Initially, I would have rated U-haul five stars. But, yesterday, we had to move our belongings from the storage unit due to water damage resulting from a fire in a different unit. As we were removing items from the unit to check for damage, we noticed signs of bed bugs. We have NEVER had bed bugs, so I know they had to come from a different unit. Truck was clean (no trash) but had very bad odor. The poor rating was more related to excessive charges that I had to dispute and take longer than normal at check in to resolve. The fuel was mismarked on the form which I did not initial catch. The form said truck had 7/8 when it was really under 3/4 full. Fortunately I did take a picture of the mileage and fuel prior to leaving as they tried to tell me I owed nearly $14 additional for fuel when I returned it with 3/4 of a tank. The non top of that they tried to charge an extra $100 that I noticed on the bill and questioned. The person checking me when was very nice and also questioned what it was after I brought it up. He then later explained that it was trying to charge me for the dolly which I had returned and he thought it was a system error causing it not to compute it correctly. After getting that finally resolved there was another small charge for a few dollars that also popped up on the bill. Long story short is it felt like all of these extra charges "accidently" were embedded in the bill and it took over half an hour to get things resolved (except for the fuel level as I had left my phone in the other car and did not have the picture). I am sure that this may of happened to others and they may of not even realized the additional errant items inflating the bill. I will not being renting from them again as I do not trust that I will get charged what I am told the cost will be.RANDALL M.

First they could find the trailer assigned to me even though there were at least 4-5 available and kept having me drive around the lot. Then when they reassigned me a new trailer the left side tire had bald spots almost to the cords and they tired to tell me it would be ok and if I had issues I could call road side assistance. After complaining they had me drive the trailer to the garage area so they could change the tire. Then they didn't have a tire the same size so they were going to put a larger sized tire on that side, and I told them I am not taking the trailer. Then they moved me to another trailer and the one side safety chain had links that looked like they were dragged and no longer in a solid ring, so they decided to replace the safety chain. Went inside and the lady inside gave me an attitude about all the issues. So an hour later I pulled away. For the size of this location it is run like a circus and tried to have me take two trailers that were not road worthy and could have caused serious accident if the anything would have happened do to a tire blowout or if the safety chains were needed.John E.

The process for mobile pick up was diluted and painful. Having to find the truck, just to walk back to the desk was a waste of time and the approval process cost critical time in the move. I would have been better off to go to the front desk. Additionally, the blanket bag in the truck was empty and there was no dolly that I had paid for. For mobile check in, it would be beneficial if there as a pre-check-in process for contact validation and remove the requirement for finding the truck before getting the keys.Brian H.
It was too old Van. Also the biggest issue was that when I got the Van, the gas meter was showing less than they mentioned. I also have photo. After using, I filled the gas and somehow it was still showing just a little less than when I got. When i got charged, i got for 8 Gallons and about $30 more. I also told the person who was taking the van delivery about the issue and gave the Gas receipt that I got it filled. Effectively I got over charge or about $30 even after I filled the gas and return the van filled with gas as much as I used. If at all they charge, I shouldn't have got charge of gas for more than 1 Gallon. I have all Photos and can be given. I also submitted details online and it was showing that Someone will call in 24 hours and its already completed but no one contacted. I am feeling that I got cheated. UHaul service is getting worst and now I will never ever use UHAUL. I will also ask all my friends and my followers in many groups that stay away from UHAUL.Priyank G.

I was asked about secondary verification for 24/7 rental only after I clicked on the email link after reaching the place. The verification process took longer than expected. It could be streamlined.Afsheen R.
I was double charged for the vehicle. I rented at 9 AM for a 24 hour period. I returned at 7 AM the following day (less than 24 hours) and was charged twice. Calls to the location have been unresponsiveCHANDRASEKHAR VA G.
I have used this location multiple times and will use it again. When I got into the vehicle, the gas gauge was below 3/4 of a tank. I thought about going inside to resolve but took a photo of the gauge. When I went to the gas station, I put in 2 gallons as in my most recent use that is what I did. I spent an additional $10 to get the gauge close to 3/4 of a tank. When I shared my experience with the attendant it became a negotiation. My moving with Ubox is a total disaster. Poor online system, have to call in and wait at least 30+ mins for customer service evey time. Try to change my deliver address many times but still no changes. I end up going to the store many times. The staff did not explain that a 10x15 is actually 2 units & I was mis-informed about a discount that was not given to me. On 1 of the units, the staff couldn't even open the door because it wasn't working properly. Asked staff to get it fixed before we use it. On the 5x10, the door stuck & my husband had to crawl under the door to open it, so it could shut properly. Then there was water in 2 different hallways from the leaky roof. Not a good situation at all & very disappointing, since this is one of the largest U-haul facilities near by. Also ramps are too small & inconvenient. When I initially got set up with this storage unit, I thought I was set up on auto-debit but was not. Got charged a late fee and was to be refunded the $15 late fee. It never happened, I spent a good month trying to connect with someone and never got any response. Storage Manager consistently attempted to up-sale the transaction. Repeatedly tried to enforce policies without proof. She added insurance and a padlock without my acknowledgment. When I questioned it, she stated it was policy in order to get the FREE month of storage but was unable to provide said proof. She was very rude. There is a lot of storage units to pick from much cheaper, However if I did not have billing issues it was clean and something I would have recommended. When I signed up and paid for my storage unit, the sales associate never told me I needed an access code or gave me an access card. Therefore, when we showed up at 9p with a truckload to put in the Unit, we were not able to get in! I had hired movers to help, so now have to pay them again to come a second time. This is inexcusable incompetence on the part of the sales associate and was not a good start to using your facility, not does it make me confident I chose the best facility.rhonda s. | First Impressions
I cleaned my unit out 2 days before my rent was due. I called the 24th and 25th to cancel my account. I was on hold for 30 minutes each time and no one ever answered. I then received a call from someone at UHaul saying that they noticed my unit was empty. They wanted to confirm that I had moved out and no longer needed the unit. I confirmed. I then received a late notice that I owe for the monthly rent PLUS a late fee. I am not paying this. My account needs to be resolved. The clerk at West McKinney location told me Plano location would have a 10 x 20 climate control space, when I arrived they were told no "they do not have a 10x 20 space so I had to take 2 10 x 10 spaces, therefore had to buy 2 locks instead of 1. The charges for 2 spaces were more than for 1 10 x 20 unit. They should have honored the price for a 10 x 20 unit. Originally the truck and trailer would have to be returned to the West McKinney location, very inconvenient, but after speaking another with attendant, Anna, said that "no" I do not have to West McKinney location. She was the most helpful and professional in all the attendants I was in contact during this 2 day ordeal. It was a nightmare during the West McKinney location and would never go back there. I came back to the facility after hours with my trailer that i rented to unload my stuff into my storage unit and neither the card or access code would allow me entry into the building. The lady who checked us out said they have been having issues with the alarm in the building but never mentioned not being able to open the door once office hours where over.
