The staff was rude and could not explain why after making my reservation in Staten Island with an online U-Haul representative, I was told I need to go to Brooklyn. I paid tolls going into Brooklyn and coming back to Staten Island where I live. Again paying another toll. No explanation, no compensation and the truck was filthy.DEBBIE G.

The Uhaul in Parkslope, NY is poorly managed. There were plenty of employees in side the store. I had a reservation and had to wait in an all purpose line waiting for people to rent vehicles etc... After about 40 min in line, it was my turn. The woman at the counter took my payment, unhooked a key from the wall and I was on my way. It took about two min. I should have been able to go right to a reservation counter, but this was being used as an all purpose work station. The guys outside actually getting the vehicle and the ubox were efficient and properly managed. It was smooth as soon as I left the mess of the inside. I would not recommend this location to anyone.victor B.

I own a construction Company and on many occasions have to rent from this particular UHaul location. I Do NOT typically leave reviews but had to for this one. They are ALWAYS extremely helpful, polite, knowledgable and professional. On many occasions I personally witnessed customers flipping out on the customer service people, and they stay calm and professional. I wish I could intervene BUT these days people are just crazy. Sherain and Triston, BOTH should be commended for doing their jobs so well. Im sure we only hear about the negative experiences, most likely, due to cheap customers looking to get over. PUT gas in it when you return it, ITS IN THE Contract and theres a gas station 9 blocks away.. I reserved my van at 9:45 for a 10am pick up got there at 10am and was driving the van off the lot at 10:05 Clean full tank of gas and very easy to drive. I rented it for 2 days being my truck was at dealers, who called me 2 hours after I rented the Uhaul to tell me its done. I called Triston who said bring it back early.. Only got charged for the time i used it and nothing more. And for the a hole customer infront of me bitching about the gas charge he recd, I put $10 in it when i returned it, the needle didn't move but i drove it 13 miles and figured a deals a deal.. Im so sorry that these young ladies have to deal with animals sometimes. So the main reason for my review is to try and make sure they get commended, they are always on point. Plain and simple. The staff at Park Slope has a pleasant Demeanor and are generally willing to help, but this location has far too much loitering and soliciting taking place for comfort. Today, I felt intimidated by one of â€œmoving helpersâ€ who asked for my code to use the bathroom, and kept staring at me in a menacing fashion after I declined to let him use my code to use the bathroom. I prefer the bathroom to be used only by paying customers of uhaul so that it ensures a cleaner experience for the customer. Please handle the loitering and soliciting that takes place at both Park Slope, Bklyn & Flushing, Qnz. This is unsafe and will lead no where good. The staff is tolerant but loitering â€œmoving helpersâ€ make me feel uneasy about my vehicle and my possessions when I am at your facility.Kareem C.

I have rented from this location many times and I usually receive great customer service. The person who assisted me at the counter was very pleasant and helpful. The van itself needed maintenance . my card did not work, so I had to stand on line at office with other customers doing many other types of transactions (renting trucks..), when attended the experience was very good, but since it was past 8 as a I was moving out, it was complicated getting back into facility, sliding doors stop working, me and many patrons trying everything to get in. My card stop working again so could not get back my 3rd unit to finish emptying it (and office was closed), I stopped a customer care person on her way to leave work so she can swipe me in so i can get back to my unit and my daughters who was upstairs helping. There was a huge, slow moving line to get anything at all. I first had planned to rent a van and a storage unit but was talked out of renting my storage unit until the next day because I had arrived so close to office closing hours (I had reserved for 6:30PM). Instead I had to keep my rental truck parked on the street overnight, full of my stuff, and only realized the next day that it was totally unnecessary. They could have assigned me my storage space and I could have used it later that evening, since there was access until 10PM. I felt like the person behind the counter didn't want to deal with it so close to quitting time. I also never got the dolly I had rented, even though I was still charged for it. The system in the building itself was confusing and I had to run back and forth several times in order to get my key card to work. I got differing information about the move out process. Online it's says it can be done completely online and to leave your card in the unit. I asked an employee to make sure and she told me I needed to return the card to the front desk. When I went to the front desk to return the card the associate told me the card was just trash now and I was free to go. This is not at all the fault of the staff, but my experience moving in was so disorganized! I place the blame 100% on ineffective systems, not at all on the staff, who, as I said above, were friendly and helpful. To begin, although I had made a reservation in advance online, local staff did not have access to that information. Fortunately there were units available in the size I needed, but why have me select my unit size in advance if that information is not going to be shared with staff? Then, there were several issues with the unit itself. First, I was sent to a unit that was actually already occupied--again, I blame record-keeping rather than staff, who are trying to do their best with a system that's not giving them the information they need. Then, though staff (reasonably) believed there would be a lock inside my unit, this was not the case. Every time there was an issue, I had to go back down from the fourth floor to the office and stand in line. It was a needless waste of my time, and of staff's time continuing to help me with these issues on a busy first Monday of the month. This is why I rate my experience "average", although, again, everybody was very helpful. What would have been more helpful would have been if 1) staff had had access to my prior reservation 2) staff had had access to an accurate record of which units were available 3) available units were actually fully equipped with lock, OR, it were known that the unit did not contain a lock so I could have just grabbed one before heading up.CJ H. | First Impressions

For both the truck and storage unit rental, I ended up having to wait in line for ~15-20 minutes to 1) get the truck keys (and provide information I'd already submitted online) and 2) figure out how to check in to the building to access the storage unit. Several employees gave conflicting information about how to check in until I eventually stood in line to talk to someone at the counter. Online check in sounded like it'd save me time and avoid the line but that wasn't the case. There also wasn't a padlock left in the unit as indicated online for using Rent Now. Uhaul storage should allow customers to access their belongings 24/7. Charging a fee for unfolded blankets is condescending & patronizing. The complete lack of trash cans is a pain in the neck. Also, the very long lines for service at the cashier is a bummer. The max security system was French failed and I had to have my card remade. Even then it failed half the time. So all in all it failed more than it worked (card reader in elevator did not function properly). Also, the keys to my lock were stolen and uhaul has no contingency plan in place when this happens. The line was extremely slow moving. One of the girls behind the counter was extremely rude and off-putting -- making me feel as though she was doing me a huge favor by helping me. The unit we reserved online was not available on our scheduled move-in day. The staff member/cashier was rude when we asked what happened. Then she fought with another staff member about showing us available units. The other staff member was nice and helpful but didn't have the information we'd given the first staff member, resulting in wasted time showing us the wrong size units. She eventually found one that could work, but didn't take the U-Haul lock off, so we had to go back down to the desk for help. I have a problem with me closing out my account on Sunday, May 9th. My payment is due the 2nd of each month and I paid on April 28th which was in advance and when I inquired about the procedure for technically only having the storage for 7 days and asked if my account could be prorated I was informed that if you pay your fee 1 day before or 1 day after the fee is not prorated and that was not explained to me the day I closed my account. I also said if you rent out that same storage unit that same day you will charge the new customer for the entire month and I consider that stealing and unfair practices. Thank you for taking the time to read this over. I appreciate that you're working on making a better business. The whole experience working with the office staff was horrible. To purchase anything from a roll of tape or securing the storage unit took min. of 30 mins. I waited in lines for over an hour, with slow moving staff that didn't seem to care. I was given the wrong storage unit number and asked to wait back in line. After activating my entrance card it didn't work they told me to wait back in line. The second time it didn't work again and I was told they don't know what to do. So my wife and I had to share a single entrance card because your staff refused to replace it without me paying $5. The entire front office staff could not care less about the customer experience or helping in a timely manner. They gave everyone attitude knowing there was nothing we could do about it. The staff in the actual facility and working on the trucks was great and very helpful. Please feel free to contact me if you'd like to chat about what I have written. Honestly, this could have been a great experience. I loved that it was possible to move in out-of-hours, but I was shocked to discover that my unit was "upstairs". Although there was an elevator to the appropriate floor, there was no indication that I would then have to lift all my furniture up a flight of stairs to my unit. I would not have made this booking had I known, and it was not made clear at all during the booking process. I've never had a worst time at a U-Haul location and I used to work in film production and was there all the time. The staff were completely incompetent and extremely unkind. All of their devices computers vestibules scanners for cards to check in to storage we're not working adequately. Other customers and I would be wandering around trying to figure out how to do this because the staff would be so unhelpful. The process of renting the truck and using the moving helpers was really difficult. The movers were poorly booked by U-haul and on the loading in to storage side were booked for the wrong date. The Truck was delivered to me with an empty tank and the brakes on the truck were problematic. The staff at the counter were really nasty and I really do not want to ever go back to your office every again now that I have my belongings in storage. The physical plant was clean and well maintained. The staff is universally professional. But there are several issues: 1. The facility allows non-employees to roam around offering to "help" customers more in and out; most are well-mannered but some guys are aggressive and made the female customers uncomfortable and threatened. Only employees and customers should be allowed on the premises. 2. The facility is terribly understaffed. During busy periods, there was literally a line out the door because the same people process truck rentals as manage the purchase of moving supplies. On several occasions, I walked out rather than stand in line for 45 minutes during a pandemic when more than a few customers and employees were not wearing masks or had them dangling around their necks. 3. The staff fails to rigorously enforce a mask policy in the store. 4. There are frequently not enough carts available during busy periods. 5. Unfortunately, kind of a frustrating experience. had a few helpful staff members but I showed up with a mobile reservation and it was very unclear where I was supposed to go to get the keys, and then I went to the key pickup desk and the person there told me, 'if you don't have a key number, go wait in the line…', and I still don't really know what that means. I said I had an online reservation but she still said, go to the back of the line, which does seem to move quite slowly. Took about an hour of the rental time, and then when I got back, had a bunch of problems getting into the storage unit. Didn't get an explainer on the swipe-in system which is somewhat complicated, and came back and they did explain but I was in the system under the wrong name so I just couldn't get up the elevator at all and had to come back. So I had a ton of wait time that tacked onto my day significantly. I did have some staff who helped me out, but I was surprised that the process involved a lot of inefficiency and just wanted to pass along so you knew.
