My request from Uhaul was a rental on the 30th to move out of my apartment and a rental on the 8th to move into my house which was closing. On the morning of the 30th I was informed less than 2 hours from my rental time that I would not have access to the truck I had booked nearly a month in advance. The representative on the phone was sincerely apologetic; however, outside of a potential rental later offered no solution to me outside of a $50 credit. This made life quite difficult for me and with no advanced warning I had no time to plan an alternate solution. I went in later that day to return some unused boxes, while I was there I (very politely and understandingly) inquired on the status on my rental on the 8th. I simply wanted to ask about how certain my rental was as I couldn't have what happened on the 30th repeat itself on the 8th. The representative was quite defensive and not very friendly to my inquiry. I understand customer service and I understand that circumstances are out of the employees hands; however, treating a client who is simply asking a question and wanting reassurance for their future rental is controllable. I consider myself a very understanding person, but the people skills displayed wasn't overly positive and the fact that I was given to little time to make plans for my first rental was underwhelming. The rental on the 8th was good, the rep at the store that day was attentive and pleasant. I don't believe I'll be using Uhaul in the future and will likely seek other options. As a piece of constructive criticism, I might recommend either having an emergency truck to offer clients in situations like I'd experienced on the 30th or at least a 24 hour notice so they make alternate plans. I understand some circumstances can't be foreseen, but they CAN be planned for, and this is where this location/Uhaul had let me down.JESSE K.

Well this was quite possibly the worst experience I have ever had. I have never used uhaul before and I can promise you I will never use uhaul again. I booked a 26 foot truck two weeks in advance from my move. Three days before my move uhaul called to cancel. Uhaul provided me with a 10 foot truck for Saturday, so I had to find another truck to help. Uhaul did not explain how payment works and what I would be paying for, I specifically asked the woman that called me to cancel my truck how much I would be paying, she told me $19.99, not until I was picking up the truck did I learn I was paying for mileage. When I returned the truck I then learned I would also being paying for fuel. I have used moving companies in the past and I absolutely will be using moving companies in the future. I will never use uhaul again, the staff on the phone gave me false information, the staff at the location were rude and didn't give me all the information I needed as well, and I will never be back nor will I ever recommend uhaul or say a good thing about uhaul. There was nothing good about this experience. I'm surprised this business is still afloat with how it operates. Train your employees to give your customers the proper information for starters. The price of the trucks are reasonable, but the mileage rates are astronomical!! That cost more than it did me to refuel the tank. I understand that there are costs associated with "wear and tear", but I only traveled like 100 kms, not 1000! I can't imagine what that bill looks like if I had to take one off island.Laura L.

Service was great and fast. The staff at this location are wonderful. The van I rented was great. My issue is with the hidden costs and the after-hours self-return process is far too clunky. To the point that it appears deliberately difficult to use to just make you give up and pay the $20 fee. This process could easily be fully automated. And there's no reason for a $20 fee for check-in. It would take staff 2 minutes. As for hidden fees: the van is advertised at 19.95, but it's actually closer to $50. I booked for three days and paid $144. I don't mind paying for good service and products, which U-Haul has. But be upfront about how much it will actually cost.Douglas D.

15 hours prior to my pickup time I was informed that the 10' truck I had requested was unavailable. Instead, uhaul was going to be providing me with a 26' truck which I had neither the ability to drive, nor would it fit in my loading OR unloading area. If not for the amazing staff in Charlottetown I would have been completely out of luck. They were able to provide me with a 15' truck, which was still bigger than needed, but out of sheer luck that a random customer had left it in the wrong location. I can understand being moved up one size of truck. I can understand not having the truck I request if I request it the day before. But I requested a 10' truck A MONTH before I needed it since I knew how busy this weekend is. Assigning me a 26' truck less than a day before my pickup time is completely unacceptable and shows no respect for me as a customer. I wish I could say this was a first time occurrence, and I doubt it will be the last.DANIEL S.

Take accurate mileage. I took a picture of the mileage at pickup which was 65070.6 and upon return it was 65080.7 total of 10.1 miles. The receipt shows 65070.0 and 65080.7 so I was charged 1.43 per mile. 1.43 x 10.10 is 14.44 +.17 tax and 1.43 x 10.70 is 15.30 +.18 tax. My point is if you want to charge for the 10s of a mile on the back end make sure you put it on the front end. I paid for 1/2 a mile extra. I believe in fair is fair.GLENN S.

- Short dark-haired lady at the U-Haul site was a little testy during our initial contact a week ago as she was attempting to wait on four clients at the same time (and phone was ringing). However, the two young fellas I delt with when I put my stuff in the storage unit were very helpful and courteous. Will probably be storing stuff for two months. Staff were wonderful. And the location was fine. It's U-Haul as a company I have issues with. When I booked, I was quoted half of what I actually ended up paying. There are so many ridiculous hidden fees. I didn't ask for a trolley but it was in the cargo area and was in the way. I couldn't take the trolley out because it charges you if you move it. You have to pay $25 if you don't sweep? What is that about?? The after-hours drop off experience was terrible. The website was working poorly and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if U-Haul made it bad to navigate so you give up and pay the $20 service fee.Douglas D.

Truck had a good few dents which I photographed before leaving the rental site to ensure they knew it wasn't me. Truck itself was sluggish to drive and steering very loose. Did the job but you could tell it was a heavily used rental truck.ANTHONY G.

The application has an issue, for Canadian residence the licence number is located on the back of the drivers licence not the back. Also the application is broken in the way that the verification phone number is buggy and wouldn't let me add a phone number i put previously I needed 4 verification numbers. Caused issuesRodney D.

The staff at 18 capital drive, Charlottetown, PE was very helpful and took care of me after a complete failure of booking online and ALSO calling a few hours before arrival to confirm my reservation. The employee I spoke with on the phone (some where in the USA) said everything was good for my reservation, however once I arrived I actually had no unit that I reserved. Not sure how that blunder happened but it was a huge mistake on uhauls part. Fortunately the staff took care of me.Casey C. | First Impressions
I booked a 5x10 room online that was advertised for a 1- 2 bedroom house up to 1200. My house is 2 bdrm and 950sq ft and there was no chance it would fit. I ended up upgrading last minute to a 10x10 after staff agreed the 5x10 wouldn't suit and denied that this room is advertised to hold that amount even after I was able to show them the online posting. The paper pamphlet I was given at check in stated at 10x10 room was $134, but I later found myself charged for $169. Worst of all, it still didn't fit the things from my house. I've had to store things at 2 other friends and family locations. I felt like uhaul bait and switched me at least twice. When I checked online for access hours I found access hours to be 5am to 10pm. While I was moving things into my unit I was told they close at 8 and I had to leave. When I asked about the 10pm close I was told that only applies to outdoor units and my indoor unit closes at 8. Why was I given an access code for the building if it closes and I'm not allowed in again? This issue caused me to take a 1/2 full cargo truck back to my house 30 km away, and make a second trip in the following day.. doubling my milage and my expense. Essentially every important advertised feature of the unit was unclear or downright misleading. After spending $600 on boxes, a truck and a room I'm thoroughly disappointed and will be leaving a particularly harsh review on Google as soon as I'm able to get the chance to do so. My issue is not with your hours, policy, or prices.. my issue is that none of these things were clear when booking and in a crunch at moving time I had NO choice but to use your services and pay whatever you asked, and that felt awful. I would not recommend uhaul to anyone and will be doing research into other options for my next move.Chantelle S. | Online Move In

Everything was fine for the first 5 years but since the Covid19 crisis I lost my job and fell behind in my payments and that's when all my good thoughts about U-Haul went out the window. My storage unit contents were taken and sold along with personal stuff that can't be replaced. The staff at the Charlottetown facility we're helping me but the aholes Kyle Rutherford out of the Denver office had no sympathy to my plight. I found the staff were very helpful in determining an ideal size of storage locker for my needs last July. The locker I choses was clean and secure. I appreciated their experience in directing my choices for packing materials and boxes.
