The reason I checked average despite the other good ratings is this…uhaul specifically uses the word "Reservation" when you pick the size of the unit you want online. You feel happy knowing you are all set. Then, when you get to the facility, you, and everyone behind you come to find out that word doesn't carry it's expected meaning. . The size you really have to pay for is what is available at the time. We had "reserved" a unit that was under $100/mo but had to pay for a unit that was $181/mo. That is super misleading. When you make a reservation for a hotel room ahead of time, you pay the cost you "reserve" at etc. when you check out. Everyone expects that the rate you reserve at is what you expect to pay. So…I understand this type of storage unit operation can not know ahead of time what units will be vacant, however I really encourage you to make it more clear on your website and for sure, not use the word "reservation" so loosely. This location is very close to our home in Lawrenceville. That's a plus. The only downside is that UHaul here is hemmed in, so has scant parking for their own vehicles, and customers have to leave their cars out on a not-so-great street.Paul J.

I also want to note that Bradley at the U-Haul Moving & Storage of Pittsburgh North Shore location was incredibly helpful. We had to make last minute storage arrangements for my son's furnishings due to an apartment issue with the landlord. Bradley was very helpful in providing us a storage locker and all of the additional support to move our items to storage. He also called our drop off location for the truck to provide them updates on our situation.Mike G.

The staff and facilities were fine. We rented a van, and although we had a reservation for a storage locker, the size that we wanted was not available. Van rental. Although U-Haul tries to automate everything, it's still up to the individual to verify everything. That means looking and confirming the dents on the van. The funniest one was if we lock the keys in the car, it is a $100 charge, but if we do it intentionally, it is $150. Why would anyone do such a thing and want to pay the extra $50. It was not us. Storage facilities - unfortunately the reserved room size was not available, and only small 4x4x4 units were, however what that meant was lifting all our boxes up a latter to get them into the units. Yes, the small units are above the larger units and only a metal latter is available. Not very convenient, and a bit dangerous when moving heavier boxes. One final note, if we loose our lock keys, we have to call a locksmith at this location versus just having a bolt cutter available. The nickel and diming approach was not very palatable. This is nothing against this particular location that's why they still have a 5-star review. The blankets and the dolly that U-Haul zip ties into the back of their trucks in hopes that you'll be desperate enough to use them and thus be charged for them are super annoying. If I wanted to rent the dolly and the blankets I would've done so in the store. Having them taking up space in the truck and in the way when trying to load and unload the truck is ridiculous. The manager here allowed us to drive away with a trailer that had no blinker, without informing us. When we called later to fix it, she said there was nothing she could do about it and to call roadside assistance. When they showed up several hours later, they said it was a faulty trailer and that we needed a new one. We called around to Uhaul all day to find another, but by the end of the day we still didn't have one. We wanted to load the trailer that day so that we could leave first thing I the next morning, but the next morning we didn't even have a trailer. When we went back they said they still couldn't fix it, so we drove over 30 hours without a working blinker. The level of negligence we experienced from Uhaul so high it felt like we were being targeted. This woman needs to be retrained in her job and in customer service. This was only the biggest of all the problems we experienced. We were lied to and neglected at every opportunity. I will NEVER use Uhaul again.VIET HOANG V.
This was my first time ever renting a UHaul and after my disheartening customer service experience with the general manager Sandy Marcus, it will be my last ever renting from this location. I ran into trouble returning my UHaul as there was no reservation in the system when I went to drop it off after hours, so I had no direction on what to do to return the UHaul. I decided to put the UHaul back exactly where I picked it up and lock the keys in the car, assuming they had a spare to get it out in the morning (unaware that this clearly is not the case). I was scolded by the general manager the next morning and apologized profusely. Rather than admitting to any fault on UHaul's part, was charged DOUBLE the price of my entire experience and have been given no mercy even when calling back the following week to explain the situation. Picked up up a truck at 550pm and the actual gas in the truck wasn't the same as indicated on the paperwork. By the time I tried to go back inside, the location was closed so I figured I'd take care of it on dropoff. When I tried to drop the truck off at 545 the next day, no one was opening the door at the location even though it is open until 6pm. I managed to get inside when someone else walked out, and there was someone working the desk who refused to seve me. I pointed out that U-Haul was open until 6 and he said he didn't care. After talking to their customer service the next day, they said there is nothing they can do about the wrong gas amounts even though they can see I drove 16 miles and it shows that I used 8 gallons of gas. The attendant was not attentive. He ignored me upon arrival and seemed upset I was there. He tried to make me take the vehicle to another location even though I reserved the drop off at his location. I reserved a 15' truck, but was told they didn't have any so they gave me a 20' truck (even though there wer at least 4 of the 15' trucks sitting in the parking lot). I was also told the 6 furniture pads I requested would be in the truck, but they were not. In addition, I was told I would not be getting either of the 2 dollies I'd requested, but there WAS one in the back of the truck. Clearly, this location was a mess. They had no idea what they had available. We also had a friend with us who had reserved a van for the same day, but they were told when they go there that the van was not going to be available until 2 p.m. (they had requested a 9a.m. pick up). I made a reservation for a pickup truck with a reservation guarantee. When I got to the location, I was told I was not able to use the only truck in the lot because it was reserved by someone else. We had a terrible experience trying to coordinate getting in to our storage unit driving from out of town. We called ahead to let the office know we would get in at 545 pm, before the 6 pm closing time. They told us they would not be able to get us access to our storage unit that was pre-arranged as part of the uhaul truck rental at that time. Trying to accommodate this detail, we then had a friend in the area come earlier in the day to try and pick up our access key but he was refused despite having a copy of my drivers license and me willing to FaceTime with the office staff. In this day in age, the rigidity is confounding and the fact that a business somehow is not able to service a customer who had arranged things beforehand during the listed store hours is absolutely flabbergasting. The solution: my friend had to open another completely separate storage unit so we could drop our stuff off that day as previously planned.Tyler B.

The truck I rented was an older vehicle. The sun visor fell off when I got in. There were so many dents, scratches and dings in the exterior and interior of the truck. It was very difficult to return the vehicle. The online system wasn't working and kept logging me out instantly when I tried to log in. we waited on hold for the support team for over 20 minutes and even then they weren't able to guarantee that we wouldn't be charged a convenience fee if we submitted the photos through them. I got 9X10 storage unit from U-Haul at Oakland, Pittsburgh,PA. The U-Haul facility was great. Easy to access, flat trolley and mattress trolley were available and free to use. I like the trolley with three wheels made very easy to move between the deck edge and the uhaul truck. Uhaul made moving and storage fun and comfortable. UHaul Self-Storage saved us when we moved out of our rented townhouse and into a smaller apartment. We didn't realize we needed a storage unit until we couldn't fit any more boxes in our new apartment in the middle of our move. With only a few hours left before we needed to turn the keys over to our landlord, we were able to secure the unit, get the keys, and move our stuff in! It was great. The only negative comment I have was that the advertising was misleading. I thought we got a free first month with our UHaul rental, but that was only for those going one-way... I think? 7000.00 dollars worth of furniture flooded with mice and mice poo. No concept of insurance for this type of damage was ever explained or posted. I had no idea I needed to be covered for this type of problem in a indoor facility. The manager (Sherri) was always rude. Early COVID there was no mask mandate at facility one Sherri, the manager and staff quoted they didn't need mask because "she a had Jesus on her side, Sherri says she worked every day and had no symptoms as reason for no mask. Only to end business relationship with all my furniture covered in mice poo, and dead mice. Mice still moving in my bags. After a year or so being there. About the only thing I don't like about the facility is that it is built into a hillside. I guess that's going to happen in Pittsburgh making driving in and out a little more challenging. The floor is horrible in some places making it almost impossible to transverse without object falling off carts. I broke several things and had several spills. The staff were outstanding. There was a young man (Calvin?)there when I first applied for rental of the locker. He was very helpful, courteous, and professional, a real asset to the store. Then Sherri Robbins came and she provided the same quality of service. She was always helpful and accommodating, efficient, courteous, and professional. The site has always been very clean, well-lit, and overall, well maintained inside and out -- from the restrooms to the outside surroundings, including the dumpster area. This is our third time using this location and we hare very happy with the process except this year the new security codes were started and I did not know the code needed to be used during regular business hours. We initially entered after hours and had not problems with the code process but the next day during business hours we entered the building without entering the code and alarms went off when we opened our unit.
