Expenses to travel there and back are in excess of 2800.00. That said, on the way to sturgis I received a phone call that the truck I rented... a GMC Sierra pickup.. was not available and that I would have to take a 15' box truck. I pleaded with customer service rep who was in North Dakota to help me because a box truck would not work. I had reservations for a pickup and it even had a picture of the pickup on the reservation that I printed out. I was told there were no available pickup anywhere near sturgis including north and South Dakota and Wyoming. I pleaded and told the uhaul rep that I was spending thousands to get there and the only way I could work the jobs I'd been contracted was with a pickup. Box truck nor my RV would be able to get into the small alleyways I needed to pull the trailer to. I was told that uhaul reserved the right to change the vehicle reserved. I saw no such disclaimer on the paperwork. After much stress and trying to figure out what to do, I stopped in rapid city at the appointed date and time. Someone was returning a pickup at that moment. In essence, I got lucky. I had even called rapid city directly during the trip and was told they had no availability on any pickup truck. I got lucky. Next year it's likely I will be looking to rent a pickup truck again. I need to know that if I rent a pickup and it is confirmed that the vehicle will not change for any reason. Any other vehicle is too large. How do I ensure this doesn't happen again?HOLLIS G.

Although I am pleased with the location, my overall rental experience was a low rating. My truck reservation was changed 3 times due to a high level of people needing uhauls. I had my reservation far enough in advance this shouldn't have happened and it ended up costing me more in fuel.Diane H.

The first 4x8 trailer I was given had a rear bulb out and the employee hooking up trailer implied I should go ahead and take it if not driving at night! I said, no - fix the bulb. The 2d trailer I was given was old and beat up, and side tie bar was broken at the front (discovered upon loading). Upon return at 6:40p (close at 7p), they said they were closed for cleaning. Others were returning trucks, and someone was trying to rent; frustration level high; no notice given re. early closing upon renting that afternoon). Upon my insistence, an employee helped me unhook trailer. Dirty looks by female who appeared to be manager every time we opened the door. Usually , I have had a great experience at this location, but this time it was very questionable and unprofessional. Bad when this is the main rental location!SaraBeth D.

I was supposed to be able to move my stuff from South Dakota to Montana. The radiator was overheating and no a/c. We loaded all our stuff into the U-Haul and then found out it was overheating at this point we didn't have time to repack everything in a different U-Haul and move it to Montana. So we had to try and find a storage unit in South Dakota. None were available. So then I had to inconvenience a family member by loading all my stuff in their garage. I spend $200 to move my stuff across town to my parents garage. I could have literally just used my dad's truck to do that and it wouldn't have cost me anywhere near that much in gas. Now I will have to re rent a truck to move my stuff to Montana. I'm currently in Montana and have to find time to move everything between starting my new job and kids starting school. This move has now become more inconvenient and more expensive.KELLI S.

I was booking online and had a question on the RV storage size Large 13' x 33' x 99'. I wanted to know if this area was large enough for my 33 ft bumper pull travel trailer. I called the location and no one ever answered the phone at the location. I used the chat feature on U-haul and your rep had a difficult time getting an answer. The "manager" told your rep that space was large enough. So we hauled our trailer from our hometown of Watford City, ND to Rapid City, SD only to be told that storage spot is not large enough. I was unaware that U-Haul would not prorate my month of storage. I've been quarantined twice and was able to get my last six boxes out five days into the new month, leaving 25 days unused. I was doing the responsible thing and staying in for the safety of your staff and other customers and now I have to pay for 25 days of unused time. This is absolutely the worst costumer service I have ever seen. I am now paying for something I don't have access to as I've given my key back and you will re-rent and get more money for, essentially double dipping. I have moved with you twice this year alone not to mention at least 10 moves in the last 20 years, it is so frustrating to see that my $72 is worth more to you than a long time loyal customer, not to mention doing the right thing during a global pandemic. I needed storage that would not freeze but didn't necessarily need temp controlled. This was wonderful and so much cleaner than most outside storage units that get dusty and dirty. The physical location and staff were convenient and great. Staff were friendly, polite, and helpful. Unfortunately, the outdoor storage option failed to fit the website's description and our needs. Access was limited to store hours only. U-Haul employees locked and unlocked the gate each morning and night. Tenants did not has afterhours access or the extended our similar to indoor storage.. Our 33 feet of space was limited by storage crates placed between the building and the rented lot space. The outdoor storage setup is definitely more ideal for a passenger vehicle over a RV or trailer. The owner does offer a military discount of 10%, which is nice. Overall, above average experience.
