My original pick up location was on Elm St., to be picked up on a Sunday. Then I received a text that the location was changed to Pacific Ave, which was closed on Sunday. Luckily I found the Cornell location and they had a truck for me. Confusion and disorganization on U-hauls online system, awful.

1) There was a requirement that emergency contacts be reached by phone before a truck could be rented... that requirement seemed to be only to poor (looking) people: specifically Mexicans from what I could tell. I wasn't asked to do this. I'm an upper class white woman and I look like it. That's some casual racism m right there. If it's for EVERYONE then do it for EVERYONE. Otherwise, quit picking on poor folks and immigrants. 2) It's shady that UHaul bills for the replacement costs of a bumper, for example, if there's been damage but doesn't actually repair/replace it. The truck I got was COVERED in little "x" marks from previous problems- and I had zero problems- but it appears to be a revenue stream, not an effort to repair/ maintain trucks. 3) An engine light kept coming on if I drove the truck more than 20 minutes (low tire pressure) but your roadside assistance was useless with information...

Devise a better method than calling someone as the emergency contact. My wife does not have her name on her voicemail and did not answer her phone. I eventually used a relative overseas with his name on his voicemail. Took almost a half hour just to rent a small trailer, with other customers waiting behind me.

I had a reservation email from a week ago, and I had even called before pickup and changed my pickup time 2 times a day or 2 beforehand. Upon pickup at the location, the girl said my reservation wasn’t in the system or in any other uhaul system??? Then she said well at least we have ONE of the size trucks you need. What if they didn’t have any? Then what. Also, she didn’t tell us how to obtain the dolly we paid for. We drove away thinking it was in the back of the truck but pulled over halfway to our destination to check, and guess what...it wasn’t there. We had to turn around and drive back to the store and pick one up ourselves. Do there was a few wasted miles we had to pay for. We just grabbed a dolly off the floor and walked out. No one cared. She also knew we were going to be returning the truck a few hours later after they were closed, and she did not explain the truck return procedure to us beforehand so we knew what to expect. So when we got there it was this huge confusing crazy time trying to find out from surrounding customers outside the locked building how we were supposed to return our truck. We had been moving heavy stuff all weekend. We were exhausted, dirty, tired, drained, and irritated. We didn’t know how to do it and we were also really frustrated with taking a million pictures of the truck and going through the process online. It was a ridiculous circus. Thanks for nothing uhaul.

Your questions are about the location I picked my trick up from. They needed to ask questions about the call center and worthless reservation. I should receive a refund for the extra millage. I reserved a reservation for a Forrest Grove pick only to get a message hours later to be told they did not have the truck and I would need to go to Hillsboro instead. I had a local rental ready but it was taken by the time I received your message. I would like partial refund to compensate for the extra milage and my time. Please respond back soon. Thanks Denny

We have been very impressed with the service and help from U Haul all the way from TN to OR. Although the 26 foot truck we rented was relatively new, the AC stopped working in the middle of the trip on a hot day, Several U Haul operators and U Haul Roadside Assistance were quick, friendly, and helpful to get us cool and back on the road fast. Hillsboro,U Haul and Storage staff bent over backwards to get our truck returned and worked hard to help us get the storage units we needed. When we had a major problem with the door malfunctioning on one of the units we rented, Hillsboro U Haul staff responded immediately with friendly professional help to get the problem solved. Hillsboro U Haul staff are an A #1 5 star crew!!! We will definitely always use and recommend U Haul for moving and storage!

Your mobile pickup procedure sucks. Ask for the license and other info before the person gets on site, and tell the place to leave the keys in the truck. It's kinda pointless to do this if I still have to go inside and wait in line.

I’m not sure when it started, but the whole “you can’t rent a car unless we can contact an emergency contact right this minute” thing is kinda dumb. The man in front of me canceled his reservation because they couldn’t get ahold of the one person he could use as an emergency contact. He was Hispanic and presumably new to the area, he specifically said he only knew one person’s phone number and that he hadn’t had a chance to get phones for anyone else in his family. Imagine moving here and not being able to rent a truck because you don’t know anybody. And imagine how humiliating it is to have someone tell you you can’t rent a truck just because your contact can’t get to the phone at the moment. What is the purpose? Just because they answer now doesn’t mean they’ll answer in case of an emergency, so you shouldn’t call it an emergency contact. The worker kept telling the man to just text the person and tell them to answer the phone. Like??? If they didn’t answer his phone call they aren’t gonna answer the text. My personal experience was just fine because luckily my dad had just got off work so he could answer the phone. Anyway, there needs to be an amendment to that rule, for the patrons sake and for your business.

The uhaul had a loose steering wheel, making it difficult and dangerous to steer. The uhaul AC could only blow from the windshield defroster vents, not the forward vents.

Not happy with Uhaul at all. Booked online. Got bigger truck then requested. When I picked it up cost did not match online. Location had to completely re-create my rental. Held me up 1 hour. Location did honor smaller truck rate and gave me discount for inconvenience. Location manager was very impersonal. Came across like I was inconveniencing him. Other staff was greatly lacking in customer service. Very harsh and impersonal. Will think twice before renting from uhaul online. This is the second time I have reserved online and both times was a complete disaster.

On Saturday when I went in to talk about where I need to drop off the truck all I got was it will tell you in the app, When I to drop off the truck it was 30 minutes away and 15 more miles which I should not have had to do because there was a Uhaul facility just 2 miles from where I moved. The app also charged more than the agreed amount when I set up the reservation. YOU need more staff at this location. There was only 2 people working the counter and the line was out the door.

After I drove the van to my apartment, I realised there was a dial pad lock on the back. Had to drive all the way back to the store to get it off. Not super fun when I get charged for the mileage and had to spend an extra hour driving around. The correct equipment was not prepared as well. The staff was kind in person though.

Understaffed but able to provide service eventually and helpful to get us out on the road. Helpful to allow us to grab our car hauler at a later date than expected. Tank had a quarter tank which is not ideal for someone renting a large truck. The only reason to understand this is in the case uhaul is trying to ensure no one steals (siphons) out gas from their trucks maybe at drop locations? Just an absolute pain in my terms for myself a renter and one that pushed the limits of good customer service. I know this issue must go back in the past rental history but something that would turn my business elsewhere as other companies ensure full tanks when renting.

Have more staff, we waited in line almost 30 minutes. It took another 30 minutes to be helped and we were assigned 3 trucks. The first truck did not have a functioning door, the second one had no keys, and through all of this the POS system would freeze whenever the "next" button was pressed. The truck we ended up getting had minor brake problems and a strange smell inside the cabin. Returning the truck after hours, there was no room in the receiving line, I was unsure where to park. Since I did not get fined for blocking an exit, this ended up ok. I also did not get a dolly we rented, but getting it refunded was thankfully very easy. Overall fairly satisfied, I will come back again if I need to move, but there is a lot of room for improvement with streamlining the process on both pickup and return, as well as the state of equipment.

Returning the truck was a little confusing- I pulled into the waiting area, an employee walked by and said somebody would get me checked in shortly. I waited about 10 minutes, went to the counter inside and an employee was sitting. She asked if she could help me, I told her I was returning a truck and then she came out. Not a big deal, but a bit more formal process might get people out more quickly.

I paid for a mattress cover and never received it. I picked up after hours using my phone and the process didn't let me note any damage not already marked on the truck. I don't want to pay for damage that i couldn't mark down (which was everywhere). The entrance and exit to get and drop off units is HORRIBLE. I have never seen a worse set up, I almost couldn't get out and I couldn't park in the drop off because it is so small and there were already SIX other vehicles there.

The location manager, and the written rental agreement, told me that damage to rented vehicles is not covered by personal auto insurance. Then I got into an accident that was totally not my fault. U-Haul's own insurance company, RepWest, told me that pickup trucks and vans (I rented a van) ARE covered. Your locations and your insurance company need to get on the same page!

Online reservation showed there were 4x7 trailers available in multiple locations near me When I arrived, the first location told me they have never stocked trailers, and sent me to the second location The second location had a long line, and only two of the three computers staffed on a very busy Saturday morning. I spent one hour waiting in line to be helped. Once i reached the front, I was told that this location has never carried the 4x7 trailer, and I would have to go to yet a third location to get that size. If a location does not carry a particular vehicle, why does the website refer me to that location?

Get more workers, having one person at the front desk and no people doing truck returns is about the stupidest thing I can imagine for a uhaul company. The staff, or the two I saw in the 4 times I was in there in 3 days were very helpful and kind. The problem is it takes 20 minutes to do one contract and you have 6 people in line and ONE person at the desk and no one returning trucks. So she is doing all that and having to help people set up storage units rentals also. Like I said the staff were so very kind and helpful and so very very very overwhelmed. Not because they can't do the task, but because they are ONE person doing 5 jobs. I will be using budget moving from now on. Again I do not want this review to negative impact the staff. They were doing above and beyond with no resources at all.

We picked up our rental at 3:30 pm only to receive a phone call three hours later to tell us that we were given the wrong truck! We had filled the truck up with gas, already loaded our belongings for our out of state move and paid for movers. We were already on a tight schedule,only to be told that we needed to bring the truck back and pick up a new one. We were given a discount and reimbursed for fuel, however, the manager really couldn’t care less about the error or our time.

The fuel level in the truck was completely wrong compared to what was on the paper. Before we took the truck we showed the attendant and took photos ourselves. When we returned the truck they tried charging over $100.00 extra. But with the proof, a nice gentleman was able to help. Double check everything before leaving! It also took a very long time to check in and to check out, over 40 mins each time.

The personnel at this location were very helpful and efficient. I have a complaint with corporate though. When it came time to drop our trailer off, we called the number listed on the rental agreement to get the address for the LOCAL return that we arranged online. The rep told us that we could not return locally, because they were full. For planning purposes, I do think that should have been told to us long before the day we were to return our trailer. We, instead, had to return the trailer 20 miles away in a busy city and in the opposite direction that we were traveling that day. It was an unexpected inconvenience on a day that was already long, tiring, and stressful. Who wants to have a full day of traveling and moving, only to have it made longer and more inconvenient by unexpected Uhaul decisions at the very end of the day? Not me... Also, we did complain about this on the phone to the rep, who said that there was nothing that she could do for us. There were no adjustments that could be made according to her. She did offer to have a manager return our call, but it's been almost a full day later now and we have heard nothing back.

We sold our home and rented a storage unit to move our belongings into, then rented a uhaul truck to do the job,. We got our moving supplies in the office. It all couldn't have been any easier.

Clean and secure you didn’t have a smaller unit are I would still be there. The Public Storage I’m now in seems dirty and is in a bad area.

Renting a U-Box at frst seemed intimidating to me. But Chyna and Tyler made it so easy and understanding. This staff is very helpful and professional. My next move will be with UHAUL.

The only issue was parking and driving to our unit. Not much room between the propane tank and the building.
