Not just at this location, but UHaul's computer system is touchy. EX: When we first rented our locker (before move-in day), the reservation had vanished when we arrived with goods the next day. The local locations were fine to work with. In fact, the people who picked up or dropped off the uboxes were fabulous, especially in East Peoria, IL. But oh my gosh, to even be able to talk to anyone on the phone from ubox, I had to freaking wait for an hour on hold! That's wrong! Then, when I'd try to freaking talk to someone on chat, I'd be waiting for such a long time that either I'd forget, or finally someone one get on, and before I could even reply to say that I was there, they'd end the chat. It was terrible. THEN! When I called to see what could be done about me being charged for a whole freaking month of ubox usage even though I only used the uboxes for FOUR days in the last month, the guy on the phone was such a jerk! He acted like I was mentally handicapped or something when he was telling me there's freaking nothing I can do about getting that month prorated. I was very upset at that interaction. The costumer support was just absolutely awful, and I will definitely be paying more and using a different company the next time I move simply because of that.Brittany B.

Until recently my experience with U-Haul has been favorable. But my recent interaction over a previously installed trailer hitch have made me vow to find alternatives-because it concerns a safety and liability issue. I had a hitch installed on my 2018 Chrysler 300 when it had 6000 miles on it. Today it has 20,000. I drove the car infrequently, but when I did I noticed a rattle while driving in the city. I did not consider that this was tied to the hitch installation, and because I was driving a fleet vehicle rather the 300 at the time, and the car was garaged, I was not concerned because I attributed the rattle to a manufacturing issue that would be covered by a factory warranty. I assumed it was a trunk bracket or something minor. Unfortunately, when I finally made reservation with Chrysler to investigate and repair I discover the issue was not with the car, but with U-Haul. It was with an improper hitch installation, where the installer did not reattach exhaust brackets on each side of the dual exhaust. Of course I learned from Chrysler that this has created vehicle warranty issues and safety issues since the hot exhaust, now improperly installed, is close to the fuel system. I did what would be expected and made an in person visit to the U-Haul store. A technician was kind enough to take a look, and confirmed that the installer failed to attach the two exhaust brackets because the hitch that was installed did not have â€œholesâ€ that would permit reattaching to the vehicle. He didn't know what to do, because he had no authority-however he promised to let the manager know. Which he did. A day later the manager called. This is where the problem begins. Because the installation was some time ago, the manager said that despite acknowledging the hitch being improperly installed it was no longer Uhauls responsibility, since I failed to protect myself by purchasing a warranty (apparently to safe-guard myself from their improperly performed installation). Now mind you, this isn't about a bolt working it's way out, or a hitch weld failing, this is about their installation professional deciding that Chrysler's factory safety engineers apparently decided to add brackets to secure a dangerously hot vehicle component that were unnecessaryâ€¦.with no mention of it. I asked if the safety implications bothered her, or the fact that it impacts my warranty. Her response was sorry. You didn't protect yourself (against our improper installation) by taking out the warranty. I asked if the potential liability troubled her and her response was that she was limited by what U-Haul permits her to do. In the meantime. I have an otherwise pristine vehicle left with a rattling exhaled, because it has two brackets that are unattached. A hitch I am afraid to use, even for a bike ride. An admission of their failure to install properly, w big â€œâ€"â€"- you.â€ And a service manager from Chrysler saying we can't cover the exhaust system under warranty because aftermarket modifications were improperly installed. Is used to often, but a 1-star rating can't possibly convey the depth of the problems, then and now, with this transaction. Please help. This isn't difficult. It only takes replacing the incorrect hitch with the correct one, and attaching the brackets to secure and return the vehicle to its safe and original condition. The problems identified with U-Haul in this review are accurate and unexaggerated. Also inexplicable from a brand protection perspective and a liability perspective. In the meantime if you have an unexplained rattledâ€¦.you might want to recheck your hitch installation.Jon G.

I purchased the rental spot online on Saturday, when I got to the location the associate was super helpful with explaining how to access the building during business hours and outside of business hours. A lock wasn't in my room so he told me to swing back down if one wasn't there. He was friendly and I didn't feel like I was an inconvenience to the associate. i called for a week,at least twice a day to make a appointment and no one ever answered, had to leave messages which i never received a call back to get a appointment to have u-haul hitch installed. i had to call u-haul head quarters to ask them how a person can get hold of the de pere u-haul store?? they said they would hook me up with the regional u-haul which they hooked me up with the wrong regional u-haul !!! they then said they will take care of my problem and contact de pere u-haul and they WILL call me,15 min. later i received a call from de pere u-haul. once i met kaleigh and watched her take care of e-mails, few phone calls customers thru the door, arriving semi's to be unloaded, rentals getting dropped off, rentals getting picked up ect. ect. while i waited for my hitch to be installed i listened to another customer come into store complaining NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE HERE----------you need much better communication with customers. kaleigh did a great job but she is only 1 person, you are lucky to have her!Bruce W.

I would not recommend U-Haul overall to my friends. I first reserved an enclosed trailer. I got a modify a day before pick-up that I need to pick up at different location at a different time and could only use it for half amount of time I needed. So I put in a second request in to use a cargo van. I got a call the morning of to say that none were available. I would be giving a bigger truck but the rates will be adjusted so I didn't encure more cost. That didn't happen, beside the rate being higher than the fan it cost me more in gas. The 2 people in the store were wonderful to work through my challenges with the last minute changes that were made to my reservation. I was frustrated that I was notified less than 24 hours that the truck I reserved was not available (10') and then when I arrived to lease the replacement (20') that one was also not available - they wanted me to take a 26' on a 400 mile trip that I only needed a 10' for. What was the most discouraging part was there was a 10' that was on the lot (for pick up 2 days after my reservation) and it wasn't available to me. I appreciate the 2 workers that finally did give me the 10' on the lot as a solution. Just another note - while the cab was clean - it did smell like someone had been smoking in there so I had to bring my air freshener for the trip.Pamela J.

Never bothered to show me the process for returning after hours. Turns out I have to download the app and create account just to return the truck. There is no direction about this. Lock box impossible to find. Called U-Haul and on hold for 30 minutes. I gave up. Locked keys in truck. Next day the rude idiot at the location calls me and tells me he only has 1 key for the truck. I drove 33.1 miles and had to put 9.8 gallons of gas in to fill the tank. When I asked the employees about whether or not they were sure if the tank was full when I picked up the truck neither one of them could give me answer and stared at me with a dumbfounded look. Neither one offered to help fix the situation and just looked at me as I walked out of the store. Extremely disappointed and I don't feel it's right that I have to pay to the fill the tank of previous users of the truck. The 26' truck JH 3288D has a set of newer front tires that are not properly balanced. Severe bounce to front end and hard to control at times. On return during business hours only one attendant on duty and she had customers waiting in line so unable to check truck in. Location greatly under staffed. Didn't think I would have to enter the access code twice at both keypads, but I figured it out eventually. The first is to check in and the 2nd is to open the door. We were told that we could not drop off the car hauler at this site since the manager got hurt at one time doing that and we were to schedule a different drop off location. We stopped in in person prior to needing the locker. We had a great experience in reserving the locker. When we came back on move in day, there was no record of our reservation and the gentleman seemed annoyed with US that YOUR system had lost that record. He did not seem familiar with how to correct it. It took a considerable amount of time to correct the error, get the truck and the employee seemed annoyed by that. We had believed we were set up for auto pay on the locker, but we were locked out the first time we tried to access the unit. We had to stop in again and get the late fee removed which also was a hassle. The unit is great, the building is clean - just lots of system issues that seem avoidable.steven k. | First Impressions

We have been in a three-year transition. There where times when I believed I lived at U-Haul. In so stressful a time, the staff was incredibly supportive and empathetic, something I didn't expect but SO appreciated. We didn't know there was a structural beam in our storage unit which takes up some well needed space. It would have been nice to know ahead of our move in, when we got there with our stuff we were taken off guard at first that there was that in our unit.Adam W. | Online Move In

We made a reservation for climate control storage 3 times before it actually showed up in your system. Behind the counter they seemed confused. We were told we could have a storage 10x20. We were not told it was on the 2nd floor until later in the process. We live in De Pere and want to use our local businesses. We did not get what we reserved. We got two 10x10's. All we had was furniture to store, no boxes. The poor movers had a very difficult time moving the furniture up the elevator and thru the storage area. You put us way down the hall in the last lane in the back of the building. This was a move into U-haul storage that should have taken less than an hour but it took 3 hours. It was ridiculous. Everyone was exhausted. We understand storage is big business but we did not get what we expected.Thomas S. | First Impressions
