I had an altercation with a black woman customer while waiting for the entrance door to open in the morning. I got there at 6:45 am to be first on line but there was a guy there before me so I was secondth. When the doors opened at 7:00 am the gentlemen in front of me went to proceed inside and this black woman customer pushed her way in front of us and ran to the counter. At the counter I said to her that there was a line of people and she started screaming in that angry black woman tone that she is a woman and was there at 6am but sitting in her car because she was not going to stand outside with all the low lifes walking around in the parking lot. Please note most of the low lifes wandering around the parking lot are people of color ranging from black to mexican backgrounds. If you cant trust your own race who can you trust. I feel you should put a sign outside the entrance stating if you are not on line behind this sign you are not in line no waiting in your car counts. Just to set the record straight I am not prejudice against people of color I am prejudice against stupidity and arrogance. I did use two of the black men waiting on your facility to do some moving for me and paid them well plus my girlfriend is a black woman so please do not pull the race card because if it was a white woman she would have gotten thrown off the line by me. I am seeing the tension grow between the black and white races rapidly and try to avoid conflict so I expect you as a major corporation to correct this problem with a sign just like you do with your operations procedures. You should contact the woman that caused this occurrence and straighten her out because she logged into your system right before me. I am a peaceful loving person and have served in the armed forces for this country. I would protect everyone no mattet of race, color, creed, religion, culture, etnic background and sexual orientation or preference. I am AMERICAN my eyes see no color but turn away from arrogance. About 1 out of every 3 times I rent a truck (I rent a lot) I am overcharged. Usually it's because the crew doesn't check the truck in on time (after I have returned before its due) then charges me for a second day as if I was late. This time for some reason they checked it in on time and overcharged me anyway. I am getting sick of it.SEANEMERIC K.

Arrived on site for 24/7 pick up. Service connection was terrible. App made sense and then had errors. Asked staff for help, very rude and annoyed. Explained app states my vehicle is active but my truck has no key. I was assisted by return services who placed his hand up when I spoke to tell me be quiet. I was then guided to the front door to the store front at 7:05pm with staff.As were walking in front desk service says were closed at the door. i was still directed with staff from return service to desk to review my account and another front desk clerk said why would they bring her in here, tell her were closed and good night and sucked her teeth. There was no one to help me with the trailer installation, thankfully I have done it before so I managed alone. After returning it within the same day I got multiple emails and phone calls saying that it hadn't been returned even though it was back in the exact spot in the lot where I received itâ€¦Alexander H.

The staff was overworked. Not enough experienced staff. The person waiting on me was constantly being interrupted by other staff to answer questions. They were distracted and inattentive to my questions bordering on rude. The system of scanning IDs was not working and seemed unnecessary. I have rented from UHaul MANY times and in the past, since I was in the system, I got in and out smoothly and quickly. This experience was a drag and I felt like my being a good customer was of no interest or value. Upon returning the van the outside staff completely ignored me and were not helpful.Christine W.
Apparently most of the return effort has been offloaded to the customer. The regional office needs to be more organized and equipped. When you book something you expect the equipment to be there - not 9/10 hours later than requested. We also had to change locations multiple times to get a trailer. It put our move back by a full day.GABOR T.

When I purchased the Uhaul, the reason i bought it was the dropoff in Williamsburg. Then at payment I was told I had to go to Park Slopeâ€"very bad experience and wasted two hours of my day. I would have gone with someone else if I had known ahead of time about the potential for the last second drop off change. The scheduling person online said that the drop off locations are very flexible and I could go anywhere.JACK B.

I overestimated the mileage as 20 miles in total, thinking that I would be refunded for the exact amount of miles driven (probably 10) since the price given on the online check-in was clearly marked "Estimated cost of rental." I was surprised to see on the receipt that the actual mileage had not been adjusted for in the final billing. (I only realized this once I go home and frankly have not contacted U-Haul because of how long it could take to get this rectified.)LIAM W.
My truck had to be swapped at pick up due to a faulty connection with the trailer. That cost some time. I left my jacket in the first truck and when trying to get information about it the next day (after coming back to drop off) nobody knew how to figure out how to check for my jacket. The manager was unavailable. The trailer attendant spoke to me rudely and condescendingly when I went to drop the keys off. When asked which he preferred - leaving them in the truck or tent, he repeated his original line stating the options, slower and with more condescension. When I told him I didn't appreciate his attitude, he launched into a screaming fit. The whole ordeal was total chaos and erratic. Will never use this location and probably never U-Haul again.Blue T.

The employees were great and helpful, you just need more of them. The line was massive and the online checkin process was lacking information. You should be much more transparent when doing online checkin on what you need at the initial booking and when â€œwaiting for authorizationâ€ you should be transparent about how long this may take (in my case I was sitting on the street for 30 minutes with no explanation) I tried to call customer service but was on hold for 20 minutes before I gave up and your online chat, I just never got a response. At the end of the day, it would have been faster to checkin in person at the desk. If your app doesn't work, give more people jobs at the sites instead.Daniel B.

They didn't have a vehicle ready for my reservation, neither time nor location. I ended up spending over sixty dollars to get to another u-haul location. I was provided a vehicle two hours late. When I finally got the vehicle and was loading it while moving to my new apartment, the u-haul representatives called my girlfriend and I multiple times being unclear in their communication. After many attempts to reach an understanding with them, they realized they gave me the wrong vehicle. Overall I can't really complain. But for the sake of suggestions for how the process could be improved, I have three things to note. (1) In terms of unit sizes, my unit was a bit too small for what I needed, but there was no way for me to know that when deciding what size unit to get. I got a 5'x5'x8' unit, and it was labeled as "studio, one or two rooms." The stuff I was storing could fit in a small guest sized bedroom, or in a little corner of a studio apartment, so I thought I would be fine with the 5'x5'x8' unit. It was just a bit too small. Some more accurate information on the front end would be helpful to allow people to know what size unit they need without having to undertake in a trial-and-error process. (2) When I made the storage reservation, the website info told me I'd need to supply my own lock, but it did not specify that a particular type of lock was needed. So I brought my own padlock, but when I checked in, I was told I specifically needed a disc lock, so I had to buy one there and incur yet another unexpected charge (a common theme in the world of moving). I understand that the disc locks are stronger than standard padlocks, but I should still be able to choose what lock I use as long as it fits on the unit door, and just deal with the additional risk that comes with using a slightly less durable lock. (3) The alarm. When I started moving stuff into my unit (after I had officially swiped my security card to check in and disarm the unit), an alarm started going off and I didn't know why. I eventually discerned that the alarm probably sounds if something is blocking the doorway of the unit for a certain amount of time. This was never explained or cautioned ahead of time, which is never a cool thing to spring on an unsuspecting customer. It's also just not a sensible security feature to install. When I'm trying to squeeze so much stuff into such a small unit (see point #1 above), I can't stand inside of the unit and also load everything into it while I'm standing there, so naturally I need to stand in the doorway while playing storage unit Tetris for an hour and a half (actual time it took me to arrange my stuff in a way so that everything would fit). That alarm feature for merely standing in the doorway, or having an object in the doorway while I'm actively trying to load the unit, should either be removed altogether, disarmed while people are actively filling the unit, or at the very least, there should be a warning about that feature in the paperwork ahead of time and/or there should be signs notifying people that a super obnoxious alarm will sound if they dare to try loading their own storage unit while having the audacity to stand with just one foot directly below the open unit door.Evan G. | Overall Experience

my card did not work, so I had to stand on line at office with other customers doing many other types of transactions (renting trucks..), when attended the experience was very good, but since it was past 8 as a I was moving out, it was complicated getting back into facility, sliding doors stop working, me and many patrons trying everything to get in. My card stop working again so could not get back my 3rd unit to finish emptying it (and office was closed), I stopped a customer care person on her way to leave work so she can swipe me in so i can get back to my unit and my daughters who was upstairs helping. There was a huge, slow moving line to get anything at all. I first had planned to rent a van and a storage unit but was talked out of renting my storage unit until the next day because I had arrived so close to office closing hours (I had reserved for 6:30PM). Instead I had to keep my rental truck parked on the street overnight, full of my stuff, and only realized the next day that it was totally unnecessary. They could have assigned me my storage space and I could have used it later that evening, since there was access until 10PM. I felt like the person behind the counter didn't want to deal with it so close to quitting time. I also never got the dolly I had rented, even though I was still charged for it. The system in the building itself was confusing and I had to run back and forth several times in order to get my key card to work. I got differing information about the move out process. Online it's says it can be done completely online and to leave your card in the unit. I asked an employee to make sure and she told me I needed to return the card to the front desk. When I went to the front desk to return the card the associate told me the card was just trash now and I was free to go. This is not at all the fault of the staff, but my experience moving in was so disorganized! I place the blame 100% on ineffective systems, not at all on the staff, who, as I said above, were friendly and helpful. To begin, although I had made a reservation in advance online, local staff did not have access to that information. Fortunately there were units available in the size I needed, but why have me select my unit size in advance if that information is not going to be shared with staff? Then, there were several issues with the unit itself. First, I was sent to a unit that was actually already occupied--again, I blame record-keeping rather than staff, who are trying to do their best with a system that's not giving them the information they need. Then, though staff (reasonably) believed there would be a lock inside my unit, this was not the case. Every time there was an issue, I had to go back down from the fourth floor to the office and stand in line. It was a needless waste of my time, and of staff's time continuing to help me with these issues on a busy first Monday of the month. This is why I rate my experience "average", although, again, everybody was very helpful. What would have been more helpful would have been if 1) staff had had access to my prior reservation 2) staff had had access to an accurate record of which units were available 3) available units were actually fully equipped with lock, OR, it were known that the unit did not contain a lock so I could have just grabbed one before heading up.CJ H. | First Impressions

For both the truck and storage unit rental, I ended up having to wait in line for ~15-20 minutes to 1) get the truck keys (and provide information I'd already submitted online) and 2) figure out how to check in to the building to access the storage unit. Several employees gave conflicting information about how to check in until I eventually stood in line to talk to someone at the counter. Online check in sounded like it'd save me time and avoid the line but that wasn't the case. There also wasn't a padlock left in the unit as indicated online for using Rent Now. Sophia absolutely made my experience at the Uhaul Parkslope location a positive one. She was approachable, knew all the answers, and put me in touch with someone who could help me, with selecting a new storage unit when the one I reserved was too small and with someone to find a place to park the truck to load/unload. The complete lack of trash cans is a pain in the neck. Also, the very long lines for service at the cashier is a bummer. The max security system was French failed and I had to have my card remade. Even then it failed half the time. So all in all it failed more than it worked (card reader in elevator did not function properly). Also, the keys to my lock were stolen and uhaul has no contingency plan in place when this happens. The line was extremely slow moving. One of the girls behind the counter was extremely rude and off-putting -- making me feel as though she was doing me a huge favor by helping me. Then she fought with another staff member about showing us available units. I have a problem with me closing out my account on Sunday, May 9th. My payment is due the 2nd of each month and I paid on April 28th which was in advance and when I inquired about the procedure for technically only having the storage for 7 days and asked if my account could be prorated I was informed that if you pay your fee 1 day before or 1 day after the fee is not prorated and that was not explained to me the day I closed my account. I also said if you rent out that same storage unit that same day you will charge the new customer for the entire month and I consider that stealing and unfair practices. Honestly, this could have been a great experience. I loved that it was possible to move in out-of-hours, but I was shocked to discover that my unit was "upstairs". Although there was an elevator to the appropriate floor, there was no indication that I would then have to lift all my furniture up a flight of stairs to my unit. I would not have made this booking had I known, and it was not made clear at all during the booking process. The process of renting the truck and using the moving helpers was really difficult. The movers were poorly booked by U-haul and on the loading in to storage side were booked for the wrong date. The Truck was delivered to me with an empty tank and the brakes on the truck were problematic. Liked that there were cubes replicating the actual sizes of the spaces making it simple to choose and make a final decision.
